  1. Very True. Not worth it to try and figure out on them with 4 wnds. I just didnt know if they could come back like 3 times. I dont have my cards in front of me to look up the exact wording of TLB though. As far as the Shield Bearer goes, as long as it doesnt have a soulbound upgrade, it will come back. It does not say anything about removing conditions when it comes back though so it would still have the damage decay thing per turn from TLB.

  2. I havent gotten to try out TLB yet but your post gets me excited to get it on the table. Thanks for the write up. I want to try and take an all living crew to take the most advantage of it and give it a shot. It seems like a lot of fun. I will keep rafkin in mind. Now the question is how will TLB interact with the shield bearers? Since they "die" as a living unit but then come back as spirits. This seems confusing.

  3. Mindless Zombies are always useful with Nicodem. The upgrade Maniacal laugh turns corpse markers into MZ's then once they die from summoning off them, or getting killed,  you get extra card draw!

The best scheme runners right now are the Necro punks. You really cant go wrong with them. They are one of the few units that can single handedly do claim jump on their own. Place a marker, leap 6 inches away, place a marker. Just need a 7(?) or higher I think for the leap.

The Emissary is good in any Ressur crew. It is arguably one of the best Emissaries in the game. They lay down shards which summon an MZ at the end of the turn for some nice activation control. The shards block LOS really well against other crews. It also has a nice min damage 3 attack.

Your real investment will be in your summons. Nicodem needs a large hiring pool to be most effective. You have a solid start on the Draugr. I think they need an 11 of crows to summon. You may want to look into Shikome, Belles or Dead Doxies, for luring and utility. Shikomes hit hard and well. Other than that it may be good to look at a few solid hiring options as well. The university of Transmortis set isnt bad. The Valedictorian is a heavy hitting henchman who is quite mobile. It then comes with the Student of Viscera, which is the next best to summon. The other two are decent summons, they work best against specific crews though. I am drawing blanks off the top of my head as it is still early but Im sure other users can help out.

  4. I take the Necro punks for doing general Scheme running. Particularly for Claim Jump, which I take pretty often. Its so easy for them to do! When I get leave your mark in the pool I use Crooligans. From the Shadows lets them deploy on the opponents side of the board and Leave your Mark only needs 1 token to score from.

Yeah, I'm not super impressed with that model either. I think for me its the pose. I'm not sure why shes kneeling? it looks strange and having read the story adventure she is from (Night in Rottenburg), it doesn't fit my mental image of her at all. I may have to look for another option to mod into her instead.

I havent read the Story adventure at all but I think she is kneeling because of her action grasping hands. She kneels down to control hands to come up from the ground or something like that.

  6. So what exactly is the Crossroads Seven? It looks like there is a model for each faction. Are the others mercenaries at least for them to work together? Does the box set include anything else? I remember the Transmortis Set had some sort of story encounter. Does this have that sort of thing as well? After looking at the generalist upgrade decks do I need to get both the first and second set? I have Wave 1 and 2 cards for my given factions so im guessing that has similarities to general upgrades deck one? Any recommendations on what goes on with those decks?

Just throwing this out there... there is a player in Rochester still holding my alt Guild Sergeant from the black friday sale if you are interested in buying that instead :)

Oooooooo I will keep that in mind here after my birthday in late January if it is still around. How much would you willing to part with it?

  8. Huh interesting. All this information on Vassal is good to know. I don't know if I will give it a go just yet as I have a ton of painting to do right now but Ill certainly keep all this in mind. As for some of my old models I think I will keep my old Guild Guard Captain and use him as the Guild Sergeant, then Ill just pick up Captain Dashel in a single online if he is available.

Are there any new tokens and markers needed for the game or is there a list to see what markers I need? I am going to have a friend with a wood dye cutter help me out and make some custom ones soon.

  9. Can the old Guild Guard Captain be used as Captain Dashel for new and improved Lucius box set? Or are those now two different models? I have the old metal models right now.

Do you think C. Hoffman is too complicated to use for demos? I have quite a few of my old models painted up and I would be able to demo a bit quicker using my C Hoffman crew. Maybe I can just use a model or two to show off duels and mild interactions of the crew together.

Is VASSAL hard to set up? Ive never used it. It seems interesting. Can I 1v1 myself on it to get a feel for how it works?

  10. @Lalochezia @Ludvig @7thSquirrel and everyone else Thanks for the warm welcome and information! I have quite a bit of painting to do so that I can get a couple simple crews ready for demos. Hopefully I can be a henchman here in Winona or work with the henchman in Lacrosse, WI. I know I will have a ton more random questions so I will post them here if there is no specific forum section for them like rules and such

Hello, I recommend you check out "Twin Cities Beach - Minnesota Malifaux" Facebook group, beyond holding the TC players we have representatives from at least Rochester, St Cloud,  Des Moines, and La Crosse as well. It is also the main communication point for events in the TC area (several are already posted if you're are interested). The others from the other cities often share their events here too to try and encourage cross pollination between gaming groups.

Wow awesome! Thank you I will get on that for sure. I checked the main Henchman page on the website and didn't see anything for southern MN, Rochester, or Lacrosse. Maybe it needs an update for the listings? Anyways Ill get in contact with someone as Lacrosse isn't too far. I work in Rochester but with the hour commute I doubt I would have time to play there and get home at a decent hour.

Myth, The black blood shaman combo is that bad.

Wow that really is a strong interaction. I wasn't familiar with the BBS or the Illuminated as I do not play Neverborn and I am back from a long break. I had to look up what you were talking about. I don't think the problem lies in the BBS but in the Illuminated. The BBS' action is very strong with the correct positioning of your targeted model and your strategy, but its quite strong but not overpowered, even with the crow trigger. But that aside I think the problem is in the Illuminated's healing ability. A guaranteed 2 and possible max of 5 every turn is just nuts for any model. On top of that they are models that want to get into fights because of their very strong fighting abilities and interactions with their crew (brilliance and whatnot). I think what it will come down to is the opponents ability to recognize the strong target and focus on taking out either the Illuminated or the BBS in one turn. The BBS has 8 wounds, which is decent, but does not have a great DF or really any other defensive abilities when attacked from range. That is certainly it's biggest weakness. I can see why you say this has destroyed groups though, especially with new players, or players who don't have a wide variety of models, or "power" players who just want to win. Right now I cannot say otherwise as I do not have experience. I am just trying to outline what I think from a different perspective as I am getting back into the hobby and community.

    They are not online, yet...

Access is via download per pdf (so you can print them out) or Wargame Vault (soon)

Oh I see. I feel dumb now. So on Wargame Vault these are for the high quality prints that are on the nice cardstock Wyrd usually uses. I can just print off all the old errata from the FAQ Errata page on the main site.

Core book has base rules and models. Crossroads has more models redesigned from m 1.5. Shifting loyalties has a campaign system and brand new models that didn't exist in m 1.5. Ripples has new models. All of them have fluff. There is an errata online which changes a few cards (Metal gamin and Leveticus to name a few) as well as clarifiying base rules like elevation. No reprinted books as far as I know.

Avatars are now proxy models for emmissaries. They can also be used in campaign play but were to difficult to balance so they ended up becoming the emmissaries.

The generalist upgrade decks give you all generic upgrades for all factions, wave 1 is base + crossroads, wave 2 are the later ones. The campaign deck is solely for campaign play where you can get a crapton of upgrade cards granting you new abilities as well as avatar upgrades, they're not allowed in normal games. Strategies and schemes decks are just for ease of noting and keeping track of schemes.

The emmissaries are the compromise avatars turned into. Thematically they are effigies evolved. Mechanically they have a base statline and gain special abilities depending on which master they crew is lead by (through an upgrade).

Henchmen are a lot more common than they used to be so there are quite a few solo ones floating about. Queeg is a sadist from the Guild, he mind controls people by breaking their psyche down or something similar. He plays as a buffer/debuffer bascially.

Glad to have you return to the community!

Dang so my Avatars are kinda useless now aren't they, other than looking cool :( Oh well I still like the models I have painted up at least for my collection.  Is the campaign made for single player or multiple people? I know nothing about it so right off the bat it is a little confusing. It seems like a lot to learn and I feel like I have a ton of catching up to do.

I will certainly be picking up the generic upgrades 1 & 2 now as well as the Strats and Schemes Deck.

Can the Effigies and the Emissaries be used in the same game or is the "upgrade" you mentioned just for fluff purposes?

Thanks for the quick reply and help! I really appreciate it.

  15. How do I find errata cards on The Wargame Vault? Like past errata and everything. I want to make sure all my models and cards are completely up to date but I find the site a bit confusing. Is it just the cards themselves listed for $.50? Is there a specified section with errata-ed cards? I have a lot of catching up to do!
