Just had my second game with Spiritwalker - and I’m still convinced that he is broken as ****.

While he's very good, there are plenty of other masters that are also bonkers good. I'm curious - please try him without any Komainu and tell me what you think. I really think the problem is Empty Vessel being too good in combination with his Reliquary. Even as you said in the BatRep (if it's the one I'm thinking of), your opponent killed one of your Komainu early and that made you feel some pressure. If he had killed both Komainu or you hadn't brought any at all, how would it have felt? I'm sure he's still good, but without Empty Vessel and Armor 2 (maybe Terrifying and Regen2 in Ressurs), I don't think he'd be seen as such a big issue.

The part you're quoting there is about Desperate Plot.

You only attach an upgrade if you remove a marker. See text at the top of the upgrade that says it can only be attached if you remove a scrap marker.

So thats all that was referencing. It wasn't about RRR.

    Ah - gotcha.

It still counts as removing for the upgrade (just as it would for Blasphamous Ritual, etc.), but it doesn't actually remove anything (so RRR can't work). But yes, RRR is quite the annoying ability with a number of weird interactions and difficult readings. I love it and hate at the same time :)

(I just play that RAI that you replaced the 'cost' of removing the marker with 2 damage to curator,  even if that doesn't fully make sense RAW).

I thought this was already sussed out in another thread. A number of us agreed that the 'it instead suffers...' means instead of removing anything, it suffers damage. So nothing is removed to be replaced by RRR.

For example when Yan Lo 2 does a crow trigger on last wishes after Manos dies, Manos' card would be gone so he wouldn't be a friendly Ancestor anymore because his card is gone.

I don't think that's quite the same as it specifies 'friendly Retainer hired this game'. Being alive or dead doesn't matter at all for the trigger. Just that it was Hired during the Hiring phase. Pretty sure that's why it was written that way.

  5. I still think the main reason people are salty about Yan2 is the Komainu with easy access to upgrades and Empty Vessel is just bonkers. Mv7 with + flips and Armor 2 and decent stats as well as extra actions thanks to Yan2. Add in GST in Ressers for Regen+2 and Terror11 and whatever Ancestor upgrade you give him -that's a lot on a cheap model.

They've always been a decent choice, but now with Yan2 needing an Anchor, they really are the best choice and can really make him hard to face. Take Yan2 with just Ashigaru and Gokudo and no Komainu and tell me he's still as nasty to face. Heck, even just remove the +2Mv and that would tone them down quite a bit (maybe not enough).

  6. I feel like White Rabbit Co. loses a lot out of Keyword. Sybelle might be a better choice to try, even if she's more expensive. She is more capable by herself while still offering something to any crew. If you mean both, then it might work, but that's a lot of points. I don't know Daw well enough to know if it would be worth it.

One thing I'd worry about is that it so much durdle.

I wonder how it'll hold up against aggression?

I think McM2 works best in Corner deployments. That gives you the time and distance to durdle like this. Wedge or even Flank could make this a risky setup, especially staying bunched up at the end of the turn if you're facing any blasty crews. Or one fast in tour face model could throw a wrench in it all. But still a good practice to have an idea of what you want.

I did just have a game were I couldn't get that darn 5C all game for the Curator....

  8. I feel like a good deal of the 'feels bad' from Yan Lo actually comes from Komainu's Empty Vessel. A move 7, Armor 2, HtK, TtH that has a positive to all Duels is a bit much. It gives Yan great mobility and a strong defense (as one of the counter seems to be to kill the minion with his reliquary). It's a lot on a 6ss model that can also get an unpgrade for Terrifying and Regen+2. And you can take two... If the Komainu was a bit easier to actually kill, I don't think people would be yelling quite as much about Yan2. He'd still be strong, but there would be some counter and he wouldn't feel invincible.

The Bonus on Yan2's upgrade should probably limit the action a bit more (general action or maybe make it so it has to target the model with the Reliquary - so probably an Obey for a move/attack/interact on the Komainu).

For Plastic Surgery, Rogue Necromancy attack is the best IMO. But yeah it's another attack in case Necro isn't available!

By far. I have trouble ever using it for anything else. Well, first turn maybe Flasks to help spread the poison.

Makes extra corpses and then can get supercharged as a spare beater.

How are you super charging it with McM2? It can't get upgrades or take plastic surgery anymore. What do you do?

You can grab it's attack to give elsewhere and a 2" min 3 attack isn't bad. Rancid Smell might have some uses too on occasion.

Auras can affect multiple models, life leach being a prime example. In this case, the models being affected by the aura are the enemy model damaged by the pit trap, and the friendly model taking the attack. So no matter how many vatagi huntsman try to use Set Up The Kill, they only need to discard 1 card. If they do, no enemy model gets to attack them. If they don't, a different enemy model for every Set Up The Kill used will be able to attack them.

I'm not so sure I agree. The friendly model does not have to be in the Aura at all. It just says a Friendly Apex model (it doesn't say within A8)- it could be Cooper 14" away. He's not affected by the Aura as he's not in it. The Enemy model is being affected by the Aura, but I'm not so sure the Friendly is. It's not quite the same as Life Leech as it isn't referring to the Vatagi Huntsman but any Apex and it doesn't say they have to be in the Aura to take the shot.

It is just ambiguous enough that I'm not sure though.... If it said 'a friendly Apex model within A8', then it would be more clear. But is seems to be any Apex model even if they are outside the Aura's range as written.

  12. OK - I finally got some pics up on OneDrive

    Warcradle Augusta Set stuff

Here are a couple for those that don't want to go elsewhere:

The pics in the folder show what I bought in a couple (all but the intact warehouse) so you can see. Then I set up a table as I normally would and left off the intact Factory and some of the tracks and rail cars as it was too much. I added some scatter terrain and painted minis so you can better see scale. I'm going to try and play a game on this one soon and see how it goes. Overall I like the look and think it will be fun to play on.

I did make some minor changes to the train station deck. The piece with the roof had it attached, so while it looks good, it was going to be a pain to move models under and actually play on. So I sawed off the supports (I didn't think about it until after of course) and uses some of one of the trash can pieces to create feet for it instead. Some heavy washers underneath help it stay upright. This way I can move it off like a roof and better get to the deck for game play.

How is the scale? Aren't they a tad bit smaller than Mx?

Not noticeably so. I'll get some pics tonight with some models. The doors and such are pretty good scale wise. Warcradle Scenics seems to bounce between 28-32mm scales. The 28 might technically be a bit small, but I find the 32 a bit big sometimes. For me a bigger issues are playability and ease of use.

This set has some pieces that are a bit bigger than I usually like, but still some good stuff. I'm going to play a bit and see how to best use it all. As with all MDF terrain, it can be a bit tricky assembling, but I like WS as their stuff has enough color and texture (usually) that I don't need to paint anything. And I do like putting stuff together.

  14. Found this video review of the Augusta terrain set from Warcradle Scenics. Far better than anything I can do.

Tabletop Skirmish Games has unboxed and built their Augusta Terrain Set here:  https://youtu.be/Q5IhHc_e-PY

I bought several of these - everything except the intact Warehouse as I thought it was too big to be good for Malifaux. I love the train station and while the tracks are a bit fiddly, they look pretty good. Tip: while assembling the wheels for the train cars, have some completed tracks on hand so you can space out the wheels so they sit on the tracks properly. I did not and had to go back and do some cutting on the inner edges of the wheels to make it fit better.

There are some big pieces and I normally don't like those for Malifaux. The train station and water tower are fine, but the Factory and Demolished Factory are pretty big. I knew the Warehouse pieces were big, but the Factory pieces aren't much smaller. I probably wouldn't have purchased the intact Factory if I had realized how big. The Demolished one can at least still use the interior more easily in play. The trains are big too, but I kind of expected that.

I actually liked the demolished Warehouse a lot more than I thought I would. It is big, but if treated more like two pieces of terrain works well and feels like it will be easier to play on. I almost didn't buy it, but am glad I did. It is very fragile though and there was one piece that I couldn't quite figure out until I looked very closely at the pictures.

You don't need the whole set for a full table. The buildings are simply too big on a 3x3 imo. However, a couple make a good addition to a factory/trainyard theme. I've got a table set up and will take some pics tonight. My biggest gripe is that there isn't as much scatter terrain with these buildings as the Mythos Set came with and that's a bummer. There are some with the Train Station, but not as much as I'd like overall. And to save costs/weight, they didn't do baseplates for the Factory models. This is OK, but can make them a bit more fragile. I really wish they had done a simple baseplate to increase sturdiness. I took some smaller scraps and used them to brace the corners a bit more.

2.) Use her to artiellery fire from a pyre marker, this will get you one burning per actions and one burning, which she can use to get a + flip for the next action. This can give her (in theoreitical ideal circumstances, which happen regular enough for me though) - 3 plus flips min 3 attacks at range, a bonus action (Grave Spirits touch is actually great on reva 1!) and 4 Shielded. This can actually make her a tank in a clutch with her 2" engagement.

How are you getting Shielded +4? Spirits in the Flame is Once per Activation. Or am I missing something in this setup?

P.S. can anyone explain what's going on with the White Rabbit Co. stand? Did the sculptor just stop half-way?

I was wondering the same thing! It does not look great. And are those the gremlin's feet? He's ridiculously tall if so.

Curious to see it in person.

Well i don't say that most people do but it is a lot more prevalent than it used to be and much more accessible.
Which is why i think more ppl are backing stl kickstarter than physical stuff. Also you only have to print what you need and can store the rest digitally without taking up physical space. I love printing nice detailed stuff, physically detailed which mdf somewhat struggles with but is a fine compromise between cost and detail.

Oh sure enough. Printers are at least within reach of many people now. If I had the spare money and time to learn all the ins and outs, I'd likely dive in. Probably will one day. I've just not been super impressed with a lot of prints I've bought so far. Not that their bad, but as you say, there are pros and cons to either.

I also vastly prefer terrain that is pre-painted. I have enough minis to try and paint without adding to my pile, but if you love painting then that's not as important. I do like some assembly, as that is one of the parts of the hobby I like (though some MDF terrain can be a PITA). That's why this KS seems good to me. Pre-painted (of a sort), with a bit of texture, some assembly, but not too much, and ready to play very quickly. Much better than the paper terrain, which I have also tried with no real success. I really hope the company keeps producing as so far it seems like a great product. Surprised more 40K players didn't latch on to some of the sets (they seem to be targeting them).

As soon as I get the new sets I'll post some more photos and info. They are selling some of the first run on their website I believe.

Well with STLs i can create as much of it as i like. While with getting a physical product i have just that.
Also STL ks often contain a lot more different stuff because there is no cost involved in the physical manufacture which can be translated into more time for designers.

Sure, but that requires a printer, hours to print, cleaning, prepping and painting. Not everyone has a printer or wants to spend that much time getting terrain ready. I realize some do, but it still seems easier for most gamers to use ready to play (or at least easy to assemble) terrain.

I get it though - I enjoy putting things together and I've made several 3d printed game aids, but for terrain it just seems easier to assemble and play. I'm not much of a painter though. I imagine if I did have a 3d printer I'd end up with large digital pile of shame anyway ;)
