  1. I mean the issue is hobby gaming is a niche market, and in that niche market no one wants to assume the risk. Read about the issues that happened with Wingspan. I mean a publisher is constantly juggling the issue that underordering from their manufacturer is as bad or worse than overordering. Over order and not only is a large amount of your capital tied up in product that isn’t moving, it actually costs you even more money because you have to pay to store and protect that unsold product. Under order and you create image issues and scarcity problems and it can take a decent chunk of time to submit the order and get it fulfilled, and you then have no idea if the demand will still be there once you get the reprint. And even experts get that wrong.

Stonemeier Games Wingspan is one of the hottest games this year, and when they asked multiple experts in the gaming field how many units to print they got very conservative estimates, and demand VASTLY outstripped even what the experts estimated. And that created all sorts of problems.

I mean it’s one reason Kickstarter is so popular for the board game market because you get a really good estimate on what the demand for your product is going to be upfront.

I’m not defending Wyrd and saying none of it is their fault, but the issue is very complex and not as simple as it is X company/distributor/manufacter’s fault. And then couple all that with all the uncertainty in trade tensions across the world at present.

  2. Rules wise they are sort of necessary for Seamus I feel. The entire reason to bring them, in my opinion, is they are significant and cheap, and the only real action of relevance is Proper Murder Mystery. It gives them a pretty good area where even guarded scheme markers aren’t safe. And they can create corpse markers as a byproduct or intentional for Bete to jump out of, or Seamus to Celebrate with.

Red Chapel doesn’t score schemes well but they are ok at denial, which is what the Dandies are good for.

  3. I liked the fluff. It’s surprisingly better written then the recent Wyrd fluff, and it explained in a little more detail what was going on in earlier Wyrd Stories, like what was going on when Seamus went to Kythera, why Lilith looks human and not nephilistic, a little more detail on exactly what the Tyrants were, what Plague’s goals were in trying to get the Serpent ring from Kirai in Rising Powers, what the link between the ring and the Red Cage was... etc.

I only noticed one glaring editing error and it was near the end. I hadn’t really been planning on buying the book, but I felt it was worth the purchase for a physical copy of the rules plus a little more clear timeline. Would recommend.

  4. Gonna have to agree on Nurses. Very good if you have one or two models that are regularly going to want focus. And tools for the Job is a great ability. Especially defensively. On the final action of a models activation you can freely cheat your highest card to either have them miss or mitigate the hit and then activate the nurse and get it back.

I had a game against Raspy where he recycled the red joker 3 or 4 times because of that ability.

Ill admit I was skeptical about bringing a Nurse out of keyword but she’s worth it. Especially if you think you’re going up against conditions as well. I had her take burning off 4 models in one turn against Mei Feng, so she definitely has her uses.

  5. My point is you focus, pass the terror check and then use the focus to hit and in general Cause as much or more dmg with 1 hit then you would taking two swings. Not to use the focus to pass the check. Then you don’t need to make 2 terror checks to attack twice on the same model.

  6. I just find it interesting people’s reaction to Terror. It’s basically the old irresistible rule from 1e which was just annoying but nothing game shaking. And in a world where focus is often free, and lasts across turns... I dunno I think Terror is over rated.

  7. So if the program is limited to 1 year, is that 1 calendar year, or 1 year from the release of the product in question?

If the former does that mean there will be an aggressive push to release all the content as rapidly as possible? For example it doesn’t do much good for someone if High Society gets released, say, August 2020 if the special order program then ends the next month if they want to get ahold of the Dandies and not Bete and the Doxies.
