  1. So... when you say "god" do you mean me? Or did Khorne just gain a follower? Somehow, I hope it's me.
  2. Ok, not a Wyrd mini, but here's a Brass Scorpion that I did for a commission a little while ago. I really enjoyed doing all kinds of crazy freehand and filling those panels. Filling them with grotesque images that would please Khorne was really quite a bit of fun, and worked well with the theme that the mini already has going for it. Anyway, here he is, with a slew of detail shots. Also, I've posted him up on CMON for anyone who cares to vote.
  3. This is a miniature from Avatars of War that we used in an Iron Kingdoms campaign as a bogrin who has been exposed to a lot of Chimera Blight. Well, I don't know that he needs more introduction than that, so here he is:
  4. Hm... that looks like a taste issue. Also, I haven't found it to be true across the board- (compare Alt. Lady Justice, Pandora, Zoraida, Ramos, and Sonnia against the originals). The lines are all as crisp, and the overall look to the minis are either as dirty or as clean as the originals. I do think that they've moved more towards dramatic combat poses. Sonnia and Ramos show this one off pretty well- both are in the middle of an action, rather than between actions. But all of this is off topic. On topic: I have felt for a long time that ease of assembly wasn't much of a consideration for the folks at Wyrd. When their line didn't have a game, their clients were mostly veteran modelers who don't blink an eye at pinning Viktoria's hands. Overall, I think they might be trying to make their minis a little easier to cast or assemble, but I think the form-over-function philosophy still runs pretty deep. Especially on LE minis and big Avatar minis that will be centerpieces. These are going to be centerpieces, and I think that they're more concerned with making big dramatic minis that they sacrifice a lot of ease.
  5. For those of you who follow my posts or blog, you'll know about the geek wedding cake toppers that I make. You'll also know that most of them heavily feature zombies and couples fighting off the horde. Well, it has been a while since I've had some to post up here, so here are quite a few different couples: This first one wanted to be the zombies themselves- so we have something a little different going on here. This set had a few specific ideas in mind- especially the smirk on the groom, and matching the weapon to the brides own guitar. These next two were similar in some ways, but the choice of weapons were drastically different. I'm honestly wondering if I'd prefer the shotgun over the M-4 assault rifle myself. Also, it probably is easier to fight off the horde in ABUs rather than a tux. Of course, it is hard not to think that the ideal weapon choice was discovered by this groom.
  6. This is a mini that I painted as a role playing character for a client. The character is a half elven gunslinger (Pathfinder) which is why the colors are far from standard (especially the streak in his hair). When I was painting him, I realized just how much Shae's face looks like David Bowie. I really hope the pictures have captured that.
  7. Well, Malifaux sometimes touts itself as a game where nothing can't be solved best by sending a few undead hookers at it. And here to prove this once and for all is Seamus.
  8. I finished my Movie Marines project recently with the last two entries. First off, I needed a rhino to finish off the lot of them. I converted this rhino quite some time ago, but I always had a sort of block when it came to painting it up. Eventually, I realized that it was the static boxiness of the rhino mini- no matter how much you convert and add, it is tough to make it dynamic. In order to remedy this, I decided to add a base. This mini is mounted on an old CD-ROM that we never care to see again. Second, I threw together the sergeant mini- in part because I've done lots of this kind of freehand on projects for commissions, but I haven't done it for myself very much. The lion banner was in part because I felt it would go well as a sort of personal heraldry icon on him. I put the Rhino up on Cmon for anyone who cares to vote.
  9. You know, that's what I think every time I see Teddy.
  10. Well, here is a set of Puppets from Wyrd. These were all part of the same commission, and they're really a joy to paint. So much so that I ended up with a photo of each one individually. So, there are a lot of pictures here:
  11. Here he is, with his heavy flamer and way too much parchment on him. I guess he must have doused those papers with something flame retardant or something. Like the others, I've posted him up to Coolmini for anyone who cares to vote.
  12. Thanks. I was using some techniques I picked up from Marike Reimer at Gencon. She does some stunning faces, and I wanted to try my hand at her makeup techniques. I will be using them quite a bit in the future. Well, it is all made worth it for two main reasons: 1- When I paint something like this, it gets appreciated. I really love doing high quality work like this as it allows me to really show off, but also stretch a little as a painter. 2- Well, I get to do this full time. I don't have a day job, I just paint miniatures all day. Some of the minis that I paint are for me, so they stay in my own display cabinet, and while many more of them are mailed away, if I did not do this for a living, I wouldn't be able to paint anywhere close to as many great minis.
  13. Here's Brother Omnio. According to the fluff in the Space Hulk set, he's part of Squad Gideon, but the fluff doesn't match the rules. In each scenario, Squad Gideon has a terminator with a chain fist, while Lorenzo has one more terminator with a simple powerfist/stormbolter combo. After looking over each of the minis, I decided that Omnio was the one who needed to switch. So he is part of my squad Lorenzo. I also posted him on Coolmini if anyone cares to vote.
  14. Oops. I meant to put him in the miniatures showcase with all of the other finished minis. Drat.
  15. Well, here's the Brother Goriel that I've painted to match the rest of my Squad Lorenzo. I'm not sure that I have a whole lot else to say about him, but I'll answer any questions anyone has. Also, I've posted him up to CMON for anyone who cares to vote.
  16. Well, here is Brother Deino, painted up to match Sergeant Lorenzo (all of Squad Lorenzo at least will match- I haven't decided exactly how to approach Squad Gideon). Overall, I'm very happy with how he turned out. I think the darker colors really help bring out the details on the sculpt. I've also posted him up on Coolmini for everyone who cares to vote.
  17. Well, technically this crew isn't actually mine. I've painted them for a commission, so they'll be seeing play elsewhere.
  18. To be fair, I did not make these bases- my client did. They were made from plasticard- it looked to me as though he first cut the plasticard into base-insert sized circles, then took a hobby knife and cut across the surface to create the planks (he did not cut all the way through). He added lines to create the ends of planks too. He also cut smaller scratches into the surface to create an uneven wood grain effect. He then took a very small drill or some other pointed tool and created two small indents next to the ends of the boards (to make it look like that was where the boards were drilled into place). Altogether, it was very convincing. When I painted it, I wanted to do something similarly convincing and so I painted a wood grain pattern onto the surface before adding gloss to create the look of a well polished stage floor.
  19. So, here is Cassandra who was painted to go with the same Colette crew:
  20. This mini was painted as part of a commission for a whole Colette crew- and the two primary colors were on each of the minis in some form. For the two performer/mannequin duos, they each had a different color be more prominent, while Cassandra has the same diamonds and colors on her that Colette does. I'll have to post up Cassandra today.
  21. Well, I don't think she needs much more introduction than that:
  22. You know, there's really nothing at all wrong with the darker color schemes for Gorman. It just needs to not be the only way things are done, you know?
  23. That is so true. Mercs are terrific. On a side note, I kind of love that about the Malifaux range. I mean, there are so few crews that want to end up looking homogeneous at all. And I really enjoy adding something subtle that ties minis together.
  24. Here is a Gorman that I painted in such a way that he'd match both my Cygnar and Magnus forces. As an interesting note, the a lot of the colors are book ended with opposing complimentary colors. For example, the blue is shaded with purple and highlighted with a yellow color. Overall, I'm happy with how he turned out, even if he is a bit brighter than what I usually do.
