  1. You give some pretty good advice, thanks! I had originally tried making them blow up on my opponent's forces, but that didn't work out too well for me. I just ended up bleeding soul stones. I would expect that they cannot, for the same reasons that the Manequins cannot use their ability that says, "Discard a SS or Sacrifice this model," to discard the soulstone unless they have used (0) Soul Dancer on the same turn. When using Magician's Duel with them, how much do you worry about the CC? Would you only use this tactic when you can get a Master by themselves? Or is it worth flying into a group of enemies just to get this off?
  2. This thread has been incredibly helpful and informative. Someone should sticky this as an errata thread as Collette doesn't yet have one. Could someone post some tricks for using the Doves? The first time I tried using them I feel like they didn't really live up to their potential, but then I don't know the best way to use them, so any help would be appreciated.
  3. Shared escape and survive basically comes down to a firefight. That said, you brought more raw killing power right off the bat. If you're opponent wasn't transposing their units, they will have been in trouble right off the bat. Especially since they can't target either your teddy or juju with transposition. I honestly think that you're opponent didn't list stack well enough. They might have been able to take it with some schemes like Reclaim Malifaux, and things that didn't involve trying to overpower you. That said, it sounds like you fared pretty well. Congratulations.
  4. Don't buy two cherubs, you only need one. But the rest is right. Get your young nephs and waldgeists. They have good synergy for Lilith. I wouldn't say the Waldgeists are auto includes, but there are times when they come in extremely useful. For the dreamer, just wait. But I've seen Alps used to good effect. Maybe pick them up when they come out. A totem is always a good buy as well.
  5. It's funny because Som'er Teeth is specifically able to join Brawl crews with Zorida the Hottie. I can see them violating rule number one of owning a house: No upholstery on the front lawn!
  6. Neverborn here! Saying, "Get the hell off our lawn!"
  7. In the case where a stat doesn't have dual focused, the suit is set before any flips are made. I agree that the suit is checked in Step 3, "Calculate Final Duel Total & Activate 1 Trigger". What I question is whether or not you have to choose which one to set the suit as when you go to use that stat, or is it suit blank until you "check" it in step 3? It seems that this would be a balance issue. I feel like there would be nothing wrong with setting it before the dual, it just increases the need for a player to try and predict their flips. That said, the effect of determining the suit along with the dual totals would just mean that dual focused models will hit their triggers much more often than other models. Not that this is a broken/bad thing, but I question whether it is the intended effect or not. As I play both the Vikkis and Daw, I maintain that I make this observation with little bias, if any. In the thread that was linked to earlier, there is a henchman that rules in favor of determining the suit during step three. In this thread there is a henchmen that rules in favor of determining it when the attack is declared. Can we get a more official ruling?
  8. I'll probably end up going with this at the tournament. I like Lalo's idea of adding an additional scheme opportunity per round. So round 1 would be just reconnoiter. Round 2 would be treasure hunt plus one scheme per crew. Round 3 is slaughter plus two schemes. I'm thinking of creating a list of Non-Faction, Non-Master specific schemes to allow players to pick from. I'm thinking of picking about 5 of the more basic ones, or something like that. Does anyone have suggestions? Let's start the list with: 1. Bodyguard (So simple it's a must) 2. 3. 4. 5.
  9. Coincidentally, I was just thinking that I could turn his spiders into, "It's a walking eye! They're all the same!"
  10. My understanding of any model with Dual Focused (Jack Daw also comes to mind) is that you must pick which suit you are using at the time that you declare an action with that stat. "When this model uses it's Ca" implies that you make the selection when you USE it (I.E. declare a spell/attack action)
  11. Tell that to my SYNTAX ERROR AT TOKEN "/" REMOVE THIS TOKEN *Ahem* Sorry about that... I think AvatarForm has a point, people. We're just arguing back and forth now. I don't know that there are really any other opinions to be discussed here. We've covered both sides of the morality issue, and whether it should or should not be allowed, etc. If you have something NEW to bring to the table, that's fine. But if not, maybe we should call it /thread?
  12. Has anyone else done any strange conversions / paint jobs?
  13. So I just finished assembling Ramos, and I am SO TEMPTED to clip off the flame in his hand, replace it with the closed umbrella from one of the Rotten Belles, and paint Ramos to look like Dr. Henry Killinger from Venture Brothers. He's even got the Magical Murderbag and everything!
  14. Augh! I can't take all the PUNishment!
  15. Zethal, thank you for using the correct "does not equal" operator ("!=" and not "=/="). My inner programmer cringes every time someone screws that up. Hogwart says that "Game=Fun". Zethal argues that "fun" means different things to different people. I think the bottom line here is that you should be having fun. No matter what your own personal definition of fun is. If each player is not having fun, something needs to change.
  16. I'm toying with the idea of having players be able to play either Minions, Henchmen, or Masters (with increasing amounts of points at character creation respectively). It all really depends on how powerful a campaign setting I wish to run. Contrary to the actual game of Malifaux, I'm hoping to see much of the roleplay be about the development and play of your singular character, rather than the crew he runs in/with. That said, this doesn't mean that there won't be some big Brawl action and threads with Crews (roleplay or combat) from time to time. The reason I'm planning on using M&M2e is explicitly BECAUSE it is so flexible and would, indeed, allow players to make goblin characters among other things.
  17. I was in fact actually thinking of Mutants and Masterminds 2e. I'm intimately familiar with it, and it's flexible enough that I can adapt it to this setting, I feel. Any RP site I would run would be laid on top of an RPG system. It's an easy way to keep players in line and solve arguments about who's character can do what. I realized that there was a thread about THAT already. What I'm aiming for with this thread is different. I'm not really looking for advice on the system. If I were to do this, I already have the method in mind. What I'm wondering now, is, if there would be any legal issues that might come up? I would of course be borrowing things from Wyrd's property, so I don't want to get sued, etc. I was thinking of coding my own unique "dice roller" for this system. M&M2e requires a d20 roll for everything. That mechanic would be too difficult to balance out were I to change it. So I was thinking of adding a random suit to every die rolled. Players could pay extra points to add static suits for their stats, and could buy things like triggers and spells in place of super powers, etc.
  18. One of the reasons I wanted to go with shared strategies was because I would add another level of simplicity to running a large tournament with heavy time constraints. I'm not sure if I mentioned it earlier or not, but I do have only 6 hours to run three full rounds. I also think it's neat if players are competing to see who can perform the best at one overarching storyline. There will be enough fluctuation from the main strategies given that each of the players may select up to two schemes each time, I think.
  19. How receptive would everyone be to this concept? Hypothetically, say someone started a site that included basically none of the rules from the game or any proprietary information, but borrowed heavily from the setting, flavor and tone of the game. How well would that go over with Wyrd? Would that be something that they support? Be indifferent about? Oppose?
  20. Izaki, what would you use as the first two strategies leading up to the third round of slaughter? Remember, I'm going for some semblance of a story line, here.
  21. The point of restricting them to starter box lists is to put everyone on an "even" playing field. Many of these players will not have models at all. Players will be able to "rent" models from myself and other experienced players who will be running the games to take care of the issue of summoned models so you Res players don't have to get worried about that. We're also restricting players to the boxes because that is yet another easy way to cut down on time consuming variables. As it stands we only have a total of six hours to run three complete rounds. For all other parts of the projected tournament, just assume I know what I'm doing :-P What I really need advice on is the condensed strategy list.
  22. My first setup was supposed to reflect: Your mission is to spread your borders; After encroaching into your enemy's territory, your crews clash!; Finally, after the battle, you have to retreat without any more losses. I picture another option using your suggestions as: 1] Shared Turf War 2] Shared Claim Jump 3] Shared Treasure Hunt Your overall mission is to get the treasure! Before you can go home with your prize, however, you must find it. Start by searching your opponents territory for likely hiding spots, then once you've zeroed in on where the treasure is hidden, you must hold down the fort while you dig it up. Finally, once the treasure is ripe for the taking, you must be the crew that goes home with it! How do these ideas sound? I'm really trying to lay on the story-based elements pretty thick, as that's one of my favorite parts of the game, and I want to get new players into it.
  23. Hello, Everybody! I have recently found out that I'll be running a small introductory tournament for new(ish) players in a few weeks time. While I am not at liberty to advertise this tournament, I would like some suggestions on methodology, as it will be my first one. Our format so far is as follows: 1. Players will be using Box Set Crews 2. Players will participate in three 1v1 rounds 3. Each round will have a set Shared Strategy for each game. (ex. Round 1: Strategy A; Round 2: Strategy B; etc) 4. Players will be allowed to pick two Schemes. (this list will likely be limited to basic schemes, and will not include Faction or Master specific schemes) 5. Each round will take place in a set location, however location Features will still be random (though possibly a reduced/simplified list). --- So far, I have decided that the shared strategies I will be giving players should have a rough semblance of a story line. My question to the readers is this: What three strategies would you suggest that would bout [A] make the most sense to inexperienced players, and flow together in some semblance of story line? To provide an example, one option I was thinking of was: Round 1: Shared Turf War Round 2: Shared Slaughter Round 3: Shared Escape and Survive
  24. Fair enough. Sounds like this thread is a wrap then. Thanks to everyone for your participation. You can send me a private message if you want to discuss this further, or want to send me your ideas.
  25. Okay, so here it is: I started this thread to inquire about card counting tactics. This thread was never about whether it should allowed or not. This thread was never about other forms of cheating. This thread was not intended to be a morality debate. Those are all separate issues. Can we please keep them that way? I apologize for getting involved in that discussion in the first place as it forced this thread even further off topic. I'd rather not see any more comments about what methods of cheating should and should not be allowed. I'd rather not see any more discussions about whether card counting itself is cheating. While these are valid issues, they are not the reason this thread was started. So please, let's get back to business: Eating Babies...*Ahem*... I mean Counting Cards: How do you do it?
