  1. where did those buildings come from, scratchbuilt?
  2. I would third (fourth?) Taelor. She is what the Viks aren't, a (relatively) tough model that can take a hit or two, and can still dish it out. I have tried Bishop, and while more versatile, he's more expensive. I like Taelor in 30ss lists. I am excited to try the SoC, I think a Fast Vik will be incredible, well worth the 3ss.
  3. Hans does need some help. While I don't ask that he becomes a "Nino for everyone", they could steer him more to the "One shot, one kill" type of model that has a greater range, more likely to hit, but in the end gets just a chance to do it in...
  4. I do agree that while the change hurts, its a good one. But I also agree that they need a bump in their Wk at least, if not overall. Now they appear to be slowish models that can go really fast every once in a while....
  5. now, mind you I have limited experience overall with Malifaux, but I have played Viks with a few different set ups against a limited pool of opponents. (Guild and Seamus) I first started with Bishop and I see that he can be very useful in a Vik/Ronin world, he playes so differently that he really helps offset their "Glass Cannon" syndrome. He can march up to the toughest thing going and keep it off the Viks. He can even move it around if done right. His downside is that he struggles to do any amount of damage, which can be frustrating. If your Bishop is up against an enemy Steamborg its no fun to realize that the Steamborg is just waiting to get lucky to smash Bishop while Bishop needs many, many turns to tear down the Steamborg. And in a world where you can Cheat Fate, things usually work out for the Steamborg. But, he is so many points that I was just overwhelmed by the opponent in many cases. His stats are great but he is worth at least 2 less Soulstones. Then he would be a great purchase, which most models usually seem to be, great purchases. I have switched over to Taelor. She offers a drastic reduction in "toughness," but is still considerably harder than the Ronin/Viks that we live by. I usually keep her near the CGS because people usually go straight for him, knowing they can't catch the Ronin/Viks and need to deal with a Trigger Happy monster.
  6. So I am stepping out from the Viks to the Crew I am completely obsessed by, Leveiticus'. My initial thought is to play Levi, Alyce and a lot of Ht 1 stuff. I think there is strong synergy between units like Necropunks, SPA and arachnids for what I want to accomplish. Necropunks move really well, as do the arachnids. However, they drop Corpse Counters, which are great for Hollow Waifs, they fail to turn into SPAs, which in the end, are the core of the Crew. The arachnids leave the all important scrap counter. They also have a couple of other important abilities, namely self destruct. Getting one with "Burn Out" to run into a pack of enemy models and blow itself up can get mid ranged models remain wounds into Levi's install kill range. Now, in the end, its all about the SPAs. In a perfect world I'd end up with 7-8 running around joining together to make "Mr. Beatstick", only to have his come apart to be made again. I do intend to have two Desolation Engine models for the rare time "everything goes right". So, my question is, what starting combination of "sidekicks" do you think I should use? In a 30SS I was thinking 2 NPs, 3 Ara and 1 SPA for 21(28 with Alyce). 3 arachnids seems a good idea in case I want to swarm them together. I thought 1 SPA so I at least started with 1 towards the 4. Thoughts?
  7. I got the box set, but also bought the CGS and a pack of Ronin. My first Crews had the CGS and ronin with the Viks, but now that the crews are getting larger I have been mixing in Taelor and Bishop. Both are great compliments to the Viks/Ronin. While I flank and move fast with the Viks/Ronin, Taelor/Bishop and the CGS go right up the gut. They are slow and tough (as Mercs go) and the CGS is great for forcing the action. He can not be ignored if he sets up in the center of the board, and if he has a bodyguard like Taelor or Bishop he can be really troublesome, especially with those Viks/Ronin closing in fast. anyways... I think the starter set is a good place to start, basically you're getting Johan for free, a neat model to get some M&SU player to trade you something for....
  8. *you* led us down this path... I just don't like the idea of Killjoy, only because I have never been a supporter of taking something that can "go wrong", especially when it can go really wrong... I would never have drafted Pacman Jones.
  9. Hello All, and knowing that the Powers That Be regularly read and post on these boards I wanted to toss an idea out there regarding the rulebook. Now, I love the layout which has rules and background mixed together. To me it sets the tone that this is a skirmish game which having fun and enjoying the "story" of the game is equally as important as the flipping of cards and moving around little metal figures. Heck, the cover reads "A Character driven Skirmish Game"... message sent and received! But, I do find it hard to pick up the game because the manner the rulebook is laid out. Great to sit and read, tough to reference while playing. I was wondering if Wyrd would ever consider releasing a downloadable PDF file of just the rules. Either charging or even released free. Long ago (okay, like 6 years) another skirmish game released the rules for it with every miniature they sold (Rackham's Confrontation 2.0) and it worked rather well. A printable PDF of the rules, possibly updated to include the Errata and FAQ, would make life really easy for new players to pick up the game, IMO. Anyways, as I said, a random thought. Keep up the excellent work, you guys are top notch!
