Hey guys,
Gonna be starting up a new project making a Malifaux playing board! This'll be my first time making a real, nice board, and I'm pretty excited. It was pretty serendipitous.. I was talking to my friend about wanting to start one, and that very day my boss was like, "Well, guess I'll throw out this giant piece of sturdy, well-maintained plywood" and I was like "NO WAIT I'LL TAKE IT" so a quick buzzsaw later and I have a nice, flat, clean, 3x3 piece of plywood. A good start!
But this being my first venture into board-making, I did have a few questions for people who have more experience. First of all, I really like the idea I have seen several times before on these forums of using that pink styrofoam and then cutting shapes into it for water, gluing it on top of the wood and filling in the holes with water effects. Where does one get sheets of that sort of styrofoam? Might I be able to find it at a model train store? I see they sell it on ebay, however I have serious doubts about having 1" thick, 1x2 sheets of styrofoam shipped to me without them breaking.
I'm thinking of doing a scene that could be used for multiple 'settings' in the book... maybe a little swampy off to one side, fading to more rocky with some ruined buildings on the other. Anyone have any suggestions for places to get good swampy trees, or anything like that?
Any other general advice would be appreciated as well! Thanks in advance!!
