  1. There's an update on the terrain/swag blog - some of the casts and what-not: http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?38571-Walpurgis-3-Swag-and-Terrain-Blog-(Custom-fate-deck-cool-terrain-and-more!)
  2. So, I'm not usually thrilled to post pictures of unpainted stuff, but I'm really pushing it to the wire, and it's been way too long since an update. Therefore, I figured some resin casts wouldn't be remiss. So, Walpurgis 3 isn't focused on what is going on in Malifaux as it is focused on what is going on beneath Malifaux. As you might expect, bad things happen. Here we've got an assortment of resin goodies that will be going to each participant, and which will be used in various scenarios over the weekend. That big fellow bursting out of the ground in the back was sculpted by Nathan Lough (the same guy who sculpted last year's Mordecai Wolfe, Plague Doctor). The "craters" (wyrms that are just breaking the surface) and the eggs (awww... aren't the baby wyrms cute!) were done by me. The gunslinger is just shown for scale. The eggs are on 30mm bases, the small craters and the ground-burster are on 50mm bases. The big crater is about an inch high and 3 or 4 inches across. It's hard to photograph unpainted white resin, so I played around with settings. Here's a couple to choose from, at least. Just because it's so pretty, here's a better shot of Nathan's work. If that Gunslinger stands very, very still, I'm sure he'll be fine. Just don't. Make. Any. Noise.
  3. Updated the participant list. We're up to 33 - 7 spots left! We're a week away from the last-month price-bump, so if you're looking to play, now's the time to let me know! Swag is shaping up nicely. Designs for the graveyard and turn/soulstone counter are finished and off to the laser cutter for prototyping. Sculpts for all of the minis and tokens and whatnot are finished, and casting is underway. I should have some painted stuff to post later this week.
  4. Glad folks like it! Heck, anyone can make one - no special tools required ... almost. The only "custom" bit was the ruins. Those were cast in resin from a mold a friend of mine made. They could easily be substituted with any old "gothic" ruins, though. I hope I'm going to have time to finish the train depot board before the next one, but at the rate things are going with the swag (slowly), I'm not sure!
  5. Here's a link to some pictures of mine: http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?27913-Walpurgis-2-Hobby-Log-Graveyard-Board If you can order them on-line (I've never seen a local hobbiest carry them), the Renedra (http://renedra.co.uk/webstore.html) gravestones are great. I think the War Store might carry them now.
  6. Unfortunately, the 2012 deck sold out long ago. However, if you follow Richelieu's link above, you can take a look at the latest deck.
  7. Ahh... The last Walpurgis I had a couple of extra cards circulating. One counting as a Red Joker (given out to the previous year's Wooden Spoon winner), one counting as a Black Joker (given to the previous year's winner). The instructions on the card said that when the card was played, the person using it was to put it in their opponent's discard pile. It was fun to trace the path of merry destruction those cards made over the course of the weekend. The look of joy at seeing your opponent flip a black joker, followed by the look of horror when you realized that, next shuffle, you'd have TWO Black Jokers in your deck. And the opposite for the Red Joker.
  8. Sorry, Grim! The blank scheme card was more of a filler because of the number of cards that are printed on a sheet (and the number of Book 4 Schemes). The cards won't be printed separately, so we can't print extra of any one card. If we could though, and extra red joker or two might be nice.
  9. Ummm... the thread may be coffee-free, but it sounds like you aren't! Red Joker you say? And, because Lemmy's mustache told me to: © Wyrd Miniatures, LLC, 2005-2013. Used with permission, no challenge to any copyright or trademark intended.
  10. Updates the participant list. Half the slots are filled. Fate Decks are all but done, and the sculpting for some of the other swag is underway. 3 months to go!
  11. Cheers! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
  12. Instead of felt, I use MDF cut to shape, with beveled edges (using a hand rasp), and textured, and flocked like the tables. That way I can use trees on bases (which are textured and flocked to match) to put on them. Same idea as the felt and moveable trees, but much prettier. Or you can magnetize. I can't find a better picture, but here's my "free wood" from my old Warhammer Wood Elves army. It's a round metal plate, textured and flocked to match my army. The trees have magnets in their bases, so they can be placed anywhere on the base. For that matter, the Citadel Woods (GW) remains a very pretty and functional piece of terrain. I think terrain is the last reasonably-priced stuff that GW makes.
  13. Indeed! I think the date the final order will be placed is Feb. 14th. Isn't it romantic!.
  14. @Mister Q - unfortunately, because of the way the cards are printed, it's not. Sorry!
  15. Howdy! I’m in the process of designing some swag for a tournament I’ll be running in May. As part of the give-aways, I like to make a small terrain piece that is used as part of one or more of the special scenarios. Last years, it was a laser-cut MDF gallows. The year before that it was a cast “minor breach” (also useable as a pool of aether or the like). This year, I thought I’ve got in my head that I’ll nake a graveyard. I reckon I’ll laser-etch some decaying stone walls and gravestones out of MDF, and provide them to tourney participants for use in the tournament. I’m done with the design of the walls, and have collected a bunch of gravestone shapes from various sources and converted them to outlines. Now, the question is, what to put ON the gravestones? I thought it might be fun to include y’all in the process. As such, I propose a contest! Design a Gravestone Step1: Download the gravestone outlines to which I’ve linked below. They’re in .png form, so you should be able to import them into any graphics program you care to use, or print them if you prefer to work in a non-electronic medium. Step 2: Design some gravestones! One, two, three, as many as you like. Add decorative carved elements, names, dates, witty epitaphs, whatever you like! Keep in mind that the final product will be laser-etched on a Malifaux-miniature-sized gravestone. As such, please use black only for your designs (no shading or multiple greys), and keep in mind how much the gravestones will be shrunk down when making your design. Little tiny letters full of witty prose probably won’t translate when it’s shrunk to an inch-high stone, though if you’re just focusing on the design elements, a couple of scrawls instead of words could translate well. Step 3: Submit your work electronically. If you printed the sheet to draw by hand, you’ll need to scan it back into an electronic format. I can take things in just about any form you’d like: .pdf, common graphic forms (jpg, png), Adobe Illustrator, Inkscape, etc. You can submit your work by either making a post here and linking to the images, or e-mailing them to jmgraham12 (at)gmail(dot)com . With your permission, I could post them here for others to enjoy and comment on, or I could just post if you win. Deadline : The deadline for submissions will be Feb 16th. Prizes: I’ll be doing the judging, and will select a handful or two of gravestones to be immortalized in MDF. If one or more of your gravestones are selected, you will win: The thanks of about 40-or-so gamers, who will drink to your honor at the third annual Walpurgisnacht tournament on May 4th/5th in Bellingham, WA. If you don’t mind your name being in the tournament pack, we’d love to give you design credit for it. A copy of your winning gravestones, laser-cut in MD, mailed to anywhere in the US in a first-class envelope as a small token of thanks. It’ll be shipped out on or before May 4th. Hopefully much, much before! Furthermore, we’ll raffle off one full copy of the graveyard set (including the walls and all of the gravestones). Every person who submits a gravestone will get an entry in the raffle, and each of the winning gravestones will get an additional raffle entry (one per gravestone). I’ll ship it anywhere in the US, on or before may 4th/5th. Maybe we’ll come up with a special prize for a fan-favorite or the like. International Caveat: Unfortunately, due to how ridiculous international shipping has become, I can’t ship anything overseas. I can try my best to find something reasonably priced to send out a gravestone or two (you can still send a letter overseas, can’t you?), but can’t make any promises. If I can’t ship to you, I’ll ask you to designate someone in the US to receive your prize. Apologies in advance if it comes to that. Copyright Caveat: I've no intention of producing more of these for general sale. I'll produce the copies for the tournament and prizes, and that's it. As long as I have your permission to do that, your design remains your own to do with what you like! I’m interested to see what y’all come up with, and I hope you have fun. It’s kind of like a macabre coloring book. I’ll be trying my hand at a couple myself! Enough Already, where are the gravestone links! If you don’t see an outline here that strikes your fancy, feel free to create your own! http://www.ordofanaticus.com/gallery/d/12943-1/gravestone1.png http://www.ordofanaticus.com/gallery/d/12946-1/gravestone2.png http://www.ordofanaticus.com/gallery/d/12949-1/gravestone3.png http://www.ordofanaticus.com/gallery/d/12952-1/gravestone4.png
  16. If anyone ends up spearheading a group order, make sure you let Richeileu know. I can commit to adding a small, but awesome, thank you for folks who take on local organizing/delivery duties. I agree about the retro deck - it is quite cool! Anyhow, cards are like dice - it's not a question of "which one?". You need them all. Also, Richelieu, nice forum avatar.
  17. Mach5's spot on about the scheme decks. $12 for a "complete" scheme deck with updates. Huh. It's interesting, that while our world is rapidly shrinking due to our ability to electronically communicate with folks around the world in a blink of an eye, it feels bigger than 10 years ago in respect to ability to transport goods. TV killed the radio star, I guees (or, perhaps email killed the snail-mail star). My advice for folks abroad: check with other locals to see if folks want to go in together for a group order to save on shipping. It's a bear of a cost for a single deck, but spread out over multiple decks it might not be as bad.
  18. hh. Never thought about the card trick angle. Superior POD cards definitely fall more into the "papery" class of things. The CPC cards are plastic-coated, so they definitely don't feel papery. However, I've only used the heavier stock of paper, which makes them more durable, but a bit more stiff. Not too stiff to shuffle and bridge well, but perhaps stiffer than ideal for some tricks. You can deal off the bottom of the deck, force cards, and do top retention cuts, but I think they'd be too stiff to do the thingee (not sure what it's called) where you have the cards palmed (not the right word) on the back of your hand, display an empty hand, and then make the card appear from thin air. You'd need a thinner card for that to work well. I agree re: the puppet and old school style decks. Maybe I'm a card-playing curmudgeon, but I don't care for the feel of the all-plastic decks in the hand.
  19. @sqir666: The decks haven't been ordered from the manufacturer yet, so they're pretty much unlimited until we place the order which (I think) will be in a couple weeks. Mark can say for certain! Also, here's a peek at the 13 of Masks: © Wyrd Miniatures, LLC, 2005-2013. Used with permission, no challenge to any copyright or trademark intended.
  20. Muhahahahaha! http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?38825-Custom-Fate-decks
  21. Shoot, maybe it was Clousseau. I forget! Edit: it totally was Clousseau, and he did a great job. Mark, it's your call! If UKRocky can do it and you trust him, then that's fine. Otherwise, you may want to ask Clousseau if he can do it again this year. I can vouch for him! Sorry about the mix up!
  22. Yup, international shipping is outrageous. I think the best bet is to find a group of folks in your area to pool together, and place one large order. if you can find a reasonable way of doing the overseas, let us know! Were just charging actual shipping costs. I'll poke around on real cost for shipping just the updates overseas. It can't be that much to ship a letter, right? Glad folks like them! I'll post some more card images tonight. Stay tuned!
  23. And, the card backs are done! As you can see, this year's fate deck is sponsored by the Through the Breach podcast (thanks, guys!) If you like the deck, and won't be able to attend Walpurgis, they will be available for limited sale (along with a reprint and update of the scheme/strategy deck). I'll link to it from this thread after it's up and running. I also have an idea for a little contest that might be fun, and provide a way for some of y'all to get some unique Walpurgis swag. Details to follow! Now I get to start working on some sculpting and design work for some more swag! Also, a train depot board.
  24. Looking good! You'll be taking Doug to Gottacon, then? Glad you've finally seen the light and started playing with the best Resser master there is.
  25. I've edited the participant list. If you've paid, but don't see your name on that list, please let me know. I don't want to inadvertently miss anyone.
