  1. if you are just looking for the cracked earth effect, it isn't difficult at all (it is what I use on all my Protectorate of Menoth bases).

Brushthralls used to have a great Faction in 10 days article with lots of pictures showing exactly how to do it. Found the article but no pictures here the instructions are still pretty good.

  2. Thanks for the info.

I tried to read through the mentioned thread, but haven't found anything about the extra models required to play, e.g. how many extra goblins / piglets / etc. do I need in addition to my crew. I don't really like to put empty bases in play because I don't have a third, fourth or seventh pig in my case. Does any thumb-rule exist like 1,5×(goblins in crew) hit the board in your average game?

    Anyways, I'll try the following: 2 mosquitos, 1 warpig, 1 whisperer, 4 gremlins, 2 piglet, 4 ss. We'll see... :)

Aside from the Starter Set which comes with Som'er, 4 Bayou Gremlins and the Warpig:

    1) 2 Hog Whisperers (for running the Pig Boomerang)

    2) 1 additional blister of Gremlins (for summoning shenanigans)

    3) 1 additional blister of Piglets (this will give you 5 with the two hog whisperers though you usually wont use more then 3)

    4) 2 Skeeters will be more then enough (I use them mainly for the Pig boomerang, some may argue for 4 but since they are no longer immune to Dg from "Pull my Finger" and insignificant they really dont do a whole lot for me).

Though Som'er can summon more Bayou's they are expendable and die pretty easily (to enemy fire and "Whoops!") so you shouldn't ever have more then 8 at a time. The Piglets can only be made in game by Som'ers "Come and Get it" trigger in melee so dont count on having more then maybe 4 at a time.

My usual list at 35 SS is:

    Som'er

    2 Hog Whisperers

    1 Warpig

    2 Piglets

    2-3 Bayou Gremlins

    2 Skeeters

    * with 1-3 SS for the Cache

At 30 SS I just drop the 2nd Hog Whisperer.

The above gives me 6-7 models to claim objectives/complete schemes and strategies, a very manueverable pig strike force, a decent starting Gremlin Gunline, and the potential for direct damage spam from Skeeters.

  3. I have considered the MAS Chaos bases before, but decided against them because of no larger sizes. I do like that lava base though, it fits pretty well with the chaos bases.

Assuming you were talking about the Wasteland bases from MAS because the Chaos Wastes are available in all the base sizes from 30mm to 50mm on there website.

  4. Came across these two sites while looking for building kits for myself:

    Bar Mills

    Better Than Stratch

Though they look like they will require a bit of work to assemble they definately look like they will be worth it in the end. I have my eye on either the "Wicked Wanda's" piece from bar mills or the "Shanty" piece with some extras from B.T.S. for the start of my bayou hideout for Som'er.

"O" scale is suppossed to be pretty close to Malifaux (especially when you take into account bases).

  5. Aside from the yellowish tint (can usually be gotten rid of by changing the digital camera settings to the correct light temp) you might try a white or black foamcore background to help your photos pop.

For the models I would add a brownish wash to the sand on the bases to give some more definition/ contrast.

  6. @ GremlinSwarm thanks for the catch on Ill fated (not sure why I typed that) corrected in the earlier post so it wont cause confusion later down the road.

Although gremlins being able to hire a desolation engine in a brawl I'm sure was not intended, but it is technically rules as written for now.

Nice catch on the during Scraps part of Good ol' Boys, I have read over that so many times. Still think the Brawl encounter level needs some further explanation as is it doesn't clearly state how the crews are handled (are they seperate or communal, i.e. each master selects their crew then you run them together, or the Masters select their crews from the list of models that both could hire?

  7. Som'er can team up with crews containing Zoraida or other Outcast Crews as per his ability "Good ol' Boys"

"Good ol' Boys" also limits crew selection for Som'er to Gremlins, Vermin, and Pigs. I couldn't find anything in the rulebook, FAQ, or Errata pertaining to specific ownership of models within a crew other then the Totems which are connected to their specific named Master, so RAW means crew selection for Brawls would have to meet each masters hiring restrictions. This means that in a brawl the only models (other then the other Master) need to fit the criteria for Som'er. Because Som'er is in the Crew then the Gremlins, Pigs, and Vermin wouldn't cost the usual +1 SS.

Right now that is how it stacks up for Som'er. Definately think that the Brawl size eccounter needs to be expanded to help clear up this issue by either establishing ownership of specific models to each master (i.e. two seperate crews working together for the same goal) or each Master drawing from a shared Pool of henchmen(i.e. two Masters working together for the same goal but using only henchmen they both like).

  8. Main difference being that "Slow to Die" is an ability (no AP requirement at all) versus "Eat Your Fill" which is an action (with a 0 AP cost assigned to it). For "Eat Your Fill" to function like "Slow to Die" it would either need to be an Ability or Trigger for the pig.

The correction in the errata for "Stampede" doesn't make a distinction between 0 AP or 1 AP only that “This model must use all AP during its activation to make Pigcharges." RAW is that you cant use "Eat Your Fill" on a stampeding pig because of the AP cost (even though it is 0) associated with it.

  9. If they don't get splattered right off, Warpigs can heal themselves really quickly with either Eat Your Fill or Eat Anything.

You have to kill a target for the first one to work, but you can always eat your own Gremlin for that, if all else fails. (The Gremlins have a lot of lose a model for some sort of direct gain tricks.)

One bit I've not seen mentioned much is Eat Anything. This lets the Warpig clear out a fairly large swathe of tokens (both corpse and scrap), thus denying them to scavenger and grave robber models, who tend to be able to cause all sorts of trouble with them--and you pig heals, to boot.

Warpigs are expensive, though, so I'd think carefully about taking more than 1.

The reason these two things aren't usually mentioned is because Stampeding Pigs can't use them. I would have rather seen Eat your fill as a trigger then an action. Agreed they are nice when you can use them.

  10. Major thing I see is the dependance on the Stank to win with its 10 or higher card flip.

Would recommend rather then playing Pig pinball try the Pig bommerang. Lose one big pig and two skeeters and take two piglets and another ho Whisperer. This will give you more options for the win and greatly facilitate controlled hit and run pigcharges.

  11. I like what you have done thus far, however I am not sure "Bayou Ruins" is really a good description for this. More like the descriptions of the quartine zone then Bayou. Perhaps after painting, flocking, and weathering. Once again it looks good just less and less like Bayou.

  12. I rather like the idea of using them as templates for foamcore buildings (it is much easier to get the scale right then trying to eyeball it). After the basic frame is up it is just a matter of adding a few bits and pieces from the model train shop (testured polystyrene is the greatest thing ever).
