  1. As a Guild player, I say NO... she sucks, don't get her, uh.. did I mention I hate her.. er.. I mean she is terrible? I have a harder time facing her than any other Master to date. She has the ability to race across the table and charge without LOS (through buildings even as she currently stands) and bring into your face a massive beat down. If you manage to survive her charging you, she has an awesome defense that makes it harder to hit her in return. She is definitely a brute force in your face Master.
  2. Thanks Magno, I really appreciate the compliments! I used to paint a lot more detailed back before I took my 3yr hiatus from gaming/painting, but this time around I am scaling back my level of painting for the sake of getting stuff on the table. Trying to get a fig on the table in 2-3 hours (or in Sonnia's case 4-5hrs) means I have to take some shortcuts. Blending is pretty much the first one I cut to get figs painted in so short a time. If you have any tips for "speed painting" and still managing to blend, I would LOVE to hear them. While I started off saying that I am acceptable with "table top quality", my own perfectionist tendencies are starting to come out and I am wanting to get back to the painting level I used to do. I just don't have the time for it these days.
  3. Thanks for the comments AoM... do you have pics of your Sonnia or St. Anger's? I was going to sculpt flames in her hand for her spell, but after several failed attempts and much cussing... cards it was! Would love to see how someone else did it.
  4. Lilith = Dammed piece of [expletive], [expletive]-smoking, [expletive] dumpster [expletive], white trash [expletive] swilling, [expletive] [expletive] [expletive], [expletive], [expletive]!!
  5. haha.. thanks DeafNala... it's the goth black eye liner! Now that I have a pair of teen daughters, I always laugh when I paint eyes as they inevitably end up looking just like my girls after they get ready for school, dates, etc.
  6. Thanks Eric... I have to give credit for the color scheme to my fiance'. She is one of those artsy type girls, always drawing and painting and stuff... She helped a ton with the scheme. I just told her I needed brown for the jacket to match the theme of the rest of the army.
  7. Thanks MEdwards... you going up to the LGS tomorrow? We can throw down.
  8. I wanted to get Sonnia and Samael Hopkins finished together, but I wussed out and just worked on Sonnia so I could have her ready for game day tomorrow. Blah blah blah table top quality blah blah blah… although I have to admit that I spent a bit more time on her since I was doing just her and not assembly line painting. Overall around 4-5 hours total into her. Which is a step up from the 2-3 I was doing for the others. So here we go! Any comments or tips for improvement are welcomed.
  9. haha.. cool ideas. I think I am going with a stylized version of the actual cards. The black "triangle" going from the top right corner to the lower left corner will be in red/maroon and the rest of the card in the off-white I have now. Then the backs of the cards will be black with the red/maroon stripe down the center Now to actually do it and not screw up the rest of the paint job tonight... haha
  10. I actually prefer paper counters to super cool 3D ones myself. 3D ones look great and all, but they get in the way of game play most of the time. A nicely made flat 2D paper token means the figs can walk all over them without having to worry about figs being on top of the bases/counters. You have a link to those you made?
  11. So I mention before that I didn't like the cigarette in Sonnia's hands. After much debate on what to do, I stole someone else's idea and put two cards in her hand. Chopped the cig out, and cut out a piece of plastic from a malifaux blister that resembles two cards fanned out. So I painted the figure... the cards are just an off-white for now... But what to do with them? I was going to put an Ace of Hearts on there since Rams = Hearts... but yeah... Aces are bad m'kay? So then I thought I might try and print off the 12 Rams card that was previewed awhile ago... yeah.. shrinking ti down to super small size just makes a color blob. So any tips, ideas, suggestions on what to do with the face of the cards?
  12. I have only played 25SS games so far, but based on the lists and models I keep wanting to build/add, I am consistently falling into the 35-40 SS range.
  13. Yep.. Sam and the Executioner are both great for adding to the Ortegas.
  14. Nice looking crew man! I love the black on Sonnia... very Matrix'y. haha... then again I just watched the entire trilogy over the weekend so that has been running through my head for the past four days!
  15. Thanks Grim... that is exactly why I changed my style. It is rare that I get more than 2-3 hours per week to paint, so I needed to spend that time as efficiently as possible. Thus the speed painting was born. I have Sonnia painted and based already... just trying to decide what to do with her cards. I removed the cigarette and replaced it with two cards. Right now the cards are just an off-white color. Trying to work out what to do with them...
  16. They are resin round-lip bases. So they are a one piece resin base fully sculpted, ready for cleaning up, primering, and painting. Dragon Forge Round Lip Bases
  17. Thanks everyone, yeah I am really digging these new bases. Jeff at Dragon Forge does some top notch work. I encourage everyone to check them out.
  18. Thanks for the comments everyone! Back to the painting desk already this morning. Trying to get Sonnia and Sam finished today.
  19. Not a lot of drybrushing really, but instead of doing 7-8 layers of colors, blending them in, etc. For these speed painting figs I just do 3 different colors (shadow, base, highlight) and ink/wash them. The other thing I will do instead of following the folds of robs, face lines, etc exactly, I will give quick short brush strokes to give the illusion of creases, etc. From a distance, the figs look solid, up close they look a bit rough. Thanks for the compliments though! The point is to get them on the table and playing, not painting for weeks on end and never playing with them.
  20. 4 days weekends are great for painting… I have some down time this weekend with a daughter feeling a bit under the weather and wanting to stay home, not to mention the rain has been coming down all week. So we decided to stay at home and paint together. Again, keeping with the “speed painting” technique of getting them on the table rather than trying to win painting contests, here are the latest Guild models finished. A trio of Witchling Stalkers. - - Up next will be Sonnia and Sam Hopkins. I hope to get them started today and finished tomorrow with the day off due to the holiday!
  21. There are a couple things you can do for this. First to mind are these two: 1: Sheet Styrene: Go to your local train/hobby store and look for a product called Evergreen Scale Models Sheet Styrene. They have several different styles from smooth to cobblestone, tiles, etc. Grab one that that has the pattern you need. - Pros: You have an exact pattern you want, cheap to get. - Cons: You have to cut out an insert manually. Cutting a perfect circle sucks ass. I did it for some models for my fiance, but would never do it for anyone else or myself again. haha 2: Dragon Forge: Jeff Wilhelm at DragonForge.com has some awesome resin bases that he sells. They are basically $1 each for the 30mm bases. Not bad at all for the awesome quality of the bases. And when you look at the cost vs frustration level. This is my preferred choice. I have 36 bases (30x 30mm, 5x 40mm, 1x 50mm). And watch for his "Spend $30, get $5 free" sale. 3: Green Stuff Sculpt: I suck at greenstuff work, however this base would be a breeze to do. Fill the base with greenstuff, use a metal edge ruler to carve straight lines, repeat. Sand when finished, pin your models. Best of luck man! One of the three methods should work for you.
  22. I use a two part system for my figs and it has always served me very well. I use a gloss coat first, as the gloss coats tend to be harder and offer more protection for your figs. Unfortunately, that protection comes with a high gloss shiny appearance. So I then use a dull or matte varnish to knock it down a bit. From my experience, you can't beat a can of Krylon Crystal Clear Gloss for your first coat. Wait a couple hours for it to dry, best if you can wait overnight. Then hit it with two coats of Tester's Dull Coat. The Dull coat is expensive for the small mini can you get, but you are only really using it to knock down the gloss from the Krylon. The Krylon does the protection, so the Dull Coat is just to make it look pretty.
  23. hahahaha Way back when I was a teen (little sister had a Teddy Ruxspin back then), I used one of his song lyrics as a poem that I would say I wrote for my GF... used that thing 4-5 times over the years. haha As I dream my dreams of what life should be You are always there standing right beside me To share in my laughter, my joys and fears To comfort my sorrow and calm my fears We are always together hand in hand Sharing the dreams we both have planned and I forget the rest... haha
  24. 30 sounds like a great balance between flexibility and time constraints.
  25. These are the Urban Rubble set. It took me quite a bit to finally decide between a few of the sets as they are all kick ass. Cobblestone and Wasteland II were the other two I was considering. These bases are top notch! Very clean lines, awesome detail, and the most important thing… even bottoms to the bases. No need for tons of filing/sanding to level out the bottom of the bases. Overall I am thrilled with the bases. Dragon Forge Round Lip Bases Make sure to check out his sale prices and promos too. I was able to get a 50mm base for free by spending over $30. So kudos to Jeff Wilhelm at Dragon Forge, not only does he make awesome bases, he is a great guy as he was more than willing to share some painting tips on his work. I’ll definitely be picking up more bases from him for future projects.
