Malipho'enix Gremlins vs. Guild 50 Soulstones

This is a battle report from the Malipho'enix group that is now meeting at Tempe Comics on Friday's at 5 PM.

This was a 50 soulstone game Guild vs Gremlins. 

Standard Deployment

The Strategy was Interference, the Schemes were Convict Labor, Take Prisoner, Hunting Party, Public Demonstration, and A Quick Murder.

Gremlins lost the flip for deployment and the Guild player chose to have me deploy first and choose deployment zone.

The Gremlin list was Ulix with Husbandry, Old Major with Corn Husks, Penelope, Gracie with Saddle, Merris Lacroix, Lenny and Slop Hauler.

Gremlins win the initiative and pass first activation to Guild.

Francisco used his ability El Mayor on Perdita giving her +2 willpower and defense, then he double walked forward.

Lenny activates and does an interact action to drop a scheme marker and then walked forward.

Papa Loco does his ability Hold This on Perdita giving her + twists to damage flips, then he walks behind the Death Marshal.

Merris Lacroix activates and goes Reckless. She drops a scheme marker then walks. She does Gremlin Cunning which allows her to draw the top to cards from the deck and then put three cards from my hand back on top of the deck in any order. Then she uses her 0 action Bombs Away that allows fer to place a scheme marker as long as it is 2" away from any friendly scheme marker at the cost of discarding 1 card.

Death Marshal did the action Pine Box to Papa Loco who relented and then became buried removing him off the board and then walked forward.

Ulix activates and does the Birthin' action once off of Old Major and once off of Gracie doing 2 damage to both summoned Piglets, Gracie, and Old Major. Ulix then does Call Foth the Pork, discarding the three scheme markers and summoning in a War Pig into base contact with Ulix. The War Pig and Ulix both suffer 4 points of damage but Ulix uses a Soulstone to reduce the damage by 2. Lastly Ulix uses his 0 action Proper Care to heal 2 damage on all pig models within a 6" pulse but takes 2 damage on Ulix.

At the end of Ulix's activation he has taken 4 damage and the War Pig only has 2 damage; all the other pigs are completely healed up.

Guild Austringer activates and double walks forward.

Slop Hauler goes Reckless and heals himself, Merris, Ulix, and the War Pig. The War Pig, Merris, and the Slop Hauler heal all damage and Ulix heals 3 damage leaving him with only 1 damage. Then the Slop Hauler walks slightly forward.

The Judge activates and walks forward then uses his 0 action Stand for Judgement on Perdita who relents and gets pushed 5 inches towards The Judge ending in base contact. Then The Judge walks forward.

The slow Piglet that was summoned from Old Major walked 5" behind the shed. The Piglet had +1 walk due to Penelope's Kept at a Distance and activating within the 6" aura.

I activate Old Major and realize I had deployed him to far away from Ulix for Ulix to actually use his ability Hitch a Ride which has a 2" range. Then I didn't think about Old Major's 0 action The Old Pig Knows The Way that pushes all friendly Gremlins within a 4" pulse to push up to their walk towards Old Major.

So Old Major instead moved into Hitch a Ride range of Ulix and then walked 6" due to Penelope's +1 walk from Kept at a Distance and pushed Ulix into base contact at the end.

Perdita used her 0 action Bullet Bending so her Shoot actions will ignore cover. Then she double walked forward and shot Lenny once doing 3 damage.

That is the last Guild activation.

Slow summoned War Pig activates and walks 5" around Merris.

Gracie activates and drops a scheme marker then saddles the Slop Hauler and walks forward.

Slow summoned Piglet walks 4" towards Merris.

Beginning of 2nd turn Gremlins win initiative.

Lenny walks back behind Gracie and does Pet the Piggy! Which heals all 3 damage so he is back to full health.

The Judge activates, walks forward, and does his 0 action Stand For Judgement on Gracie failing. Then The Judge walks back behind the tree.

Penelope activates and double walks.

Guild Austringer Focuses and shoots Gracie only doing 1 damage due to Gracie's natural 2 armor and Lenny's 3" aura Big Target that reduces damage on other friendly models by 1.

Piglet activates and drops a scheme marker as a 0 action due to the ability Trained Pigs from Old Major's upgrade Corn Husks. Then the Piglet double walks into the forest.

War Pig activates and double walks forward getting the +1 walk due to Penolope's Kept at a Distance.

Perdita uses her 0 action Bullet Bending to ignore cover. She then walks forward shooting at the Piglet in the woods twice using a soulstone on each shot to get rid of the negative twist due to the Piglets ability Small Target. She misses once and hits once doing 4 damage, leaving the Piglet with 1 health. 

Later the Guild player realized that his upgrade Trick Shooting has a 0 action True Mark that would have allowed him to ignore armor, the only reason he didn't target Gracie was because of her massive damage reduction of 3 which with that 0 action would have only been a damage reduction of 1 due to Lenny's Big Target aura.

Merris Lacroix activates and walks to drop a scheme marker with her 0 action Bombs Away and then uses Gremlin Cunning to draw 2 cards and put 3 cards on top.

Death Marshal activates and double walks next to Perdita.

Guild has finished activating.

Gracie activates and does her 0 action Riled Up taking 2 damage and gaining the Reactivate condition. She then double walks forward saddling Lenny both times.

Gracie charges the Death Marshal hitting with the first attack but getting Black Joker for damage. Second attack hits and declares the ram trigger Tear 'em Apart due to Lenny's aura Dumber Luck that gives rams to all other friendly models within a 3" aura. Gracie does weak damage dealing 4 damage to the Death Marshal.

Ulix activates and summons a Piglet from Old Major, fails to summon a second Piglet but succeeds at summoning a War Pig. Ulix reduces the damage by 1 by using a soulstone. Ulix then uses his 0 action Proper Care to heal Old Major and the Piglet fully and the War Pig only has 2 damage. Ulix now has 6 damage leaving him with 4 health remaining.

Slop Hauler activates and goes Reckless. He heals himself and the War Pig completely and Ulix draws the Red Joker for healing and heals 4 damage putting him at 2 damage. Slop Hauler then walks forward.

Slow summoned Piglet walks into the shed.

Slow summoned War Pig walks forward and Ulix Hitches a Ride pushing into base contact.

I immediately get nervous with Ulix's new position and decide to get him out of there. 

Old Major activates and does his Nudge 'em On action on the War Pig pushing the War Pig 4 inches. Then he walks with Ulix Hitching a Ride.

End of turn 2 we both scored 1 point from the strategy Interference.

Turn 3 Gremlins win initiative again!

Gracie activates and does her 0 action Riled Up. She attacks the Death Marshal twice missing the first attack but hitting and killing with the second attack. She uses her ability Eat Your Fill to heal all damage and immediately end her activation. Papa Loco then unburies from the Death Marshal before being removed.

I reveal that I have the Scheme Hunting Party and score 1 point, putting me at 2 and Guild at 1.

Perdita activates and uses her 0 action True Mark to ignore armor and incorporeal and shoots Gracie 3 times killing her.

Guild reveals they took A Quick Murder on Gracie getting 3 points from it being turn 3.

Guild 4 to Gremlins 2.

Papa Loco then Companion activates. He charges Lenny missing with the first attack and hitting with the second dealing weak damage of 3 to Lenny.

Piglet charges the Austringer hitting once and getting the trigger Bowled Over pushing him 4 inches and following up into base contact. Deals no damage due to black joker the other attack misses and the last action point the Piglet attacks again and misses.

Francisco walks and then shoots at the War Pig missing. He then uses his 0 action Finesse discarding a card and giving negative twists to melee actions targeting him.

War Pig that was shot at by Francisco activates and charges Perdita attacks missing once hitting with the second attack and declared the trigger Stampede taking 1 damage and charging The Judge. On the first attack against the Judge he got the trigger Grab On giving The Judge Slow but ending his activation and did 2 damage.

The Judge activates and since he is slow attacks the War Pig once hitting and getting the trigger Blades and Bullets being able to shoot the War Pig doing a total of 5 damage leaving the War Pig with 6 health left.

My other War Pig activates walks and then charges Santiago missing with the first attack but hitting and triggering Stampede so he charged Francisco. First attack on Francisco misses, the second attack hits triggering Bowled over and I pull red joker for damage! Normally the 8 damage would have been enough to kill Francisco outright but luckily Francisco had Lead Lined Coat dropping the damage down to 7.

Austringer activates and performs Quick Retreat pushing out of melee, then he shoots at the Piglet missing due to Small Target.

Piglet activates walks and then charges Papa Loco. Both attacks hit and get the trigger Bowled Over, however the first push pushed Papa Loco into the wall stopping any further pushing. The Piglet did a total of 3 damage to Papa Loco.

Santiago then shoots twice at the Piglet in melee ignoring Papa Loco due to the I'll Cover You! ability. He missed both times due to Small Target on the Piglet.

Guild is finished with their activations.

Merris activates and double walks.

Old Major double walks and Ulix Hitches a Ride each time pushing with him.

Ulix activates and attempts to summon a Piglet 3 times only succeeding once. Then he does his 0 action Proper Care and heals Old Major and the Piglet taking 2 points of damage.

Slow Summoned Piglet walks into the forest.

Piglet charges Papa Loco missing once and getting the trigger Grab On giving Papa Loco slow and ending his activation.

Slop Hauler goes Reckless walks up and heals himself and Lenny. Lenny only heals 1 damage so still has 2 damage on him.

Lenny charges Perdita missing the first attack from Perdita getting a red joker on defense. Second attack hits and does weak damage 3.

End of turn 3 Gremlins score 1 for Interference putting the score at Guild 4 to Gremlins 3.

Top of turn 4 Gremlins win initiative.

Lenny activates and attacks Perdita twice missing with the first attack and hitting with the second with a red joker, doing weak damage of 3. Perdita uses a soulstone to reduce damage and reduces it by 1 so 2 damage taken.

Perdita activates and shoots Lenny twice killing him. With her 3rd action she shoots the War Pig but misses.

War Pig activates and attacks The Judge twice hitting once with the Eat Anything trigger healing 2 damage putting it at 8 health left.

The Judge activates and attacks the War Pig twice hitting both times but getting the Black Joker on damage so doing a total of 4 damage and dropping the War Pig to 4 health left.

Francisco discards a card to do Flurry on the War Pig. After all three attacks hit the War Pig is reduced to 2 health left.

War Pig activates and attacks Francisco once doing the last point of damage to kill Francisco but getting the trigger Grab On ending his activation.

Papa Loco activates attacking the Piglet twice hitting once doing moderate damage doing 4 damage to the Piglet hit and 3 damage through blast on the other Piglet.

Piglet activates and charges the Austringer getting the trigger Bowled Over both times. Last attack misses.

Santiago shot at both Piglets in melee with Papa Loco, hitting and killing both.

Guild scores 1 point for hunting party putting them at 5 points.

Slop Hauler went Reckless and shot at Papa Loco missing. He then charged Papa Loco hitting with both attacks doing 3 damage on the first attack and two damage on the second attack killing Papa Loco.

On death Papa Loco does his ability BOOM! which kills the Slop Hauler and Perdita.

Austringer activates and does Quick Retreat pushing out of combat then shot the Piglet but misses.

Piglet activated walked up and charged the Austringer and misses with both attacks.

Old Major gains Reactivate due to Guild not having any cards in their hand.

Penelope activates and charges Santiago doing 1 point of damage on the first attack and missing with the second attack. She then uses her 0 action Herd 'em to push the War Pig 5" towards The Judge.

Ulix activates and attempts to summon a piglet twice failing both times. He then walks behind the shed.

Old Major double walks.

Old Major reactivates and charges The Judge dropping him down to 1 health due to Hard to Kill.

Merris double walks.

End of turn 4 Gremlins score 1 due to Interference bringing the score to Guild 5 to Gremlins 4.

Guild wins initiative.

The Judge attacks the War Pig and kills him outright. The second attack he targets Old Major and misses due to a black joker.

Guild scores 1 for Hunting Party putting their score at 6.

Old Major attacks The Judge twice, the first attack misses. The second attack hits but is a tie and on the fourth card I flipped for the damage flip there was the black joker.

Santiago activates and attacks Penelope killing her outright. His second attack targets the War Pig which missed due to hard cover.

War Pig activated and charged The Judge killing him.

Gremlins score 2 points from A Quick Murder... That was not Quick at all. Gremlins are now up to 6 points.

Austringer activates and does Quick Retreat then shoots and kills a Piglet.

Merris goes Reckless, walks forward and shoots at Santiago twice hitting once and giving him Burning +3.

The Piglet activates and charges the Austringer attacking a total of 3 times but missing every time.

At the end of turn 5 Santiago dies from Burning and Gremlins score 1 more point due to Interference.

Guild scored 1 point from Interference, 2 points from Hunting Party, and 3 points from A quick Murder.

Gremlins scored 4 points from Interference, 2 points from A Quick Murder and 1 point from Hunting Party.

Final score Gremlins 7 to Guild 6.

Ulix vs. Perdita 50 soulstone Malipho'enix Battle Report.

This was an interesting game, I definitely have to learn to position Ulix's summoning brick more effectively. I think overall Lenny, Gracie, and Merris where not that important in this list as I was expecting them to be, so next time I will change around the list a bit.

Any tips and advice are appreciated as well as pointing out any mistake during the game.

I love these battle reports.  Could I request for future reports that you summarise some of the reasons you chose the crew you did?  Even if the reason is 'I just painted the model' it really helps to follow the thought process.

I found it quite interesting how you started off seemingly trying to keep the group all together but by the end of the game everything was very spread out.  Was that a necessity for the scoring, or could you have worked around it to keep everyone tight together?
