Use a plain piece of white printer paper (long-ways) as a backdrop. Bend it (don't fold it) so that the mini is on the paper but the paper also comes up behind it (and make sure your camera is set to the Macro function, the button looks like a flower). You can use a piece of Scotch tape to tape it to the wall or something (I have mind taped inside a shoebox to diffuse the light a little). Then crop out everything else in GIMP or on whatever photo-hosting service you use (I use Photobucket, where you can also adjust the lighting and contrast and such).

It fixed a lot of color issues for me, and most of my focusing issues. The only thing I have to worry about now is shaky hands. :P

Shaky hands can be dealt with by using a tripod (or some sort of rest for the camera). When taking photos of my models (if I'm using long time exposition and no flash), I use the timer function. I set the timer for 2 seconds and it works brilliantly..
