Dispel vs. Bolster Undead

Dustcrusher

Question

I ran into a snag in a game last week.

Can Dispel Magic be used on Nicodem to undo Bolster Undead for the turn? I have looked in several threads and it sounds like it could be one of three possibilities:

1) Yes, it dispels Bolster Undead completely for the turn since it is an effect Nicodem is generating.

2) No, since it's an aura, Nicodem can't be targeted to remove an effect that isn't technically "on" him.

3) No, but the effects of Bolster Undead can be stripped from a specific model for the turn as they are under the effects of it.

Clarification would be much appreciated.

Nicodem may not be directly affected by the Bolster effect, but he is still the model generating the aura (creating the effect). To me, that says you can target Nico with Dispel Magic and end Bolster ... but I can see how someone might argue otherwise. I would have to argue common sense on this one.

Bolster Undead is an effect that Nicodem generates. Just because the aura doesnt affect him, doesnt mean it's not an effect on him.

Whereas, you can completely legally dispel an effect from a specific model....but it would get it back again immediately because the aura is constantly reapplied (arguably a rules marshall may say you cant do this at all, but it's moot since it does nothing anyway).

Thank you all for the responses- I suspect the dispel on model affected by aura will come up sooner or later, so that is good to know too.

Now I just need more practice in dealing with Witchling Stalkers. It seems like Sonnia is as nasty a foe for Nicodem as Lady Justice, but that's for another topic.
