  1. I'm noticing this with a lot of their stuff..... I noticed a lot of the stuff they had listed on their website at one point....is now gone. Including the new Ten Thunders Models (Chi Wardens, I think they're called. The ones that ride the paper lanterns) and the The Guild Models (The Day of the Dead Mariachi looking ones)......kind of upsetting 'cause I was looking to order them and theres no shops at all near me without driving 2 hours that sell malifaux

    I hope you're still playing!

Well, the beauty of TT is that so much of our faction is dual-faction.  If Guild is interesting to you, I recommend getting the McCabe box.  While the Wastrels are not the best model, McCabe is a lot of fun, as is Alchibal, his henchman.

With Misaki, from The Thunder, you'll get access to the Outcasts.  Currently, I run her with the Katanake Crime Bosses, Wokou Raiders, and Yamaziko.  All good models.

The fun part of Ten Thunders is they are so diverse it feels--sometimes--like you're playing five different armies.

Oh I haven't given up, buddy and I try to meet up at least once a week to play. So far I'm on a winning streak. Last game we played we took the advice of everyone. We randomly drew schemes (after sitting down and writing them on cards). Battle looked one sided at first but turned around very quickly when I got an assassinate off on his leader with Yamaziko.

Definitely plan on picking up McCabe, since I plan on doing an all cowboy themed list for the guild that I have called "The Law Rides On.." and then another list for Ten Thunders called "The Dragon Meets The Bull dog"

For what it's worth I don't think that is a good idea. You start learning things that aren't part of the game, such as killing wins games, which I don't think helps in the long run. I would suggest some vps even if you just do reckoning with assassination and murder protege, because then you have to plan your killing at least.

Edit oh vendetta! That's a good killing scheme but that you have to think around...

Yeah I actually sat down and looked over the schemes, we need to get hard copies of them rather then using the app. Hell I still need to finish painting my miniatures. I just kinda wish we had more people in our area but none of the shops wanna carry the miniatures 'cause of 1st Edition.

Some things I noticed from what little I read,

Conflux of Thunder on Misaki, while the confluxes are master specific, it is the emissary who equips them. They are just limited based on your current master.

Burning soulstones on Shadow Emissary attack. Only Masters and Henchman can burn soulstones, and Emissary is an Enforcer.

Again, we're both still learning so, things weren't perfect.

I would like to point out another thing: if you are both playing the same schemes because you're both learning, please make sure that they don't favor one crew as much as they did in that game. Quick Murder and Eliminate the Leadership is the combination clearly tailored for Misaki, whereas Tara player would have an edge in interact-heavy scheme pools which will let him to capitalize on his ability to multiply his own AP/minimize opposing AP.

we did this on purpose to see what they were like, next one we do will be all randomly generated in the app

  5. Buddy and I played a game of Turf War Saturday evening. Misaki vs tara. We're both noobs so it took a bit longer then it should of since we had to read the rules up. Was a custom format, Turf War w/ Assassinate, Line in the Sand, Eliminate the leader ship, Hunting party, A Quick Murder. Since we're still learning, we decided we'll just do the same schemes across the board ( I know not proper but we did this to learn how they work). Our lists we're like this

    Ten Thunders
Misaki- The Storm, Recalled Training, Conflux of Thunder
    Shang

Sensei Yu (I'm not Mi, I'm Yu.......sorry)- Wandering River Style
    Shadow Emissary
    Ten Thunders Brother

    Outcasts
    Tara
    Karina
    The NOthing Beast
    Scion of the Void
    Void Wretch x3

Short and sweet, Ten Thunders Drove the outcasts back. Misaki got pushed around a lot by Shadow Emissary and Sensei Yu while thunder brother put the hurt on whoever came near him. The Nothing beast tried scaring the brother but he wanted nothing to do with it and put a wallop on him with a big 5 points of damage. Then Misaki took a hit for 5 but activated that turn using Deadly Dance, moved to cover, and her good friend Shang moved up and healed her for 3. Turn 2, more moving, more shoosting, and more melee. Turn 3 was where it got interesting, Shadow Emissary used his ranged attack and took down the nothing beast after burning a soulstone and triggering. The misaki snuck up on Tara and delievered the killing blow. By turn 4, I was up 7 points from a Quick Murder, and Eliminate the leader ship plus 1 point from turf war after blowing a bunch of air at the enemy (and buddy not wanting NOTHING to do with emissary and misaki XD)......we called the game, shook hands, and said good game.

I hope to give more detailed reports in the future.....basically was just two noobs wrapping our heads around the ins and outs and having fun. Next match up will be a 50 Point SS Game. Same list.......with some tweeks and some additions.

  6. So Saturday a friend and I were playing a game of Turf War. We're both new, and couldn't really find it in the rule book. Misaki's assassinate gives hera + :crowwhen her cache is empty. Needless to say I was quick to empty her cache. What we were questioning is, and we probably over looked it is...... Does Misaki only have 2 soul stones that she add's, and once she burns her two soul stones.....does she then get that? or does it have to be all your SS in your cache?

Tabletop players are definitely your best bet for recruitment.  Playing games with your friend and/or having demo days when GW and PP players are there for their regular nights should get some interest, especially if your models are painted (decently, not professionally).  For demos, I like the idea of a 'Henchman softcore' game.  Teach the mechanics without overwhelming the new player with things to keep track of, and don't put a time limit on it.

Yeah that's what we've been practicing on, like this past Saturday at his place we played a Standard game of Turf War loaded with assassination rules. I wound up winning 7 to 0 only 'cause I kept pushing him off the point every chance I got and then held him back. But I digress, We'll probably set something up not on purpose soon.

Ironically, I've spent more money on Malifaux than I ever did on 40k.

The difference is, every subsequent 40k rule or codex release created a lot of purchases I had to make to stay somewhat competitive, and my earlier purchases became dust collectors. Maliifaux creates purchases I want to make because they look interesting, but I don't have to because my stuff from book 1 is still fine if I want to use it.

Exactly! I look at a lot of the older models, and granted they're metal.....I want to get them but all I can find is painted ones that basically look like they were painted with a Crayola crayon. Heck, my buddy found one that claimed Professionally painted.....he got it........it was colored with sharpies. But there is also plastic ones for factions I have no real interest in playing, like the Carrion Emissary.......I just wanna get in the worst way because of how cool it looks, and the stuff I wanna do with it.

  9. Haha I just might. Probably pick up the starterbox in the next few weeks since seems like you can't get them any other way. Right now I just wanna pick up something to store them in. Looking at the Malifaux bag. Collection kind of grew quicker then I thought it would XD

Fast goes away at the end of a model's activation. If it's on a model, Shenlong can steal it. Look up "Fast" in the rulebook.

But note! When a model activates, it first generates AP (eg. +1 from Fast), then it starts to actually use its generated AP for various actions. What this means for Shenlong is that he can't actually use Fast he steals from others, since he has already generated his AP for that activation and as explained his freshly Gained fast goes away at the end of his activation. Look up "Activation" in the rulebook.

Thanks for clearing that up Niko, lol. I'm still wrapping my head around the rules since I literally started playing 3 weeks ago and have maybe played 8 or 9 games outside the starter box.

  11. So quick question on the rule because I'm new and Shenlong is the master I use.

How exactly does it work, like explain it as if I was a 5 year old trying to learn the game.
Shenlong uses burn like fire on an opponent with fast
That model has yet to activate so he gains fast after that model activates and ends using it?
Shenlong uses burn like fire on an opponent with fast
That model has activated and used it already so therefore Shen can't gain fast and the extra ap.

So basically long as the model targeted hasn't burned that condition already......he can steal it? I guess is what I'm asking?

Do you have players that have committed to playing in the league, or are you trying to generate interest in the game by starting a league?  If you have players already interested tell the owners, show them a sign up sheet, and maybe that would convince them to carry the product.  If the league is to generate interest in the game, I'd personally say that's really ambitious.  Demo days are a better option, or playing the game at those stores to get some attention to it.

So we don't have anyone that we know of yet. So we're thinking maybe talking to the owner of the local shop and do a demo. Maybe try and build interest. I mean I've got enough miniatures in the 3 weeks I've been playing to build a few crew's and picked the game up pretty quick and so does my buddy. Show them that 2E is basically the 8th edition version of 40K. Noobie Friendly

  13. Honestly, I got into Malifaux after seeing how much MONEY I was pumping into 40K and Hordes. Plus my fascination with the hobby and a friend kind of nudging me towards this game. So looking over the crews.......I noticed Ten Thunders, and when I saw Yu, the Rush Hour 3 play on an old time skit from Abbott and Costello popped in to my head. "Whose on first?" Plus my affection for everything Bhuddha and Shao Lin.

McCabe has an upgrade that makes you disguised. That rule means no one can charge you.

Ahh ok. Makes me wanna pick him up that much more now to run this list lol

I'm a big fan of lead lined coat on the recruiter.

That actually looked like a good idea.

To be honest, I don't play 35 points very much, but I like this list.  I think throwing some disguised to the death marshalls could help their survivability quite a bit.

Disguised? Keep in mind......I'm a complete Malifaux noobie XD

  16. So, been looking into it. I wanna start a league down here in Southeastern CT, but.......problem is. Every shop owner I've talked to has said "no one plays" and they seem reluctant to stock the miniatures since no one really plays in the area. What do you guys think I should try and do? Stage my buddy and I playing games at the shops and try to build interest? Kinda at a loss for this one....and no clue what to do.

  17. So I've got a list going
    35SS
Lucas McCabe (need to get him still)
    2 Death Marshals
    Death Marshal Recruiter
    The Judge

What should I do for upgrades? and Any recommended tweeks?
