  1. One of my new year resolutions was to finish the various table projects i've accumulated and half assed over the last two years.

Yesterday i finished the second of the six table sets i own. For reasons of convenient storing and variable set up i prefer a gaming mat plus terrain pieces over a fixed construction. And as i tend more towards the painting, rather than building of things i like to buy existing MDF sets and paint them over.

I will post pictures of each table in an extra post

  2. Guild are the good guys, keeping the peace in Malifaux city. Thats their identity (and a few more stuff)

Ingame Faction identity is a bullshit concept, without benefits to actual gameplay or balancing. Given the existing modelpool and further releses it's unreasonable to differ mechanic wise. On top it's better marketing for the game to make various playstyles possible within each faction. So everybody who likes the aesthetics of a certain faction can play them, it doesn't matter if they prefer a direct damage approach, want to play board control and so on.

  3. I don't share the initial Statement. Belles weren't a problem only because of lure 8 but because they are cheap, spamable, easily summonable and very durable on top (add discard trigger). The average wp of m3e is pretty similiar to m2e, the dropped df stats are more often HP/DF/other (like trigger). Preemptive cuddling without issues during playtesting seems more like a distraction from more pressing problems.

Well, Lucius fits way more than Nytemare, Lynch and Collodi. Same as Titania. Nytemare fits because he's at least in the fluff and is important to the malifaux world. Lynch doesn't have any connection to neverborn except Hungering Darkness (which doesn't have the same interests as other neverborn) and Graves/Tannen that are basically his bodyguards/slavers.

You realize this is a completly subjective statement backed by nothing but your own Interpretation and feelings, which may differ from a vast majority of players? And that this feeling doesn't invalidate any other point of view as it isn't beeing invalidated by those either?

Well, 3 if you count Lynch. But apart from Lilith, which was removed due to fluff reasons, both Lynch and Collodi didn't really fit in neverborn. Collodi is a nice concept but fluffwise he's non-existant because he has 0 interactions with others because... why would he?

Because someone decided he wouldn't have to. Collodi could easily fill the same part nytemare had.

Could say "didn't fit in" about a bunch of Master in almost all factions. Neverborn weren't a very cohesive force. Besides the 3 Ladys everybody just did their own thing. That didn't made them any less Neverborn or prevented players to fall in love with them.

I must admit I've never quite understood that level of faction loyalty that people will only play that faction so even if the entire crew switches to a different faction they wouldn't play it. But several people seem to have it so each to their own.

It's as thedeadclaw said. For casual gaming night it doesn't matters much which faction i declare, but even there is a difference. Lets say my opponent declared TT while declare neverborn and the scemes&strategys favour a brawl in the middle. Experience says TT aren't usually a fan of damage reduction and multiple tough Models, so Lynch and friends become a favourable crew pic. Add in a few things to counter Yasunori, maybe Barabos and so on. Now i can't declare Lynch with NVB. And if i declared TT i can't add Barabos and need a different model Pool to answear various questions.

If the prerequisite is "i want to play Lynch" Faction changed doesn't matters much.

But if it is "i want to play a serious match of malifaux" the declaration of factions and specific model pics in hinsight of s&s and opponents faction matters a lot.

It isn't much a question of Faction identity (Through i am a sucker for Fluff and Love the guild).

  7. Yeah they are, as Shikome are avaiable for guild McMourning at the Moment. I would guess nobody would consider them guild models through...

I don't think staying with the M2E cross-faction distribution was considered feasible, when trying to rebalance the masters and their hiring pools.

And thats were our opinion differ i guess.

I play and played various Tabletops for 17 Years now, I am no stranger to the changing of editions and well aware there are cuts to be made. But still, i think it's reasonable for me to be a little bit upset if a few hundert bucks of models (and assembling plus painting time) drop put of the possible rooster.

And this doesn't get better just because they aren't fully useless, as i just can declare different factions, or pick a specific Master/Henchmen or buy new models. I don't yell bloody murder here or condemn wyrd and malifaux, but this change wont win my sympathy either.

    Which would have been worse?

    • You can't take Depleted any more because they're no longer in your faction.
    • You can take Depleted but you'd be stupid to do so because of the keyword tax or they're no longer good at what they used to do.
    • The theme synergy for Lynch is so great that only Lynch would want to take Depleted any more.

I'm using Depleted as the punching bag here because they're one of the models picked out as an M2E hiring pool problem--models that are too good for everyone.

Having models and being forced to use them in ways that you previously didn't have to is pretty much the way of edition changes.

Disclaimer:  Ten Thunders went from six dual faction masters to two.  I own Mei Feng, Lucas McCabe, Masaki, and Jakob Lynch crews.  All of my Mercenary and Outcast models are huddling together next to an old pair of metal Viktorias.  And I am 10 for 10 on owning the Dead Man's Hand models before the list was announced.

Pretty sure thats the first Time i heard somebody declare depleted problematic. I Think you mean Illuminated?

I am not sure whats worse, i don't think any of this options is ideal. I would have liked for Lynch and company to stay Dual Faction and just be balanced like other infaction must haves.

That's nearly as many as Marcus and Leveticus each lost access to. Just remember this list is only existing models, so there will be some new neverborn, presumably mainly Euripides based. And as you said in most cases you can still play them, you just have to announce a different faction. So really I'm not sure a player with a full M2e neverborn collection has any models they can't use at the moment, just some times you need to announce a different faction

But i never wanted to play TT. And for Events thats a pretty substantial change. And i didn't said "can't use". I said "can't use with my current Factions". Oder Course there will be new Models. And of course i most certainly will buy and paint them. That didn't invalidate the loss of access to Models.

This is "Neverborn Lynch", right? [...]

Yeah, but as a Neverborn Player its a pretty big hit. You loose infaction access to almost 20 Models (without existing crossfaction hiring options) and you get three or four in return.

I collected all native Neverborn and Guild Models. And a bunch of additional models from other faction,  i can field at the moment. With m3e i loose access to about 2 dozens model entrys (most of them beeing able to field a few copys)(given i can still field a few of those in specific corner cases) Thats not including Mercs!

I am additional "lucky" because i also have every Guild model - the faction with the second most "lost" entrys. So if i calculate them on top, there are more then 30 Models i can't reliable field anymore, if i declare one of my two factions.

Sure, i guess i have 5 or 6 factions now - but thats a weak solace.

Summoning in the guild makes me happy, but I'm not half as amused by that as the idea of dashel rummaging through dead people's pockets looking for soulstones.

Checking the belongings of convicts is standard  Guild protocol. You never know if one of those arcanist terrorist still has any bombs to endanger the brave people of malifaux.

If some soulstones are found in the process, this only reinforces the guilt of the suspect. As  SS trade is strictly regulated, one can only asume those criminals have stolen them somewhere and it's the rightful duty of Guild officials to collect them and try to hand them back to the victim later.

Given the tragic death of a heroic Guild Member, it is the sad obligation of his or her commanding officer to secure the personal belongings for the grieving family at home. Thats the minimum one can do.

You see, you couldn't be father away from the truth, insinuating Master Dashal is "rummaging" random corpses for personal gains. He's a rightfull Hero of Malifaux, carrying out his duty regardless of the myriad dangers awaiting him.

Please contact your correction officer to freshen up your knowledge on Guild Protocol and Regulations.
