I dread seeing Carver on the other end of the table.
With Opportunist and an attack bonus action, he's removing up to 3 conditions per turn from my models before even having to flip a card, and turning them into +flips for either blast attacks or effective min dmg 3 close attacks with stat 7.

Stat 7 and +flips before focus is no joke.

Terrifying and Glimpse of Insanity trigger Feed on Fears, and Draw essence doesn't require a flip from Carver.

Even at +1 out of Keyword tax, this guys hits like a truck, hits reliably, heals and, most importantly, puts holes into crews that rely on conditions for internal synergy.

As for condition removal, this is a Pandora + Carver thread, and all her crew already has Opportunist.

  2. Why on earth do people think that Pandora is squishy? She's easily more durable than Nekima or Euripides with her terrifying, her trigger makes her virtually unkillable by gunlines and small models and she has so much counterplay against ruthless beaters it's actually ridiculous. Mood swings lets you stall activations and get the rest of your crew into position (It's important to remember that Pandy is a support master, and plays like it, NOT a flying ball of death). With sorrows to hand out staggered and your tentacle aura you can reduce thing's move by 4, and push your own crew around a bit so it can defend you better. If that doesn't work (if the model in question does have a push, like riders) you could always put Inhuman Reflexes on her at the start of the game, and position her carefully so that if an enemy charges they'll be charging into a Candy/Teddy death bubble. Specifically in the rider case, she just puts stunned on the thing (no triggers, no zeros) and self loathings it a couple of times with candy. If you've played your cards right, you might even have a poltergeist there to hand out some negative flips.

And now, a list of all ruthless models: (btw I haven't played against these, this is moving into theory craft. If you have a different experience I'd love to hear it.)

    Hooded Rider

    Carver

Sebastian (let's be honest, not gonna kill Pandora.)

    Flesh Construct (nor here)

Archie (actually really annoying to deal with because of Numbskull and Leap. I would probably be attacking from afar and taking inhuman reflexes whenever I go up against ressers)

Dead Rider (we should be able to put it back in it's grave easily)

Seamus (unless they hire a second master this can't be picked against you...... He has the potential to be VERY annoying but he's also super susceptible to self loathing because of the 4/6/8 damage track)

Bone Pile (If your opponent does take a lot of little ruthless things, discourage them with your defensive trigger)

Killer Instinct (It's pretty bad, but it can't get worse than Archie.... right?)

Lenny Jones (Ya kill this the same way ya kill all the other beaters)

    Bayou Gator

Pigapult (this could actually be really annoying..... you'd have to play in a game with it though.

Inferiority Complex (this can go on anything, but you're probably good if you have butterfly jump and play carefully. Know what your opponents stuff does so you can counter it. 2SS for 2SS)

Joss (he doesn't seem like he does a whole lot of damage, so getting him slow and stunned before chipping away at him with sorrow damage and auras would probably be best)

Elijah Borgman (This guy is SUPER squishy because of his greatsword, which gives Pandy plus flips to damage... Correct me if I'm wrong)

    Mech Rider (same deal)

    Freikorpsmann (?)

Taelor (another case of Archie, maybe worse with her triggers. Seems squishy though, and doesn't get three attacks.)

Hans (This guy seems annoying in the extreme, but not too damaging. Maybe just try and weather the storm, using butterfly jump to get in and out of LoS?)

    Rasputina (Blasts anyway)

Ryle Hoffman (stunned messes this guy up pretty bad)

Mr. Graves (This guy seems like he would be like wet tissue paper to Pandy and Candy)

Ototo (with willpower four this should really not be a problem)

High River Monk (if you can pin this guy down, stunned ruins his day)

    Obsidian Oni (eh?)

    Bill Algren

Izamu (You'll have to do some serious chip damage to bring this guy down, but he's only move four)

    Sidir Alchibal

    Ruffian

    Fuhatsu (Just engage him?)

The Lone Swordsman (susceptible to stunned)

    Terracota Warrior

    Izamu's Reliquary

    High River Style.

    Warden

Agent 46 (this guy seems bad for Pandy, but I guess he's only getting two attacks. Butterfly jump and maybe some stones....)

    Pale Rider

    The Lone Marshall

    Exorcists

    Witchling Thrall

There are actually more than I expected, but most of them can be played around I think. That's at least the impression I got from some of the people who've actually played a lot games with her. Ten Thunders are your worst matchup. I'll have to test some games against them. You really need butterfly jump to keep her alive some times, so keep that in mind. It also seems like Candy and Baby Kade might be a little fragile against this stuff - especially Kade. You could even bate out there models with Pandy. I can sympathise a bit more with the people who want another defensive ability, but I think coming up against this stuff definitely isn't game breaking. It might just be something we have to learn to play around.

  3. The art is going for a Neil-Gaiman-esque graveyard book feel to me. Anyone else reminded of the Man Jack with his long thin knife? While that slightly warped, long legged, low-hanging shouldered look is awesome when 2d, the transition to miniature form feels very off to me. The cloak looks too thick, and the mask too human. The whole point of the mask is to suggest that anyone could be behind it, if it looks like a mario villain the effect doesn't really carry through. As for the pose, he looks like he's at a party where he knows no-one and has no idea what to do with his hands. Also are the knives too long? I find they look really large and clunky for a deadly assassin.

I actually really like the art, as it makes him look like he really is part of Lucius's crew. Also the new direction with more humanoid mimics is awesome, and I understand how hard it can be to capture something that's creepy because it could be anything. Maybe he looks weird because we're seeing him from the bottom, which is probably never how you're going to see him. I hope this is the case. Hate to be negative, but.........

  4. I find it a little strange to see how little effort they put into Lilith while Collodi is sitting over there with a whole new act mechanic, condition play and revamped actions.

  5. I'm a little confused.... apologies if this is really obvious, but what is the point of the Lucid Dreaming ability? Does it mean remove as in bury? Because if so, I see how this plays with the 0SS summon upgrade, you bury and unbury models across the board. But if so, why does Chompy have it? He can't be summoned by the dreamer, and unless I'm mistaken the upgrade can only be attached when a model is summoned?

Thanks so much, but I've read the dreamers card like four times now.

  6. I get why people don't like the box, and hey, more power too you, but saying Malifaux has a definite theme is kind of hard to do when the game has so many conflicting elements. It's quirky, it's funny, it's creepy, it's horrific, it's awesomely western. The only unifying trait it has, is it's grimdark nature. Even the gremlins lighthearted tone is undercut by the sinister and disturbing reality of the pigapult or the little gassers. Well, maybe not Trixibelle. But still- most of Malifaux is inherently grimdark. and what isn't grimdark about these twisted and ****ed up character from children's television? Maybe these would have been better as Neverborn, because they are very similar to the Teddy and the Dreamer's friends. I can see why people dislike the disruption of the lore that this brings however, and completely agree that the last set of stories were very lackluster.

  7. 50ss:

Kirai with Unforgiven and Swirling Aether

Datsue Ba with My Little Helper and Spirit Whispers

    Goryo

    Dead Doxy

    Crooligan

    2 x Rotten Belles

    Flesh Construct

You'll absolutely be doing public demo with this crew, but your second scheme can be any of them. Basically the whole game plan is to choke up the board with Seishin and get an insane amount of activations (this crew can be up to 13-14 activations end of turn one) so public demon becomes criminally easy. Then, because of weight of numbers, scoring the rest of your VP should be a cake-walk. There's a reason Hamelin's still in the top 5 most powerful masters.

  8. It depends on what master you're starting with, but here's a brief run down on the ones you have:

Seamus: Basically his box + maybe the graveyard spirit, Datsue Ba, a nurse and the shikome. I would look into getting Yin + Dead Doxies for him though. Jakuuna, the Flesh construct and the Dead Rider are also fine but share no immediate synergies.

Kirai: All the spirits + the flesh construct. Jakuuna also isn't particularly good, but can be included and a nurse or two couldn't hurt. Look into picking up some Goryo as well.

Nicodem: The Dead Rider, Nurses and Bete Noire work pretty well, also Punk Zombies, Mortimer and the Vulture. Sebastian's also good if you go the mindless zombie rout. You can also consider Kentauri as an amazing new summon and Asura Rotten. Be warned: Nicodem is one of the top two masters in the game right now with his insane card draw potential and hordes of summons - either him or the Kentauri are going to be nerfed soon.

McMourning: Nurses, Flesh Constructs and the Chihuahua + Shikome and Sebastian. Bete Noire and the Dead Rider are both fine. I would look into some Canine Remains for the good doctor, and perhaps another flesh construct so he has enough summons.

Also Rotten Belles. They are amazing with every master. You should look into getting some scheme runners, but for now if you really need one the carrion effigy does a perfectly good job.

Hope this has helped, and welcome to Ressurs!

Surely the model with the biggest target on their back is Asura Roten.  She instantly became a staple in almost every Resser list because she does so much that she basically feels like having a second master on the field.

Summoning free zombies without a flip, forcing WP checks just for activating, giving all your weaker models a decent attack AND Hands From Below?

I love using Asura, but daaaaayumn thats a lot of value for 8 stones.

I don't find her to be a problem in my non-Nico games, and with Nico it'd probably be better to nerf the card draw engine (Sebestian, Philip and the Nanny).

  10. Hi Fauxers, I noticed a little bit of a phenomenon recently when reading trough AWP and the forums. Now, many of you have undoubtedly already noticed this, but I get the feeling that with all the talk of Nicodeep and the July errata, people continue to try to find conclusive evidence to win the power balance argument one way or another, when such evidence, in my opinion, simply does not exist. So, I'm here to ask a question: are the most talented players in Malifaux right? While Sandeep and Nico undoubtedly need nerfing, have we discovered all there is to know about GG18 + all the models in the game? I'm of the opinion that no, we have not. With the recent Seamus resurgence, the Somer/Warpig thing and the Neverborn Serena shenanigans, all of which have (as far as I know) not been conclusively tested, could the Brewmaster secretly be Mid/High tier? Could Jakob Lynch be a disaster waiting to happen? Could Parker Barrows be the next great Collodi? But alas, I, like you, am only mortal, and so I ask you: do we know everything there is to know? Either way, looking forward to 2.5.

Hired vs summoned is the important part. Although I suppose both tots and gupps could be summon ed, but the changling summoning is easiest and least crew distorting.

Really? A spawn mother + wisp can be fitted into most crews.

    Tested yesterday:

    Declared Faction: Neverborn
Crew Name: Open the Box 50ss
    Leader: Pandora - Cache:(3)
       Fears Given Form 1ss
       Rile Them Up 2ss
       Woe is Me 2ss
    Doppleganger 7ss
    Mysterious Emissary 10ss
       Conflux of Sorrow 0ss
    Serena Bowman 7ss
       A Thousand Faces 1ss
    Bloodwretch 5ss
    Beckoner 6ss
       Warped Reality 1ss
    Insidious Madness 5ss

The main thing is a "Pandorapult" engine that consists of:
    - placing Beckoner wia FtS within 4 of Dora, and use her lure tricks to move her 8"
    - killing Serena Bowman to make Dora do her Incite wia Rile Them Up
    - polish it with the regular Incite.

With this, we can possibly move Dora up to 24" without spending any of her AP.

2nd part of a crew is my regular card-cycling engine, which gives Dora resourses she needs.

At last - Insidious Madness for a scheme-run and little support.

After a test game I came to conclusion that IM should be replaced with Mr. Tannen.

Another way to cycle cards, except you get more cards: With the Emissary and Widow weaver you can copy the weaver's whenever a model within 6" fails a horror duel. Then, you shoot Serena bowman to death with changelings and a widow weaver, cheating down the horror duels so she fails. Each time she does, you'll draw two cards. When she dies, Pandora wile get her Incite, and the rest of the cycle continues. Only downside is that you'll have to replace the insidious madness, doppleganger and bloodwretch with a widow weaver and two changelings, but the rest of the crew works just fine. Be aware that this has a fair amount of variability in it, black jokers, red jokers etc; but you should be able to smooth this over by having models nearby to kill Serena if she manages to survive.

  13. Dogs and guard. Corrupted hounds can kill most things with a plus flip to attack and damage, guardsman are incredibly survivable and guild hounds can be useful for their one action charge. As for retinue slots, Neverborn have enough good 6ss+ minions that Austringers are fat from an auto-include. Also, take some more expensive models than Lucius. With all those cards in hand, even if he's not supporting them they can wreak havoc across the board. Barbaros is one of my favourites in interact heavy pools because of his ability to push enemy models around and his nimble walk, not to mention having his challenge at the ready to support your weaker minions.

  14. Our group is small but dedicated, trying to play at least twice a week. We focus on playing the game well, not caring much if we win or lose, and thus end up playing and experimenting with a lot of different masters and scheme pools. As a result we think a lot about our game play and play well when allowed to spend time thinking but have little experience with tournaments.
