I don't recall any playstyle being stopped by an errata. ( except the extreme lucid dreams where you tried to remove all weak and moderates from your deck  and I'm not sure that was a valid play style anyway, more just a possibility).

Adding titles doesn't prevent any of the pre-title stuff from still working.

damn. that would have been right up my alley. I know he could do it before I stopped playing (because I remember reading about the hypothetically-best outcome, and was looking at picking up the pieces needed), but didn't know he changed. A bunch of cards aren't loading in my app, so I can't see how they changed it...

Sandeep summoning toolbox minions also is effected by summons not being able to score schemes

wow, that seems like a big hit to him (and dedicated summoners in general)

Goonhammer is currently doing an introduction to the titles. So far they've done Guild & Ressers.

    Dunno if that helps

    helps enough! Thanks

Are there any specific Masters or even factions that you're interested in?

I would disagree with this to a certain extent. A lot of the changes between original and title masters impact the way the keywords play a reasonable amount. For example, Dreamer 2 not being able to summon changes the way you have to play the keyword quite a lot.  The changes might mean you have to hire different models than you otherwise would, which impacts how a keyword plays quite a lot. Another example being Jedza. Her title forces less of a requirement on bubbling so you can play more of an effective, spread out game with Seeker than Jedza 1 would allow.

On topic, have you looked at some of the tier list videos on youtube that are going up at the moment Farmoar? They tend to have competitive players going over both the original and title masters in detail, so can give a reasonable (if opinionated) insight into how they might want to play and the differences.

I played before Explorer's Society was fully fleshed out. Liked the idea behind Dreamer's ability to thin your own deck, Nekima's kill potential, Seamus and Yan Lo playing with powerful in and out-of-keyword strong models, respectively, and Sandeep's ability to summon toolbox minons.

Not sure how many of those playstyles still exist after the changes/titles/errata though...

I don't think anyone has put that together. There are several tactica where they have looked at the differences between the original and the title, but just one master at a time.

I don't think there is any common ground to tie in the comparison across multiple masters, so it probably makes most sense to just write them one master at a time.

Rage Quit Wire I think did a two episode breakdown of all the originals and titles, but with the heavy disclaimer that they didn't have any experience with a good chunk of titles at time of recording so they're not necessarily all spot-on takes.

dang. was hoping there would at least be "playstyles" listed somewhere. that's a shame

I think the relenting discussion is vague enough to warrant an FAQ- I see FWJ’s point, and I would prefer it function in that vein, but I think it the wording on it all could lead the to Plaag’s reading. It seems like relenting a duel that your opponent is flipping for shouldn’t be a thing, honestly.

They should just do a FAQ after each major release and take the time to address all corner cases they know of (see what WotC do after the release of each set)... Having so many corner cases and no official answer from the actual company that make the game is ridiculous and can be infuriating for tournament players.

This is even more needed because wyrd is not particularly tight in his wordings and templating...

After a year of playing this (amazing) game this is by far my biggest complaint.

yup. too bad we have to wait until GG2 for that to be updated...

  5. I guess I am just disappointed that they are such an NPE. I was looking to get back into Malifaux with the Explorers Society, specifically 3 Masters:
Lord Cooper - neat idea, big damage gun, big-ass dinosaur
    Jedza - amazing looking models
Nexus - love the hivemind idea

and now the Surveyors are hidden in another core box, and Cadmus is an NPE. Great for top-level play, but terrible for anything under that.

also, just looking at the cards, you can tell Cadmus is at least S-tier (normal Dreamer, Von Schtook, Colette, etc level). but when you put some of the other abilities they can get (Flush With Cash and some out of keyword models) they quickly jump above S-tier

Everyone calls Bete Noire trash, but one player recommending her made her a staple of my Reva crew. Same goes for grave golem - everyone thought it a bad model, but someone dissented and now a lot of Reva players play Grave Golem.

sounds like the Reva rework helped multiple models lol. or that Bete was given the wrong keyword

that would be kind of interesting as a broader crew building change- I would probably suggest scaling it so the first OOK model was +1, the second was +2, etc or just limit it to only allowing a certain number of OOK models per crew including versatile models.....maybe something like every 15 SS of crew selection enables you to take 1 OOK or versatile model so that in a standard 50 SS game you could potentially have 3 which could be a combination of OOK or versatile. This in conjunction with scaling costs on them would make the decisions harder. The only down side is there are currently some keywords that really need the OOK and versatile help and until they flush out some of the keywords a little more (which could result in too much bloat as well) they are going to need the help from the versatile and OOK selections.

I do like the variety but although I only played the last year and a half or two years of M2E felt like a lot of the copy/pasta was the result of echo chamber and group think not purely playability or not....

Thank you for bringing up the echo chamber. ive been saying it for a while, but was laughed at for it

I'll have to try them again! Didn't notice the 24" patient strike possibility. At 14" it was pretty underwhelming. I guess my other problem (besides being super new) is that I was playing a 30 stone game against an extremely fast McCabe crew who just rushed me immediately.

Plus I love their models so that alone means they deserve another shot.

Yeah, dont play under 50 SS games. Stuff will seem under/over powered, and could end up in just making you a worse player because of those incorrect thoughts on models

They used to have those "official rules lawyers" but decided that it's better that people don't have official answers before eventual FAQs rather than them having to comb the rules forums for official answers.

Easy enough solution; make an official Wyrd Rules Lawyer account, and that account only posts answers to rules questions. then you dont need to comb through forums, you just need to look at that account's posts...

When a model takes a Walk action it moves, it's not moved by itself. When a model is affected by Lure - it's moved by model with Lure. And model with Lure moves the target :)

I mean we can continue that for a long time, really, but I'm sure you got my point:

    • Move yourself with you own will - "move"
    • Forced to move by others - "be moved"

I'm not saying that everyone have to agree though. Would love to see some arguments since it's only one we have before next FAQ (I hope)

this is the kind of thing that Wyrd needs to have "Rules Lawyer" on payroll. Obviously they meant it one way or the other, so just have an official account that says "this rule works like this", and be done with it until the next Errata. there is no need to wait a year to find out the game works a certain way, and have all the players playing it incorrectly in the meantime.

and then whent he Errats and FAQ come out, it gets addressed there as well. but dont hoard all of these answers for the FAQ; youll just end up upsetting your playerbase

Thats not what i said.  i said cant use JUST vassel to shout that things need nerfed.

With a few of the games above it seems that both players knew what the opponent would be using and tailored their lists accordingly which can heavily skew the stats.

    lol, good luck

Its still extremely early to be talking about balances.  Majority (likely all) of the data is coming from Vassel that although has players from all over the world there are still many top rated players worldwide that have not set foot into it. Wait until the world opens up again and allows tabletop games before shouting "nerf"

ooo, bad call man. never say that vassal doesnt count for anything. even if you may have a good point lol

I can't help but feel like nephilim was a poor choice going into cadmus.

this isnt the first time people have said something like this. seems like you are forgetting one of the core concepts to Mlaifaux is that you declare Faction and THEN Master, AT THE SAME TIME. what the 2 authors are saying is that it is a horrible matchup of Nephilim into Cadmus. You dont get to know they are playing Cadmus until you have already declared your faction, and then reveal masters at the same time.
what people need to be looking at is how many masters Cadmus invalidates entirely. if there are too many of those, then there is a problem, as bringing any of those masters into a game against ES could mean an instant loss. can you have silver bullets to certain abilities of crews, sure. but you cant make a majority of master choices subpar-to-unplayable

True, it in itself is not the problem, but if I am right, it's at least one less tool they have. (I think it might have been a discussion on taking 2 terrified tests and why I don't think the rules support it, but I can't remember exactly, and there were conflicting views)

Def 7 and Take the hit is a very tough combination. It does force you to be very compact around the emissary to keep the take the hit up (IT doesn't stop you moving the crew up, but you need to do it carefully to ensure that its kept up every activation or Seamus can strike at the right time).

I think it was pass a Terrifying check, then a model Takes the Hit or uses Protected, and whether or not there is another Terrifying check, but I could also be misremembering

Ah okay. My dreams of a huge Stompy Bot army are slightly dented. But at least that will help me keep my bank account happy.

you would think that, but it will actually make your bank account sad. its rare that you run the full amount of a minion, even though you will get the full amount in a box (some exceptions apply). so you may end up spending more money on different units, and end up with the second or third Hunter that collects dust
