  1. Since GG 18 is in the works, perhaps that's why the Rider was seen as an emergency fix? I wonder if some interaction with its scheme dropping was a pain in the new schemes, and tweaking its summon was something that they added since they were already changing the card.

  2. McCabe with Yasunori is seen by many as pushing the limits of NPE, and both of the previous masters you bought were errated. I was suggesting your luck would hold long enough to get Yasunori cuddled as well, and jokingly offered to pay for it to happen.

I also agree with Adran, springing an errata like that is not cool. Mention it when the Rider is first hired, or wait until the game ends to bring it up.

On one hand, I guess that means I'm not seeing the Rougarou in a couple weeks.  Extra sad as the models looked great on display at adepticon.  That being said, this does seem like it would be better overall for the LGS' and that is not a bad thing.  I do hope gencon webstore will continue to have the same pre-release offerings as the actual con has, so no one if left out of the opportunity.  I do imagine there will be some griping though, when something doesn't really come out until like 6 months past then, and thus some people are left out during that gap.

Actually my biggest worry is that it will be now even harder to hit something like spend $300 to get the alt model, I know a lot of people tended to pick up the pre-release models in the sales particularly to hit that number, as it is likely they have most or all of what they need that is already out.

Rougarou are already released, I just got mine to go along with Titania.

  4. Maybe Hot4Perdita should parlay his new-found skills into a business opportunity.

I'll pay $100 US plus the cost of the models if you buy McCabe and Yasunori and give it Recalled Training sometime around December :D

    Maybe start Sandeep as well.

It's all personal experience, I guess.

For me neither Drowned nor Hanged have served any particular role on the table.

Hanged are control pieces, but Nurses and Jack himself do it better. Hanged's wound-halving attack isn't doing much against armored targets and suboptimal against any model with less than 9 Wd.

Drowned are objective-holders, but Johan does the same for same cost, while Guilty do the same for less.

Then again, I'm not pretending to deliver universal wisdom, it's just how they work for me in my meta and with my playstyle.

Hanged force tons of Horror Tests, something which Jack and Nurses don't have, and the trigger on Whispers From beyond shuts down crews with lots of healing. Whispers isn't their only attack as well.

I would rather have Crooked Men for scheming and holding stuff, they can also paralyse and punish enemies who mess with your Scheme markers. The Drowned I bring for their hazardous terrain shenanigans, a lot of my tables have some, and they help support Jaakuna as well.

  6. I'd argue his thematic crew is anything that's Tormented. Which have the following Wp:

    7 - Jack Daw, Hanged

    6 - Drowned, Crooked Men

    5 - Jaakuna, The Seven

4 - Nurses,  Papa, Guilty, Montresor, Ligeia

So I wouldn't say all of his thematic crew have low Wp, just about half of them. If the issue is Jaakuna and the Drowned, then they have average to good Wp.

To help you Levi players out there, Jack's thematic crew all have low Wp, so a Levi with Desolate Soul can have very favourable trades of turning Jaakuna Ubume or Guilty into Abominations.

Not to disagree with any of the other points, but aren't Hanged Wp 7? Or were you just referring to the boxed set models?

  8. I agree they could both be good in a Viktoria crew, I'm just not sure they'd be on the top of the list when I was picking models. I think I'd put Hannah higher, with her action copying and Void Record. Or Sue for card draw. There isn't a huge Malifaux scene near me atm, so I don't play against nearly as many different masters as I'd like; that certainly atfects my views.

Lately I've been trying a split Viktorias idea, sending Ashes and Blood down opposite sides with a Ronin or similar. I felt like I was relying on Sisters in Spirit a lot, and saw some Lilith advice to pretend her greatsword didn't exist, and play a few games that way. So I thought, why not put Synchronised Slaying back in the box and see what happens?

  9. I don't know if I'm sold on Lazarus or Ashes and Dust with the Viktorias yet. Sure they're awesome, and if you brought Vanessa she can command them, but they're beatsticks and any Viktoria crew already has two. I think getting some utility would be better.

Convict Gunslingers should be nice, I think Howling Wolf Tattoo affects Rapid Fire as well.  Any of the Outcast Enforcers should be good. Big Jake is a neat schemer, Sue has card draw and can mess with casters, Hans has ranged attacks that the Viktorias lack.

My Student has killed enough enemy Minions that I won't leave her out. Especially when I pulled off a full four Sister Dragon's Bite/Flight of Dragons on Lucius. Life goal achieved.

  10. If you're struggling with activations, how big of a Soulstone pool are you bringing?

I've been running Taelor, Vanessa, Student, and three Ronin (two once I get Big Jake) and I haven't been feeling awful, but I never have more than four stones in the pool to begin. I found all I used them for was prevention when a Vim would take 3+ wounds. Any extras I need come from Ronin (and eventually the Effigy).

  11. I'd add either Vanessa or a Freikorps Librarian for healing as a must-buy. My preference is Vanessa, she can have the Howling Wolf Tattoo and gets to use the Sister buffs from Ashes and Blood. The Malifaux Child is popular from what I've seen, but I prefer the Student for theme.

My experience with the Viktorias so far is 'upgrade the Viktorias, then hire whatever good models you want.' Their key mechanics only affect themselves, the Student, and Vanessa, so once you have the core group of Sisters everything else is mostly on its own. The Sisters don't have much to hand out in support, and what they do have is limited to Mercenaries, though pretty much everything in Outcasts is one.

I've found Ronin to be competent schemers, and Taelor is amazing, especially against summoners. Outcasts have plenty of amazing Enforcers and Henchmen, and I don't think any of them would be terrible with the Sisters. Special mention goes to Sue, for simply being excellent, and Big Jake, for being a fun schemer with a turn 5 surprise.

  12. I was looking at adding Big Jake into my Viktorias lists. He's cheaper than a Ronin, very schemey, and pops up on turn 5 for some last-minute shenanigans.

From what I've seen with the Viktorias, the lists are  generally Ashes and Blood, Child/Student, maybe Vanessa or Librarian, and then just whatever else seems good. The Viktorias don't use any keywords other than Sister and possibly Mercenary depending on upgrades, so they don't care as much about the crew. Compare to Jack Daw or Colette, who encourage packing a list full of certain models.

I'm not the most experienced player by far, but most of my games with Viktoria see Ashes and Blood murder key enemy models, while the rest of the crew does their own thing dropping markers or getting in position for scoring.

  13. Do you really want to spend three of your four Guardsmen slots on Guild Hounds when Corrupted Hounds are already in-faction? Sure, Corrupted Hounds can't charge as a (1), but they get A New Master for :+fate to all duels off-activation, which is great with all the commands Lucius can give out. They also have Black Blood, so they're cheap targets for Black Blood Pustule if you brought a Shaman.

Lucius can use Devils deal when he

    1) spends a soulstone for a suit

    2) spends a ss for a :+fate to attack

    3) spends a ss for a :+fate to defense and a :-fate to damage

    4) spends a ss for damage prevention.

Those are how he uses them.  Using them for anything else or another Henchmen will not trigger Devils Deal

    5) If you were silly enough to take the Thalarion Stone upgrade.
