  1. The smoke bomb part never really occurred to me. Definitely a plus if I took S&S.

As for Disguise, it is something I generally don't take.  Many just a style thing I guess. Though with the new errata it certainly has more appeal.

Hidden Agenda on the right target is a hell of an upgrade.  To be able to give all Oiran with in LoS focused and fast.  I'm certainly going to utilize the extra AP to finish off Misaki's target, Provide cover for Misaki's early activation, and engage new possibile targets.  The focus just adds to the possibility of success.

The lure is in all fact of the matter an after thought not a focus.  It could have its placed against low WP minions.

  2. Hello again my dear Ten Thunder Brothers,

I have yet again another ponderance to put to the masses.

Your opinions always interest me and I promise not to call you mama fat if we disagree.

That being said what do people think about the use of Misaki having the Hidden Agenda Upgrade and having  multiple Oiran in LoS?

Misaki and Oiran have the same movement stats so they can keep up with each other.

Oiran can use Disguise to block charging lanes towards Misaki while not being charged themselves.

Lure could be used to draw targets nearer.

If any one is going to score a hit it is Misaki.

Misaki Driving Charge works great with other model cover her defensively.

After scoring a hit who wouldn't benefit from having anywhere from 1 to 3 models possibly more each having fast and focused for the round.

I know from experience Misaki can score a hit each round with the right positioning.

Of course Sensei Yu will be around for  double pushes. But then isn't he ever not around?!

So let me know what you think?

What could be better? Who else could better? What else would work well in this combo?

  3. Hope you find that model.

The actual vintage model or the plastic?  Because I want either myself.

With Masaki's box you don't get anything thing you absolutely need but are nice to have.

Shangs Rush of Magic is always good. There are better heals for Masaki from other models.

Ototo is a situational beater and has some decent abilities. But he isn't a survivor.  Framed for Murder comes to mind.

The Torakage are jack of all trades models. They can do it all , nothing too well though and not reliably. But a 6" walk is always good running.

I dont understand the S&S hate it was a relevant part of my  gameplan in several games in 2016.

Most noteably with Misaki Jorogumos and when occupy was in the pool.

I collected masks with rush etc . Jorogumo are tanky enough to still fight and tank in that time.

Tannen tends to fit in this kind of crew anyway also a solid hidden agwnda carrier if you wanna try oiran.

Than one turn firat activations suddenly the joro go puff... misaki dives whereever she wants. Joro pops out ... usually was a great scheme ^^

Yeah I don't understand it either.

It can be unreliabile, without the proper cards  you had better have a backup plan. If it works out though it has multiple uses for all schemes and strata.

Just being able to place a model or models deep at the end of turn one can change alot for schemes and strata.

6" inches for a friendly model is good especially with Snipers on the board.

If you get two models buried then you can stretch the distance to 12" by placing your first model  then using it as the friendly model to place the second.

I not planning on a getting a Tennent model any time soon.  Not for the +2crow.

Misaki is my obvious target for the Oiran's Hidden Agenda.

Get Masaki out clubbing seals early round then have the Oiran clean up the leftovers or run interference to prevent Masaki from becoming targeted or taking serious damage.

Not being able to charge Oiran is well put to use.  Also with 3 AP they are going to be able to do what you need.

S&S or not. I'm going to try it out.

I'm also going to try the Jorogumo and Masaki with Misdirection combo.

Again powerful enough to enhance what Masaki already does and spending the extra SS to attach S&S well that is just gravy if it works.

I'm sure I will post results favorable or not but it is worth a try.

Can you chain the placements of the models at the end of the turn? For example 2 Jorogumo successfully bury themselves, at the end of the turn they place within 6" of a friendly model (lets say a Katanaka Sniper in the enemy half) Can you place the first Jorogumo within 6" of the sniper, then the second Joro within 6" of the first Joro?

Now that is a great question!

I cannot reason an argument against it.

If anyone else does speak up

That certainly increases the depth of infiltration and increases the value of S&S. IF you could get two or more strides off per turn.

  6. The Jorogumo ,Masaki ,Misdirection  combo is pretty darn good with or with out S&S.

I agree that it is unreliable.  If the expectation is to teleport multiple models every round that isn't possible. But using S&S to have a single first turn teleport like  Jorogumo then utilize it in the later round for dropping markers and repostitioning makes me want to try.

If S&S is not reliable enough to field for scheme running and strategies not combat  oriented as TT (Masaki or She long) then what is?

    Thanks for all the responses.

  7. I totally understand that the concept of difficult to execute but there are some fail saves incase the S&S doesn't play out in the cards.

Masaki and the Oiran will be tag teaming with or with out S&S. Hidden Agenda and Stalking B on Masaki with Oiran playing front line defence. Oiran can't be charged and Masaki Driving charge sounds like a decent strategy to me. And if the chance arises I could S&S them else where.

The Jorogumo is definately the main piece for S&S. And I would want it first turn.

The Torakage are also good candidates but to a lesser degree.

And finally. All minions are Poison dealers to work with Shadow Emmesaries Dragons Breath.

Guild Pathfinder sounds cool and I do like the Traps.  Seems like a good control piece. And a good friendly model to Unbury from.

Though I thought maybe of using a Katanaka Sniper instead of a Torakage.

So IF I'm going to take the S&S I'm going to have the most Models possible to use it.

It is thematic and most likely not competitive but I want to give it a try.

  8. I want to build  a crew around the Last Blossom upgrade Smoke and Shadows.  Focused on scheme running and objective based strategies.

    Any Suggestions would be appreciated.

Currently the Oiran are on order and I just recieved a Jorogumo from a very generous friend.

So this is a build I'm considering. High Mobility from S&S and additional poison damage from Shadow Emmesary.

Masaki w/ Stalking Besento, Recalled Training, Hidden Agenda.

    Shadow Emmesary w/Thunder Conflux.

    Jorogumo

    3 Oiran

    2 Tokarage

  9. Thanks for all the responses. Im glad that this thread is continuing. The advise is greatly appreciated.

I have moved away from dry bryshing more heavily and am appling multiple washes.

Washes were mixed lighter with white and darked with a comparable darker shade. Matte black is to hard to control .

I'm now using extender medium to create washes which is sucessful.

Personally I thought the energy wave of Ototo was poorly done. So in finishing the based I incorporated into the terrain.

I felt the same about Masaki's engery foot swish.

I don't have the skill to pull off the look properly nor have I seen it done well. With the exception of one expectional professional.

I will post photos of my crew some time soon.

I know that there are alot of improvements to be made but that is all a part of the journey.

One more thing I suggest to new players who are struggling against a certain opponent is to swap crews with them for a game or 2 this way it gives you a chance to see the strengths and limitations of what they are running and also gives you a chance to see what they do in the driving seat with your crew as they might just spot a synergy or play style you haven't.

Yeah she doesn't like my TTs crew so maybe I will run her crew at the shop against someone else. To be honest I'm starting to understand how to use Maski myself.

  11. Hey Folks,

Just ordered my second crew box to continue to fill out my Ten Thunders Faction.

    Currently I have ;

    Maski Crew Box;

        Maski

        Ototo

        3 Torkage

        Shang

    3 Tengu

    2 Katanaka Snipers

    Shadow Effigy

2 Ten Thunder Brothers (Thanks Greg!)

    Generalist Upgrade Pack 2

    What I recieving in the very near future is;

    Shen Long Crew Box

      Shen Long

      Sensei Yu

      3 Monks of High River

      2 Peasants

    Dawn Serpent

    Generalist Upgrade Pack 1

What are some good build ideas?

Or some possible character combos using what I currently have and ordered.

Outside of simplifed learning to play games I haven't played alot.  So some good advice woukd be appreciated.

I lost a few games to new player mistakes but have generally managed a close game with reasonably sucessful strategies.

    What would you build?

  12. I finished painting Ototo today and am still planning on making him a large part of my crew.

Any suggested upgrades or combos I should be aware of?

I only have upgrade cards from the Crew box an no inatment knowledge of Malifaux.  I know there are upgrade cards sets but want should I be looking for.

As for combos I bought Tengus just because and I have been thinking of running a Ototo/Tengu regeneration combo.  Nothing fancy but it is what I got.

Have any other suggestion for this Tetsubo welding gaint?

  13. Compliments, critiques and commentary all welcome.

Haven't painted in 18 years so take is easy on me.

After having an ink issue with my Torkarage miniatures, mainly discolouring, I decided to paint Ototo differentially.

I preassembled Ototo,  I retrospect a bad idea. Used mixed washes with base colour and black. Dry brushed  back to base colour and highlights mixed with white.

I wanted Ototo to have a Kabuki theater feel so I wanted multiple colours and attempted a Kubuki style mask.

I give myself a solid 7 out of 10. Im still a sloppy and impatient hobbist. I should learn to slow down.

Will finish the base once I have sand. Will make it look like lime stone rock sand with grass tufts.

    Thanks for the look.

  14. Yes there has been some great advise from everybody.

I returned to modeling after 18 years. Wyrd is not failing to deliver on challenging and dynamic miniatures.

I don't have a budget per say. I just don't want an astronomically high investment cost. I have plenty of other hobbies.

As for collecting I'm not the only one involved. My partner also enjoys modeling and painting.

Currently we are both on our first crews.  She will build and paint want she thinks is aesthetically cool.  Game play isn't a huge concern.

I however want to body a soild crew. Currently looks like Ten Thunders and Outcast based.

My local store has snipers, archers and samurai and the effigy. Also the 10T robot dogs.

As the advise said Im thinking snipers or archers first.  I do lack long range fire.

    Thanks for the advise everyone.

    Take care

  15. So choosing to return to table top gaming and Malifaux was a thoughful decision.

However the purshase of my first crew and  support box not so much.

I picked up Misaki crew and a box of Tengus. I have always loved the mythology of Tengus and the Ototo model if utterly fantastic.

All Oriental culture in general is of interest to me so Ten Thunders is a great aesthetic choice with the Outcasts a close second.

That being said I have no game play experince and am wondering what models should I be looking to purshase next and for what reasons.

I am not highly compeitive but enjoy providing good competetion.

So any crew building suggestion and advise is completely welcome.  Please explain in layman terms. I don't fully grasp the lingo.

I fully intend on using Ototo as much as possible but will not completely restrict myself to it.

Thanks for your time and look forward to your respone.
