  1. I just consider the Mastermind ability as a nice bonus and do not build my crew around it. Taking models which will be good in the game will allways be better than taking worse models in order to possibly gain some extra card draw. Especially since Lucius will have quite a lot of card draw anyway. In fact, when I have pass tokens I usually save them for the next initiative flip anyway, unless I really need better cards (or can gain a significant advantage from delaying an activation).

    And I think that Agent 46 is still absolutely worth taking. He was insane before, but is still a really good model. But of course it depends on the purpose in a list. If copying a specific attack was the main reason for getting the Agent, a Doppelganger might be better now.

  2. It depends on the deployment and how aggressive my opponent is. If my opponent rushes some model up the field she is an ideal counter-punch. But if my opponent is more defensive I usually do not charge ahead of the rest of my crew just to get a single attack in. In that case I'd rather hide her somewhere and focus. Leap and 2" range means she can threaten a quite large area even from behind a building. If I can get two or more attacks from her by rushing ahead... maybe. 

    But overall I like a more defensive playstyle in Malifaux, so I may be overly cautious.

  3. The Hooded rider's Greatsword attack has a trigger called Wide Swing. It says the following:

    When resolving, for each :maskin this Action's final duel total the target suffers +:blastdamage. Blast Markers Dropped by this Action must be within 2" and LoS of this model.

    My question is: Does the second sentence replace the normal rules for dropping blast markers, or does it apply in addition to them? For example, if I get one Blast marker, do I need to drop it in base contact with the target or can I drop it anywhere within 2" and LoS? The wording seems to imply that it is in addition to the normal restrictions, but it's not entirely clear in my opinion.

    The base is pieces of plasticard and sand. I wanted to do a variation of my standard cobblestone bases where it looked more like it was breaking apart and nature was starting to reclaim it.

    More than weakness, some models look directly useless (sanctioned spellcaster, thallarian queller) since they're not Witchling.

    I honestly think Sanctioned spellcasters are quite good for their cost. A scheme runner which is fast on the first turn, has Shielded 1 and a ranged attack with blast and automatic burning is better than many other 4 SS models.

    Thallarian Queller on the other hand is completely useless IMHO. It's a slightly worse Sanctioned spellcaster that costs 2 SS more for some reason. And some of its abilities are just really strange. That model needs to be reworked from scratch.

    I was posting most of my photos to A Wyrd Place as I'm one of the mods over there and these forums don't get along well with my phone. I'll see if I can get a few more photos from my phone onto these forums in a bit, but figured the breakdown of masters and matchups is what people mostly wanted.

    Were there no Guild players at all?

    How well Inspiring Swordplay functions is very much tied to playstyle. I think it is good that she gets some kind of bonus for being closer to her crew, as it is very tempting to use her like a cruise missile. For me Inspiring Swordplay tends to work on some of her kills, but of course not all of them. But I do favour a more defensive playstyle.

  8. How does "Following orders" work with disengage?

    The "Following orders" ability says:

    Quote

    ...After this model resolves an Action taken outside its Activation, generated by a model with Cost higher than it, this model may draw a card.

    The general Action "Disengage" says:

    Quote

    ...One enemy model engaging this model (opponent’s choice) may take a :meleeAction targeting this model;...

    Lets say that Teddy (Cost 10) is engaged by a Guild Lawyer (Cost 6). Teddy takes the Disengage action and the Lawyer chooses to take a :meleeaction. Can the Lawyer draw a card from Following orders? From the wording, it actually sounds like he can.

    As a sidenote to this, one potential problem is that there is an older Swedish measurment which is often called the same word in Swedish as the translation of an inch. This older measurement is 24,742 mm (compared to 25,4 mm of an inch). However, this is not much of a problem today, as most measuring tapes in Sweden have actual inches nowadays.

  10. Good to see more video battle reports!

    However, in my opinion, the commentary was a bit too spoiler heavy as you constantly talked about things that happened or didn't happen in later turns or how effective or ineffective certain models or abilities were in the game as a whole. From the comments alone it was pretty obvious what the outcome of the game would be by early turn 2, which unfortunately made it less exciting to watch.

    I personally think that trigger is OK the way it is, since you can make models count as Undead. However, an interesting change would be that undead models gain Adversary (like it is now) and other models count as being Undead until the end of the turn. That way it would only be fully effective against undead, but at least do something against other models, like Morgan Vening suggested.

  12. In my opinion, both Lady J and Lucius works quite well.

    Marshals are generally quite tanky. The Lone Marshal can move up on one flank. He is hard to tie down and on turn 2 he can usually move, shoot and place a marker. Lady J and Judge can place markers late game, when they have killed any enemies close to them. It can fell bad to "waste" their AP on planting explosives but many enemies do not really want to mess with them and they are hard to take down. The Jury can help other models plant their explosives with Obey, allowing them to do it on their third action.

    Lucius is not so much about specific models, but the crews ability to move models around and "redistribute" AP to where they are needed means most models can both plant explosives and threaten the enemy explosives. They can suffer a little bit from wanting to form a bubble, though.

    But these are just my observations from a casual perspective, so I'm not sure if they work in a more competative environment.

    I previously saw it as simply being an Aura. But looking more closely at it, is seems to have two different parts. When checking for markes which activates the ability it says "...is Dropped within :aura4". Clearly an Aura. You need line of sight to the Marker and other rules about Auras apply. However, the part about movement is worded differently. It says "...this model may Push a model within 3" of the Marker up to 3" away from it". It does not say "Push a model within :aura3". In all other instances, there is a clear difference between "...within X"..." and "...within :auraX"...". And I don't really see why this should not apply here as well. So I would say that the movement part is not an Aura, which means there is no need for line of sight and other Aura rules do not apply.

    But I'm open to arguments why it should be considered an Aura despite not having the :auraicon. I may have misunderstood.

    Stand Back... is an Aura when checking for dropped markers, but it is not an Aura when moving models. So the rules for multiple Auras with the same name would not apply. I previously thought it was an Aura when moving models as well.

  16. Guild investigators can provide some nice pushes. It will usually require one model to sacrifice an action in order to lay down a scheme marker, but it allows you to move a more important model and do some tricks to get out of engagement and auras. It can also be worth to note that two Investigators can both use Stand back... on one dropped marker as long as they target different models. And then you are turning one action into two pushes. And with False Witnesses one action can become four pushes. And some card draw.

  17. The Thallarian Queller is really high on my list of what needs fixing. Currently it does not add anything to the crew. It's just an overcosted Sanctioned spellcaster. It is one of the few models that I would never consider taking.

    And I honestly think that the Austringer is fine at 7 stones. But I might be biased, because last time I killed one the board was suddenly filled with three trained raptors which not only killed my model who had killed the Austringer, but also removed my Corpse markers for Dig their graves...
