  1.

Some really great reports in there; I like your style.  The pictures are also very helpful in following the action.

Now that your error with the summoned Piglets in turn 1 has been pointed out, what do you plan to do for with Ulix's AP to start games off now?

Thanks! I'll try and keep them coming :)

I might stick to summoning - or trying to summon - three Piglets. They can't drop a Scheme Marker on the turn they are summoned, but that doesn't stop them doing it at the start of their Turn 2 activations, although this means they won't be quite as far forwards, and will have to activate before Ulix. However, as this seems a bit clunky, I think I'll try making a Turn 1 War Pig summoning triangle with something else - Merris and Old Cranky (who isn't Insignificant) should be able to do that pretty easily. Then Ulix can either summon a War Pig and some Piglets with his excess AP on Turn 1 if I get a good hand.

Plus, I've just picked up The Sow, another War Pig and three more Piglets, so I'm not limited to four Piglets and a War Pig any more..! This means Ulix is going to be pretty busy, so I think I'll take Sammy with the Hunting Bow. Next time I play Ulix I'm thinking of taking Merris and dropping Gracie and Burt (busy with Wong, no doubt) for The Sow and Sammy; althought it depends on Strategies and Schemes.

  2. Oh well, in that case, my first 50ss game with Ulix was identical to yours but I had Gracie and Burt and no Piglet. You've got loads of points to spare! You'll want another 50mm Pig, IMO, either Gracie or the Sow. What else do you have available?

RE: Your original questions, Dirty Cheater, Gremlin See and Stilts all work with Merris, but I tend to not give her anything. I use Dirty Cheater on Ulix and being Rare 2 I usually have a better model for it, e.g. Burt. Stilts saves her from a Ml attack, but you want to keep her away from melee in the first place. Gremlin See might be good if you're worried about Conditions, but, and to answer the second question also, I don't really have any experience against Guild, so I don't know how useful it would be.

For Ulix, Husbandry is a must for summons, and Dirty Cheater is great for healing - especially if you are using (0) Proper Care a lot and summoning War Pigs, which you will be! Finally, Hunting Bow is amazing - not only does it give Ulix something to do at range (besides his ridiculous 4" Ml attack), but making a War Pig stampede is amazing - especially as a (1).

  3. First off, whats the point level? 30? And do you have a War Pig and more Piglets to summon?

At the moment you have Old Major, two scheme runners and two support models. Assuming you aren't going summon-heavy, I'd be tempted to take Corn Husks on Old Major, Penelope, more Piglets and some Wild Boars instead of Old Cranky, Merris and the Slop Hauler. Merris is a great scheme runner, but so are Piglets, and Wild Boars have From the Shadows for table quarters and so on - plus, with Piglets and Wild Boars you can tap into the Pig synergy, especially with Penelope.

I realise I've just said "completely redo your list!", but I think what you're going for is more suited to 50ss. I could be entirely wrong though, and it depends what upgrades you take!

  4. You've got pretty much everything Ulix needs, and then some (5 slop haulers?!), with the exception of maybe a second War Pig for the fairly rare occasion that you manage to summon two at once.

Lenny, Sammy and Old Cranky are pretty good with Ulix, too, but not at all necessary. I quite like using Penelope over Old Cranky as I use her push a lot.

Merris is also a good addition for scheme running, although the Piglets can be amazing scheme runners if you take Corn Husks.

    Welcome to Gremlins!

This marks my third 50ss game in a row with Ulix, and my fifth game in a row with the Pigs! I'll try and switch things up a bit for my next game. I'm wanting to give Som'er a try again and I've just picked up Wong, who should turn Gracie into even more of a beast. I'm also wanting to sneak Sammy in somewhere - holding Ooh, Glowy! for Wong sounds like a good use of her Master Upgrade ability!

  6. I've just got around to writing up Battle Reports for my last three games on my blog.

It's hard to remember everything that happens in a game of Malifaux - primarily because a lot happens! - so these reports are summaries instead of a turn-by-turn analysis. I hope they are interesting nonetheless!

I'll be writing up more of our Shifting Loyalties campaign games, hopefully on a regular basis. I'll update this thread when I do!

  7. Essential buys for Ulix are Slop Haulers, Piglets, a War Pig and The Sow or Gracie.

Essential buys for Zoraida will be the Will O' Wisps when they are out. A Nurse or Iggy are good with the Voodoo Doll, but I wouldn't call them essential. I like Waldgeists, McTavish and Bayou Gators with her too, but they aren't essential either.

  8. Ulix will take some investment, but he's great. He'd complement Ophelia in that his playstyle is completely different, and tackles different Strategies and Schemes. He does really need a box of Piglets and a War Pig at the very least to get his summoning going, though. The upgrade 'Corn Husks' allows Piglets in LOS to the holder (typically Old Major, the Henchman in the Hog Wild box) to take (1) Interact Actions as a (0) action, and to remove enemy Scheme Markers without taking an action. This is great for schemes like Distract or Cursed Object, and against any scheme that involves your opponent putting down Scheme Markers. The Sow or Gracie and Burt have great synergy with him too. (Check out his Pull My Finger wiki page, as well as Old Major and the other pigs, if you want to know more about Ulix.)

I've been playing Ulix recently at 50ss with lists that go roughly like this:

    - Ulix with Dirty Cheater, Husbandry (summoning upgrade) and the Hunting Bow (can make a pig go on a rampage)

    - Penelope (or Old Cranky)

    - Old Major with Corn Husks

    - Gracie with Saddle

    - Burt Jenkins with Dirty Cheater

    - Merris Lacroix (for scheme running, easily replaced with another of the Lacroix e.g. Francois)

    - Slop Hauler

and three Piglets and a Warpig on the side for summoning in (typically three Piglets on turn one, then a Warpig on turn two!)

With Hog Wild, Piglets and a Warpig you could run a similar list, swapping out Gracie, Burt and Merris for other Lacroix, Wild Boars or a second Slop Hauler.

Som'er would be good as another Master, and you can use your Young Lacroix as stand-ins for more Bayou Gremlins if you want to try summoning. Lenny is a great addition to any Gremlins crew.

The skeeters don't really fit on their bases, but it's pretty easy to make flying bases for them, with a pin vice and either old Games Workshop style transparent flying rods or some wire(I can post a picture guide if you have some of these handy, or just google 'Malifaux Skeeters' for some examples). Alternatively you could build up the 30mm base with some cork or something to give them a surface to stand on.

Hope that helped, welcome to Gremlins :)

  9. Well, they'll only every be hired in Gremlin lists if you're running Zoraida with Tarot Reading, in which case I think they bring a lot. (2) abilities as a (1), a 'lure' tactical action and any enemy Obeyed within 3" of them also drops a scheme marker!

I have another rules question: Can they use (2) abilities from upgrades? Zoraida has some good ones.
Edit: found the answer, yes they can :)

  10. Thanks! I'm quite excited about these. I love the Voodoo Doll shenanigans, but they require a lot of positioning with Zoraida and take up two of her AP. Offloading that to these guys will be great!

  11. Yeah, does she still count as Neverborn when running as Gremlins? I tend to run as Gremlins as she's my only Neverborn master. A ~17-18" max range Voodoo Doll summon and extended Hem threat range is amazing.

You have to warn your opponent if anything would effect them if they declare so the action will never "fail" wasting an action, sure they wont take an interact action but they will just do something else instead, so honestly the immediate fail doesn't even really need to be in there.

It actually clarifies whether the opponent can take an interact action while within 6" when they don't have the two cards without it failing.

I really dislike smoke effects but his is better than most. Still dislike it.

If the backpack is anything like Merris' then it'll be easy to replace the smoke effect with a flying stand :)
