  1. The amount of new background material from The Other Side about what’s happening on Earth has got me thinking... do my Fated have to stay in Malifaux, or can their adventures take them back to Earth?

Do they even need to go to Malifaux in the first place?  Not that Malifaux is exactly limited in scope, but a whole new world to tell stories in could be great.

And mechanically, is there anything that would work differently?  Are they unable to use magic as effectively?  If they gained new abilities on their journey through the breach, do they lose them when they go back to Earth, or is the transformation permanent?

Anyone done this or have any thoughts on it?

  2. Well, what do I want to know....?

How’s the book overall, thumbs up?

What’s the full list of pursuits?  Particularly interested in the Enchanter.

Anything particularly interesting in there that we might not know about?

Appreciate any info or thoughts you can share really. A bit gutted I decided to wait for release.

The pics I've seen are hard to read, how does charge, interact and desingage work please?

Also, fine with the red, not so fine at the lack of simetry with the black, hopefully there is something in play to mitigate a flipped BJ at a cost

Could be great if BJ means you can’t cheat unless you spend a card or soul stone... still nasty but not game ruining.

My concern isn't about the initial buy in, but that every time a new master is added you essentially have the same cost as you did with your first master.  In M2E, I'd use the beaters from the Ironside box to fill the hole in the Kaeris crew and the scheme runners from the Kaeris box to fill the hole in the Ironsides crew. I'd have two masters that I could play with just the contents of those two crew boxes. Additional purchases might be intended to optimize one crew or the other but become options for both crews. The addition of another master's crew box  doesn't have a lot of required purchases with it because you already own models that fill any roles that the new crew needs filled. Personally, I found that buying a crew box was usually the most cost effective way to expand.

I don't think the sky is falling and I do  like the idea that crews aren't just going to be whatever master was chosen with the whatever the best model for each role in the faction. There is a downside though to masters hiring mostly models with their keywords. Hopefully, there will be enough models with the Versatile keyword that can fill some basic roles, the hiring penalty won't be too prohibitive, or there will be enough models that have multiple keywords to keep it from becoming an issue.

Ah, yeah I hadn’t looked at it like that. Good point.

I guess it all depends on which models end up as Versatile.  Unlikely I think, but it could include Terror Tots, Silurids etc... the rank and file troops.

With the focus to keyword hiring, i wonder if Marlena, Serena, and Ferdinand will get keyword soup to work with all of the masters they encountered in their respective stories.

I suspect they’ll just be versatile plus a couple of other keywords such as Mimic for Ferdinand.

Considering the example card on the announcement page is Marcus oriented and says CHIMERA with no mention of BEAST, I'd say you are correct

*suddenly really glad I didn't start buying all the beasts for Marcus yet

Maybe he gets Beasts in Arcanists and Chimerae in Neverborn? And some models might have both keywords?

New Crewboxes contents are not known either. I really hope there is no Cyclop in Euripides' crewbox or I'll be very disappointed.

I think it’s unlikely. There don’t seem to be many models that fit easily into a frost giant theme, so my guess is that a lot of the new releases for Neverborn will be designed for him.

  8. Love Bob Ross mini.  And the Vik in the rabbit suit. The other one though, honestly a bit disappointed by the return to exploitative female minis. I thought Wyrd were  past that?

Just getting some friends into Faux and TTB and they love it, but I’ve already had to point out that yes, some of the early artwork is a bit iffy, but that things have improved a lot in recent years.  Was I wrong?

  9. It's not a bad starter set, hoping the missions will be an easy way to get people into the main game concepts.  But it does suffer from the usual Wyrd problem, that the minis seem to have been designed by someone who has never had to build and then use a miniature for gaming. Some of them are attached to their bases by little more than wishful thinking, with not enough thickness to even attempt to pin them.

In comparison, the starter set minis were a cake walk. I built the Hoffman set over the weekend.....

The minis themselves, yes.  A huge improvement in ease of putting them together.  Getting Angel Eyes firmly attached to her base with tiptoes and heels is another matter.

  11. Are there plastic models for hounds or hunters yet? I'm new to the game, but I don't think I've seen any.

From my admittedly very limited experience, it seems like badge of office and last stand are the standard upgrades, the rest seem pretty weak or opponent-specific.

  12. Schemes and Stones, at the moment, seems to be entirely about highlighting a master each episode, with a member of the community who feels they are very good, or knowledgeable, about a master giving them an introduction. That might be in line with what you are looking for.

I don't believe there is an order to the masters though. I could be wrong, but it felt to me, listening to the podcast, that they release master profiles as they get community members to highlight them.  Additionally they haven't been on the air long, relatively speaking, so with 39 masters in the game and episodes, roughly, every two weeks, it could be awhile before any specific master is profiled. Give them a listen.

Thanks, that is pretty much what I'm looking for.

  13. Useful lists, but also somewhat overwhelming. Would be great to have a full list published somewhere with a couple of lines for each to explain what it's about.

I was enjoying Malibites as a great snappy introduction to each Master, but unfortunately they have changed tack and don't do that any more. Not to say their new format of looking at different aspects of the game isn't also good, but now I'm looking for another podcast which helps me learn the masters. Before we begin is good for that but just a bit too in depth for a new player to follow.

  14. It is indeed pretty shocking the contempt with which GW are treating Warhammer and its fans.

On the plus side, this whole mess is how I found my way to Guild Ball and then though that to Malifaux.  I'm more excited about gaming than I have been for years, and for the first time in 25 years, Games Workshop don't feature in my plans.
