I haven't put Frontier on the table yet, but on paper Reichart seemed like he was just a few more triggers away from being solid. Since that's exactly what he got I'm excited to try him out!

Right. Before you could always justify an alternative in either explorers or guild for the points. Emissary in explorers or rider in guild perhaps. Now he's seems to be worth the points. It's funny, I actually tried him last night in guild and both my opponent and I were surprised he didn't have the execute trigger. Fixed!

  2. Has anyone tried thee sandworm with Cooper? I'm wondering if a pair of Vatagi might work well with the sandworm by tossing out some terrain to allow him to pop out right where you need him. With a couple of tomes you can toss them 8" away to set up a targeted strike by the worm from a couple of different angles for round 2.

The worm's jaws of the beast is Frontier only, so you won't have that advantage, but otherwise he could be a nice addition for 9 points. The sandworm is a pretty solid model anyway.

    I may try it.

Aren't there several shotgun types in the game? Could easily be a refurbished one with the 2/3/3 track instead. Would differentiate her from Mad Dog at least!

You're correct, there are refurbished shotguns and sawed-off shotguns for sure. There may be more still. It doesn't look like a sawed-off shotgun and I would expect, with her henchman status, she isn't saddled with a refurb, but those are certainly assumptions on my part!

  4. Yannic's gun looks to be a shotgun, so I would expect that to have the 3/4/5 damage track and 8" range. Hopefully, as the henchwoman of the box she is sufficiently differentiated from Mad Dog in role. I would guess she would be. My guess is that, since they're a mercenary group of which she is probably an officer, she has some support function(s). Clearly that support role does not include teaching the minions to use their rifles!

The brawler probably has enhanced fists (2/4/6) and, since he is grouped with three gun users, I hope he has something akin to hunting partner. Otherwise he's a bit of a fish out of water.

I've given it some thought, and I disagree, I would rather 1 leap than +1 mv, flight and butterfly jump in most occasions. The leap will cover more ground unless you walk 7 times. And even then the speed of movement in 1 turn is very helpful. So for a scheme runner I prefer leap unless the board is completely severe or walls all over the place.

I agree with is leap > +1 mv, flight, and butterfly jump, but the feathered wings upgrade remains with the model. Each of those abilities (or stat bonus) can be used multiple times while the leap is single use. The leap is more likely to help you score a point or get into a critical position, and so the Rocket Boots upgrade could still be the better upgrade, but the semi-permanency of Feathered Wings is really attractive.

  6. Do you think Cadmus will hold up to gunlines? Something like a Dashel crew who can pepper them from range while throwing some chaff in their way as they advance perhaps? It seems like that might be a way to use their low movement against them, although there are only a few factions who can pull something like that off. I'm sure the emissary would slow that roll a bit though. That defense 7 is killer.

I wonder too if Tara might be a decent answer to a crew like this.

  7. You have multiple models in the Von Schtook crew who can very reliably stun Lady J - specifically the Valedictorian and the Student of Sinew. I would make sure these models keep her stunned  and reserve your highest two cards for this every round until she's dead. If Lady J is stunned she really can't do much to you.

  8. You can play the attrition game right alongside him with Dashel as well. I would make sure you take out Lord Chompy with an executioner dive on turn 1 if you're doing that, but otherwise you can keep up with the summons and use similar tactics. A rifleman (or two) could focus on the daydreams. You have ruthless models in wardens. You have some take the hit, but you may want to add Phiona into your crew with LLC to help further protect your key models. He's going to be sculpting his deck with many of his models, but you do have card draw in a Dashel crew.

  9. There are a number of keywords that can grow these guys pretty quick, and they're solid in any of them, but Wastrel where these guys are really going to shine. There you'll be giving them fast and other benefits from McCabe's upgrades. I don't think either DUA or Frontier has quite as much use for them where McCabe doesn't have the Samurai or other great TT minions. The Botanist isn't a bad substitute once he has a couple of grow tokens. Also, as you pointed out, Wastrel isn't doing anything additional during the turn to remove the tokens, it is just part of their normal routine.

  10. What if Lazurus just lost the gun symbol on his shockwave? Would that be enough to make him worthwhile? He could still be a decent tank in most situations, but wouldn't get locked in to combat so easily.

Perhaps he could also have a couple of triggers on his shockwave that represent different grenade types. Perhaps a targeted grenade which allows Freikorps to ignore it, maybe a concussion grenade blown back trigger, and a condition-inducing sonic grenade (slow & staggered).

Drachen Trooper: they simply are not worth. As an 8ss model, they seem capable of a lot of disrupting (they can set models on fire, move enemy models, remove conditions, remove markers and place pyre markers) but in the end all those effects are quite situational and hard to achieve. As the only model in the crew causing burning, you can forgot about the Pyre dropping (he must shoot twice the same target before being able to use that trigger). The Mass Hysteria is an unsuited trigger, the marker removal is very short ranged, and the damage is unimpressive.

Its Flamethrower could have the same triggers than the ones in the Conflagration action from kaeris (Smolder, Raging Inferno and Burn It All) along with the already Mass Hysteria. Maybe add Mass Hysteria to their Move or Burn action. And it really would be interesting if he could remove all non-pyre markers with its bonus action, instead of only the destructible markers.

These guys aren't useful very often, but when you want one they can be very effective. Their ability to clear certain conditions, remove corpse & scrap markers, and remove destructible terrain is pretty fantastic. If you think McCabe is going to ride in and pepper your crew with his netgun the trooper can save your bacon. If I don't need to do any of those things I would never take him, but he does have his uses, so I wouldn't go out of my way to fix him.

  12. Well, the alt was pretty easy. The metal one was before my time though. I built a pillar off of some ruins in the center of the base to secure her raised hoof to, with the point of the lower one just touching the ground. Should be OK.

I noticed when I was doing it that Nekima is left handed.

Weary road on an engaged Alice or Mad Dog and a heal with the trigger for handing out the companion trinket from the Emissary is always nice.

Yeah, when I've played Parker the Emissary is always there and always give Mad Dog the Memento upgrade. They almost always activate together with the Emissary going and moving Mad Dog with Weary Road and dropping the scheme marker to give Mad Dog fast. They're so good together.

  14. How are you guys doing it? I really like the new model, but she really doesn't have much in the way of contact points. I could put her on a flying base, but her extended leg is slightly longer than your normal flying base, making it an interesting attachment challenge. Right now I'm thinking about building up a base with ruins that are structured specifically to give me two contact points, one of which is a vertical contact point for her extended hoof.

    Thoughts?

One that I missed early in GG1 was burying your lodestone carrier with stutter time in an Obliteration crew to help move it around. It makes them really quite efficient at it once you've practiced it a bit.

It in your sentence being the lodestone since it pops to the nearest model. Since stutter time is a 6" ability that's probably as far as you can move it, correct? So are you normally moving it to the model that stutters time and then having that model move the rest of the way to the next marker?

You can't do it. Model 9 can take a Charge from engage, but you are still limited to one Charge per Activation. So it could be X Marks the Spot, Charge with Blade Rush + Throw Knife + free attack from trigger if you managed to do Severe. Now you have 1 AP left and you are engaged, so it's just a Twirling Blade attack. Which is not bad at all :)

Sure you can. He's only charging once, but using throw knife twice (he has run & gun) with the trigger on those two attacks to get a total of 4 attacks for a minimum of 4 damage plus the one damage from blade rush. Minimum 5 damage if you hit all four attacks. There's no reason for you to be engaged. That's optional.

  17. I used Model 9 (aka Murderbot) in a game yesterday for the first time (and it was actually my first game with Apex) and Model 9 was a beast. I was a able to get a couple of focused on him early and over the course of 5 rounds he killed 3 models, including Nekima and Euripedes (my opponent was playing multi-master). With focus, adversary, and predatory instinct he can take advantage of an escalating damage track pretty easily.

During the game he would generally use x marks the spot to give injured. Next charge and ping for 1 with blade rush. Then use stat 7 knife attack to throw a knife at the injured guy with adversary, stoning for the mask if I needed it. Free attack on a plus. Repeat. You have a great chance of hitting 4 times and likely seeing some flat or plus flips on damage depending on how you're using focus and predatory instinct. He was regularly doing 8-10 damage a turn that way. That stat 7 after you've just given injured usually means you're ~ +3 to the duel before flipping. He just doesn't miss much.

Lord Cooper usually wasn't giving adversary to models he wanted to shoot but to models he wanted Model 9 to attack.

Again - first game. Who know if that was indicative of Murderbot's long term potential.

Why do you consider Artemis as part of the core? It looks like an anti-scheming model for me, which is situational.

I would probably put Artemis in with the Rex pretty regularly to move him up the board quickly with her roar. Outside of Rex her main use for me would probably be in ley lines and her unimpeded 18" move!
