  1. You should listen to the Schemes and Stones Nicodem spotlight. It's pretty good.

That's a good suggestion, and here's another resource I recommend, from this very forum: http://themostexcellentandawesomeforumever-wyrd.com/topic/108409-nicodem-starting-guide-tactics/. zFiend does a great job summing up what Nico needs to do to summon effectively, and what you should be summoning. Also if you go to the resources section here: http://www.wyrd-games.net/malifaux you can download summoning cards that help you remember what you can bring out at every level of summoning. I always have Nico's with me at every game.

  2. Valedictorian is a Henchman.

Gah, this is probably the third time I've forgotten that, thanks for the correction.

I'd take Rafkin, he synergizes with everything that has poison (like Mortimer and lots of Minions). He can dish out a lot of damage and is fairly selfsufficient.
Also he can quasi-buff your crew as they deal more damage to poisoned targets.

Edit: He is somewhat fragile but Mort can fling some rot on him and thus heal him via Mithridization

That's a good idea, I often forget Rafkin exists since I don't usually play poison crews. I don't have his model, but I do have his card, so I'll have to check if my LGS minds if I proxy him. I especially like his price, paying 7SS is quite a bit better than the 10SS of Izamu and way better than the Dead Rider. Thanks a lot for the good advice.

  3. This week we are starting a 6 week shifting loyalties campaign at my LGS, and I'm in the middle of evaluating which enforcer I want to start the campaign with in my Arsenal. I'm leaning towards either the Dead Rider or the Valedictorian since they can double as reasonably fast scheme runners when need be, and I feel like that versatility will be useful with the smaller SS games of the early campaign. I'm taking at least one Necropunk and one Punk Zombie at the moment too.

  4.

Thank you so much for your very informative post, I will most certainly look into those.

Is one box of mindless zombies enough or should I grab two?

I'd recommend two personally, five is usually enough but I find myself with seven or eight often enough to make it worth it. Personally I just wish the Mindless Zombies were less expensive.

  5. For Ressers (assuming we're talking models that would be good for any or at least most Resser masters) I'd go:

    1) Rotten Belles. Lure is great with just about every Resser master, movement manipulation is always great.

    2) Nurses. Similar to the Belles, the Nurses have something to offer just about everyone in the faction. With four vastly different triggers on Take Your Meds you can get exactly the effect you want of out them, and since they can even use the suits on really low cards in hand it's pretty rare that you can't get the trigger you need.

    3) Izamu. This is a completely selfish choice, I just really love Izamu as a beatstick. With Armor +2, a high MI and decent damage track, and the ability to heal, he's my favorite enforcer in the game and I honestly can't imagine playing Ressers without at least considering him.

  6. Seamus or McMourning would probably be good for the Resser box, they're both relatively well-suited to newcomers, and very fun and evocative models for new players to enjoy. Other than that I think Dirial is spot-on:

Perdita, Von Schill, Ophelia, Ramos, Pandora, Misaki... These sets don't need many additional models or upgrades.

All of those are great suggestions, and showcase a great variety of models.

  7. The Chihuahua is one of if not the first successful reanimation of McMourning.

I imagine personal Totems generally come in three forms; something that has a deep connection to the master's power *McMourning/Ramos*, an actual manifestation *Seamus's*, or something or one that can serve as a proxie of sorts for it *such as Ironsides and Mouse*.

That makes more sense, thanks for the explanation.

Do all Masters have a personal totem or do some of them only get a generic one?

To the best of my knowledge they do, no masters come to mind that don't get one. Also some masters have a sort of familiar like creature as their totem, such as Nicodem.

  8. Is there a lore wiki or something for Malifaux?

This is something I really think this game needs, Pullmyfinger is great for learning about mechanics for the game, and how to play different models, but if you want to know the fluff behind anything it doesn't do you any good, and the rulebooks aren't very informative either. for a game with as great a story as Malifaux I'm really surprised no one has made this yet.

  9. I have Lilith and her crew as well as the Mature Nephilim and the two Young Nephilim and all the upgrades that come from those two boxes.

I would be looking for the cards that come out of Kaeris' crew box, hopefully with upgrades, and the Hooded Rider card.

    PM me if interested.

Would like to try to trade within the U.S. please.

  10. Hi, I'm a Resser player but my girlfriend plays Lilith, and while I have a pretty good idea about what's good over in the Resser camp I have little idea about how to play Lilith or play her crew. So I'm asking for advice about how to play her, and especially what Neverborn models are worth considering getting for her. We already have her crew box and the Nephilim box, and are looking into the Hooded Rider. Any help would be appreciated, thanks y'all.

  11. You'll want Necropunks or Crooligans for scheme runners, they're both excellent at getting where you want them. I personally recommend the Punks but everyone has a preference on which is best. Also you need the University of Transmortis box, in my opinion it is literally the best buy if you need to add to your summoning pool. All three of the normal Iron Zombies are great summons and the Valedictorian is very useful if you need a mobile Enforcer.

Finally I'm just gonna recommend zFiend's Nicodem guide right here on this subforum again, it really is the best resource for playing him that I've ever found. Good luck in the tournament, and welcome to Nicodem and the Rezers!

  12. Thanks for the input! That's good to hear. I do wish that the fact he's an expensive master to play had helped temper my interest in him, but so far he's been the most enticing master to me.

When one gets into the Nicodem club, one does not leave so easily. Petty things like 'money' and 'rent' cease to take any meaning. Wyrd must use the same addictive stuff Magic: the Gathering puts in their ink, it would explain some things :)

  13. Personally I am not too impressed with Madame Sybelle with Nico, she isn't better than Mortimer as his Henchman and I find taking two Henchmen to be too costly, especially since I always try to get a beatstick in my crew. Not to say she isn't good but she just isn't quite as great as Mortimer. For Reconnoiter Night Terrors are great, and zFiend recommend's summoning the Shikome for Reconnoiter. I also recommend the Nicodem Starting Guide and Tactics thread here if you haven't read it yet, it's great. I also agree with Nunorod that you might be getting a little ahead of yourself with your gameplan there, you want to stay flexible to ensure you can keep up with the demands of the game at hand. Having an idea of what you'll do if X happens, or if Y happens instead is great, and understanding how your crew works together is crucial, but not at the cost of being able to react to the reality of the game at hand. That's just about it off the top of my head, maybe zFiend himself can sneak away from his captivity for a bit and add some advice. One question though, who does your regular opponent usually play? Advice to beat Ramos is gonna be significantly different than how to beat Marcus for example.

  14. He and Anna (née Lizzy) have some natural synergy as her ranged attack doesn't randomize. Get close to him and it gets easier for her to get moderate and severe for summoning.

Oooo, I hadn't noticed that about her shooting, I've been wanting to try her out too so matching her and Hayreddin together sounds like a great plan. Thanks Trumpet.

  15. Killjoy also is a pretty crazy beat stick that we can take, he's extremely expensive but he's crazy good at killing things and surviving to kill more things. Then if you're like me and play Nico you get to buff him as he's Undead. He's very survivable and personally I love enforcers that can heal themselves. Mix that with his (1) AP Charge (who cares that it's not optional, it's where you want him to be anyway) and you've got a killy, survivable tank of a giant zombie.

My favorite beat stick though has to be Izamu. Tough, strong, well priced, and near impossible to get away from, with enough armor to make him shrug off even the strongest hits, Izamu rocks and is probably my favorite non-Nicodem model in the game.

For dealing with armor I'm just gonna toss my name into the Student of Steel hat, all the Students are good and worth picking up their box for, and Steel shows your opponent just how you feel about their armor.

  16. I looked at him and said the other way, if I needed a relatively solo model that does damage I would take him or if I got one where people tend to bunch up like turf war I might consider him. I want as many enemies in his aura as possible and a few of me in it, through a good hard to wound model in to of set the aura.

I agree, that sounds like a good use for him. Squatter's Rights also looks good for him, send him off to claim one of the markers and dare your opponent to get in his bubble.
