  1. This "Malifaux" game had just come out and I really wanted to try it, so I convinced one of my friends to try it with me. Supplies were pretty limited at that time and he took the Lilith starter I wanted so I took the smelly Gremlins.

    Gremlins, my silver medal. :)

So you resolved to make them a faction and also used your best jokes in their rules?

I take offense to that, sir!

"The Shirt Comes Off" and, it's sequel, "Sir, Please Put It Back On" were my best jokes.

Anyway, I'm glad I did. I really enjoyed gremlins. In general I think aesthetics are the best way to pick. You can learn to play a model, you can't learn to appreciate the looks of one you don't like.

I will agree to the aesthetics. do you like the way they look? cool! like their story? cool! like their rules? cool! all things that contribute.

  2. Collodi's concept got me into the game, but he wasnt out yet. Also after learning how picking a master works I wanted to be sure i liked all of the other faction options... i didnt...

but then i found Hamlin and fell utterly in love with the diseased rats. problem was, he also wasnt out. I read all the outcast flavors and i loved Levy's story and how he looked like a really cool "mechromancer" character. He was in plastic so i got him! ..... much to the dismay of my other friends.......

  3. No experience with Collodi but I suspect a doppleganger would be useful as she's a mimic for Lucius and just generally useful for any Neverborn.

Also rather than buy illuminated get the Lynch 'Dark Debts' box!

Someone was nice enough to offer me some of their excess Illuminated so I am not worried there :) I really dont like lynch (faced him too much, bad taste in mouth lol) but i would def buy his box before i bought the illuminated on their own

  4. Ok So I have very little experience playing as neverborn (harldy any actually). I play pretty much outcasts exclusively, but I want to branch out a bit. I a looking at building a neverborn lucius crew and a colodi crew. My question for you guys is what models should i pick up that could work with both? i am getting illuminated and will pick up several effigies and coryphees for colodi, but i need more models that can be interchangeable between crews. Also I would like them to still be able to function with the other models in the crew boxes, a bigger challenge for lucius as he looks a bit challenging to balance his focus on guild vs neverborn.

What do you guys think? i am open to suggestions of all kinds and even play tips :)

  5. Drinking straws would be good for pipe but you would need to strengthen them somehow

Depends on how you are making them. If you cut straws in half, then it is really easy to strengthen them and they work to look half submerged or something like that. Also depending on straw size, put sprue bits in them (longer bits are better) and that gives them some strength.

  6. This is the case of a "replacement effect" triggered by the words "instead of."

lets say they take poison damage, then say Embalmed kicks in. The damage is replaced with the healing effect. When Welcoming Pain wants to work, it no longer has a poison damage to replace so no effect happens. This would work vise versa like Dirial said.

  7. zFiend, that's actually how I do play Hamelin and fine he performs wonderfully as a control master.

I agree. I have never played him without rats, but I have seen some others do it. He definitely works better with using rats though, but you dont have to bring an exclusively rat crew. I know a guy who uses desolation engine with him. Masters can always be play "withing theme" but so many can be stretched beyond that.

I personally think Jack Daw is high up there as far as theme lists. I have found it hard to theory craft him without his theme crew

  8. Baha what cannibalbob said is mostly true ;) But the henchmen are the players who drive the malifaux community. Henchmen are required to run at least one event a month and they get involved with several promotions to grow the community. In return they get access to special promotions for their store as well as some prize support and other stuff. During conventions, Henchmen lead the charge by volunteering and helping to run events, demos, and get their hand dirty to help promote the game. You can run a tournament without a henchman, but as a henchman you get bonuses over time for running regular good events.

  9. Well, first of all, Welcome! second, I would recommend Rasputina or Lady J. Lady J is the most killy master in the game so she is easier to use while learning. Rasputinga has some fun stuff and isnt too complicated to learn.

Next the 2 player starter has 2 crews, each containing a henchman to lead, 2 minions, and 1 enforcer. They are all mercenaries so yes you can use them in any faction as long as you pay the 1SS extra for out of faction. Its a fantastic set to pick up and learn the game with and the models are actually really good outside of just using them to learn.

For artwork, its mostly in the rule books and rpg books but look at the chronicles as well.

    Again welcome to Malifaux!
