    Why spoils of war though?

    those minions won't kill anything

Ancient Tomes is a great spell, but without ways to capitalize on it (read: Tara, Aionus, Wretches) most of its strategic value is activation control and scoring Take Prisoner on the last turn.

What I mean is it's not an auto-include, I'd personally go for 2 more SS in the pool or I pay better + Oath Keeper.

By the way, any love for Anna the evil younger sister?

i haven't had to test her yet, but on paper she looks just fine and well worth the 10 points

Anna is awesome to shut down tangle shadows in Ressers, getting the Freikorps boost in Schill makes her worth the merc tax.

  2. Archie.  Leap, then throw your leap upgrade at someone, drop a corpse next to them, then charge them.  Then Reva lays into them.  (Kills most things, lots scarier if they have armor defeating stuff near Archie.)  Might require a Belle or two if you're playing someone hanging back.

You can also just focus/shoot w/ Archie early, and hang back to protect Reva.

  3. Tara's fun.  She's different, but fun.  You don't have to run beastie bomb strategies with her, but it's nice to have the option!  Her learning curve is noticeably higher, and she might not work as well with most schemes, but she's somewhat versatile.

Karina is iffy, not being able to stone for summons hurts, you've got about a 58% chance of drawing a card you can summon w/ for her (assuming you stone for cards.)  I like her, but you can run graveyard spirit instead, etc.

  4. So Killjoy bombing with Tara is a good time, and Bishop/Hans can be fun, somewhat unexpected additions to ressers.

I'd like to try Ama No Zako, as she seems like she'd be fun w/ a Hanged and a Drowned, but I'm not sure.

What are your preferred mercenaries?  What masters do you like to use them with?

Hi, I currently play guild, but I think I'd really like resurrectionists. I was planning on getting into the faction, but I wanted to ask around a bit first.

My opponents in my play group currently tend do very strong degenerate things like put 20 more points on the table turn 1, or charge me from half a table away with pushes and flying. I want to sort of tech against them as best I can.

But the biggest thing is that I want to do crazy flashy degenerate things too! I play guild and the most degenerate thing I have is an austringer that I hate the feel of :P

You might like Tara or Molly when they Killjoy and/or Bete bomb.

Well, Yin looks most unplesant.. Gut snake.. xD The models I listed that I like I like msotly because, The undead I like the most are spirits and skeletons. I'm not big on the zombie types.. Yes, I know, Weird to pick the undead faction when you dont like zombies! But I do like spirits and skeletons. Can Kirai and Yan Lo work well without summoning a bunch of stuff?

I really didn't like Yin either until I found out it's a Malaysian vampire myth -- I thought she looked kind of silly til I knew she was based off a classic set of stories.  You might be able to do a conversion of a Naga figurine or something that looks kinda like Yin without the gross-out factor.  (Or you can just not use her, but she's dang good for Yan Lo to tie stuff up and debuff Wp!  She's very good at what she does.)

I think from what you've said that you'd like to start with Yan Lo.  Toshiro provides some minor summoning support, and Ashigaru are cool skeleton guys and they come in Yan Lo's box anyway.

Bete is probably easier to use in Yan Lo as you're not wanting to use those high cards to summon cool stuff like you are w/ Kirai, so you can save a 10+ for Bete insurance.

Obvious answer:  Get both and pick based on the schemes. :)

    Hey there,

I don't have any advice on what models you have have to take with which schemes and strats, others are a more capable in giving tactical advice. The one thing that I do want share is that tournaments aren't as cut-troat as you might believe. Just try to have fun and think of it as a way to play a few games against players you normally don't play against.
The one big difference is the time limit. Expect most games to finish by round 3-4. To play a bit faster it helps if you at least know all your own models and at least take a look at the models of your opponent so that you have a slight idea of what he/she is playing. Don't be afraid to ask if you are unsure of an ability or combo.

Oh and Seamus with a Yin and the Hanged is just nasty :)

    Have fun!

Yeah, for sure.  Your local group might vary, but I haven't witnessed anyone get as silly serious about Malifaux as they would about Magic:TG.

  8. For Bete Noire -- start with her on the board if they have any shooting models.  On top of the anti-shooting stuff, she's just good.

It'll limit your hand a bit w/ Kirai by wanting to keep a 10+ around, but Bete's also going to spawn Ikiryo so she's even less attractive to hit, so you might get away with bluffing it at times if you hold one bad card.

I want to start with Malifaux, however in my gaming circle i am the first. I have read up a little and found out that dreamer and kirai seem to be good masters and i like their style. I am planning on purchasing both crews, so i can try to get my friends also in malifaux.

Question is if they can hold their ground against each other or if it is bad matchup for one of them. My friends and me have played other miniatures games(warmachine, guild ball), so being a little complex should not be that bad for us.

Bonus Questions: What further models want these casters in their lists and which wave are they ? Am i set with the Maifaux 2e ?

I just played that matchup last week -- it was pretty balanced and a lot of fun!

However, we both had enormous summoning pools, and there are a lot of model interactions going on.  That's probably ok though, it doesn't sound like you're wanting to start w/ the more straightforward stuff.  But it's a bit more expensive.

Also, you can play ressers vs. ressers and it's fine fun; this is probably true for Neverborn as well (but I haven't done it.)

Just for clarification I assume you mean after Toshiro (or something else) has killed the Corpse Candle that he can then attempt to summon an Ashigaru from the resulting Corpse Marker if you have the Command the Graves upgrade attached to him?

Corpse Candles and Mindless Zombies are only considered Corpse Markers to friendly models, not opponents models.

Yep, you got it.  Corpse candles die very easily.

Toshiro seems like a decent pick against Ressers in general if you can make him fit.

Other than Ressurs, Lady J and some summoners there aren't that many ways to get rid of corpses I can think of. A lot of models get rid of Scheme markers, but I had trouble finding many that could get rid of corpses, though I am not an expert in all the factions. I was looking in TTs though and had trouble finding much. Maybe we should start a list?

It also leads to having to build your crew specifically to face Reva rather than building a crew based on schemes/strats, which I think is generally a bad precedent.

Ten Thunders has Toshiro, who summons off of corpses.  That's pretty good against Reva -- you turn her corpse candles into your Ashigaru.

  12.

Enforcer brawls and henchmen hardcores are their own events that my local Henchman puts on. Everything else is standard Malifaux. There's a lot of fun games that have been played, though there's also games where I've been annihilated from turn 1.

I'm the newest player in the group, outside of a couple of players returning from 1.5e. Been using Lilith for the most part, with a few months of using Ramos. Usually I try to get my schemes and strategy done and focus less on denial, though I'm not even sure how I'd even deny VP. I feel familiar enough with most of my models, though opponents models, not so much.

Bring a different master so that people can't do tech picks against you.  (E.g., Anna Lovelace vs. Lilith / Beckoners, etc.)

Alternatively, ask them to play as Lilith against you playing their crew -- it might help you learn a few things you've missed for both crews when you're focusing on the other ones.

  13.

I prefer Reva with Beyond Death, Maniacal Laugh, and Decaying Aura right now. I can see the use for Litany of the Fallen but i do not like that it limits me to declaring it as a trigger and only for Ethereal Reaping. That and i mainly face models that use alot of healing abilities so if i charge in i can prevent those. Decaying Aura lets me harass soulstone users, prevent healing, use other triggers, and i can use it in conjunction with Life Drain if i want.

Have you tried using Decaying Aura on Izamu and throwing him in with Reva, who treats him as a corpse that turn?  It sounded fun, but I'm not sure it works out in practice -- Reva needs to be fairly close to the fight if you're doing that, whereas you really just want to keep swinging at people with her AP.  (Or, at least, I did!)

  15. I played Reva for the first time last night.  Really fun!

It was collect the bounty so she sounded good w/ her shieldbearers, and I ran public demonstration and frame for murder (Anna Lovelace) against Lilith.

Archie spent a long time just being rooted by Lilith, but being able to rip your own upgrades off, focus, throw them at people, have them land as a corpse, and then have Reva murder them out of said corpse was ridiculously fun and entertaining theming too.  Also I dumped a stone turn 1 just attacking a Waldgeist for nothing so that I could give three shieldbearers fast; one ended up killing (albeit a framed) Nekima.

Bummed I didn't end up being able to order a box (so I was in proxy town,) but it made me look forward to getting the real models.  Except Archie, I love my Archie proxy.

Speaking about Tara, just a short question. What non-resser models do I need for her? I bought her crew box and some Death Marshals. Since I got nearly every Resser model, I am now looking for mercs and stuff to make the most out of her.

Bishop, Killjoy.  That's about it.  Bishop is probably better, unless you're against black blood.

Scion of the Void is alright and fun to play with (don't forget it can essentially unbury itself) but not "necessary."  Really fits her theme though!  And it makes void wretches ok when they steal her attack.
