I am hoping another Tara player can shed some light on this

    Thank you Azrrael.
I had seen something similar that had a Death Marshall in there to drop both The Nothing Beast and Scion of the Void onto something at the end of your turn, unburying both of them (hopefully after they are out of activations, and you can use them back-to-back and then win the next initiative). Not sure if it would be worth taking out 1 Void Wretch and the Malifaux Child (not sure what he adds to this/don't have the card in front of me right now) to add in a Death Marshall.

I haven't tried it, but the kid can give Tara fast for a wound.  You need a 10, but if you focus, you flip three cards to try -- ~67% on a deck w/ replacement.  Mainly just activation control, though.

He missed being part of the Easter Sale. If he's going to be part of one of the three yearly sales, his next opportunity is being for sale during Gencon (though new LE models for gencon are usually limited to Nightmare and Miss models) or more likely as an incentive during Black Friday.

That sculpt could be a miss model, really.  Lazaria!

It is not a legal target for Nekima.    It is not in Nekima range.   The same thing if I was shooting at Burt with a 10" range at 10" away and the rat is at 12" away.  It is not a legal target.

Randomizing into an engagement is a separate situation and the range and LOS is ignored for the new target because shooting in to engagement states that.

    Much appreciated.  Thanks!

  4. Consider the following situation:

    • Rasputina is casting December's curse on her Wendigo because it has been naughty.
    • Before this, an Ice Gamin used Bite of Winter to give Frozen Heart models +1 damage to attack actions if they're within 6, and he's standing near Rasputina.
    • A shifty Malifaux rat is standing next to the Wendigo.
    • Rasputina hits the Wendigo, and flips severe damage.
    • Her damage line is 2/4:blast/5:blast:blast.
    • She blasts onto the rat.
    • Does the rat take 4 or 5 damage from the blast?
  5. Take the following situation:

Nekima is hitting Burt from 3" away.  Standing behind Burt, 2 inches away from Burt, and 5 inches away from Nekima, is a malifaux rat.

Can Burt use slippery to make Nekima hit the rat?

To put that another way:  Does "legal target" not mind that the rat is 5" away from Nekima?  Is it still a "legal target" despite being out of range?  (You can shoot outside of your range by randomizing into an engagement, we're not sure if that transfers to this situation.)

    Thanks!

  6. Dumb timing question -- if I take the Plague, and I use the trigger to give the model blight after succeeding w/ Pipes, does it move its Walk or its Charge that activation?

I think it's Walk but I'm not 100% sure.  (Obviously if you hit them with it again it would be Charge that next time.)  Thanks!

So got my first Hamelin game in this week. Took Hamelin (Pipes, melodies), Rusty (Oathkeeper), Deso Engine, Obedient Wretch, 2 Void Wretches and 2 Malifaux Rats. I wasted time on the engine until my opponent's Colette crew was through activating. Then Hamelin went, made a couple stolen. Walked Rusty, walked Deso Engine. Engine charged Howard. Killed him, made an abom. Rusty goes, Burn out on Deso. Deso reactivates. Kills 2 performers and makes another Abom. Is at full health. I win intitiative, kill Casandra and by the end of Turn 2 my opponent had only Colette left. It was a bloody mess.

I can see taking one void wretch against arcanists (to eat the stupid birds!) but a winged plague will suit you better for the second scheme running guy. :D  Reactivating the desolation engine is fun though, cheers!

Gave my combo with Mad Dog and Hamelin a go against Ramos, but due to questionable decisions on my part (I built a very thematic table with a river across the middle) and my opponent's part (he decided to go bubble Ramos and was promptly stuck in the severe terrain for the whole game) there wasn't much action going. Still, gave my Guilder Hamelin a spin (which is probably the coolest model in the faction at the moment).

    Several things to note:

    1. a bad hand Turn 1 (like, zero Crows in the 8 cards you get with a SS) can be overcome by Obeying the Wretch to Focus and then shoot with Focus

    2. free Rat Catchers are amazing

    3. I can't properly play the Killjoy bomb for the love of me

    4. Irresistible Dance, baby!

Why focus?  If you Obey her to throw twice it's the same odds of hitting a crow.  It's also more dangerous for the rat you're throwing at -- more of a chance of hitting double severe than triple.

I wonder how something like this would work. Possibly fit some Abominations in there for more aoe defense duels.

    50 SS Outcasts Crew
    Tara + 4 Pool
     - Dead of Winter (1)
     - Oath Keeper (1)
     - Eternal Journey (1)
    Student of Conflict (4)
    Hannah (10)
     - I Pay Better (1)
     - Oath Keeper (1)
    Sue (8)
     - Return Fire (1)
    Convict Gunslinger (7)
     - Return Fire (1)
    Performer (6)
    Desperate Mercenary (4)
    Desperate Mercenary (4)

     (exported from CrewFaux)

You need the knowledge of eternity upgrade to be able to use Tara to ping fast onto models.  Dead of Winter doesn't do much in that setup either, you can skip it.

  10. Were you bringing models to summon out of?  Usually this is going to be a flesh construct or a couple night terrors.

Izamu shouldn't stand around, you catapult him around with Kirai using swirling spirits.

Philip is huge, draw four cards w/ him on the first turn (and probably the second.)

Sorry i totally forgot Irikyo...i have it ^^!

The second gaki will be problematic. The new sculpt is so fantastic that i may buy it anyway and use the old one as a base for a conversion!

I have 2 flesh constructs and 2 hanged but it's a pity that they don't have the asian feel to go with the rest of the crew!

Izamu the difficulty will be choose between the real one and Genbu!

Are Shikome mandatory ? And how many are really usefull in one game ?

What's difficult about Izamu vs. Genbu?  IT'S GENBU. :)

If your flesh constructs and hanged aren't fully painted you could at least match Kirai's color scheme w/ them or something if you'd like to go semi-themed.

I don't think Shikome are mandatory now that Goryo exist, but I don't play against a lot of high DF / low WP crews where they shine.

  12. When I'm playing Hamelin, if I want to advance with my rats, I'll have three rats walk up a the board, then have the Wretch throw a rat at one, which will activate and become a rat king.  (Or if I have two crows I'll throw two rats and skip an activation for the distance; you usually have plenty anyway.)

While my opponent takes their turn, I have a 30mm marker, and I measure where I will move one of my rats and place my marker there.  On my turn I move my rat.  (Obviously I don't do this if it's going to telegraph something, but it helps me avoid clumping my rats to where they can't spawn a rat king, and helps me plan where the cute little guy will spawn.)

I also use little red cubes to mark which of my models has moved -- I never did this til I played Hamelin but it's very helpful.

  13. Hamelin:  Drop Plague for Survivalist instead of Infectious Melodies -- melodies helps protect your models from accuse -- then your opponent is stuck doing scheme-marker schemes which you're in good shape for.  You've got Hollow to stop Sonnia from deleting you (she'll kill Nix turn 2, but hopefully you can have something tie her up on turn 3.)  You out-activate Nellie, which is typically hard.  Perdita will kill a lot but can't kill everything while you score points, and McMourning shouldn't be worse than any of those.

  14. 2 Gaki is probably ok, 3 Onryo is fine (2 might be fine,) 4 seishin is probably fine, convert a Lost Love.  Should grab a couple night terrors OR a flesh construct to summon out of, or a shieldbearer if you have Reva already.  You need both of the Hanged.  Oh, and Izamu is good.

And like people say -- you really need Ikiryo.  Kirai loses a lot of her charm w/o Ikiryo -- everyone else you can live without in casual play; you'll do fine w/ Belles and punk zombies if it comes down to it.

If only there was some sort of rule readily available on fast models in ressers that stated "This model ignores, and is ignored by, other models and terrain during any movement or push." Oh wait, night terrors are incorporeal, move fast and are dirt cheap! Just use one of those to get where you want while also wasting enemy activations. If you don't like them there's a swarm of other incorp models. :)

Yin can't target a models she can't see though, so I'm not sure what you're getting at with that last part about engaging things you can't see.

Someone mentioned moving Yin 16" in a turn, I'm saying that doesn't quite work out as flying isn't incorporeal.  If they meant over 2 turns, sure, np.

If Yin can't see a model due to blocking terrain, she can hit a friendly person, move 8", have 1 AP left, and then have LOS to the model.  This is relevant if a 4" walk wouldn't get LOS to the target.

An alternative model to the flesh construct to summon from is the shield bearer. With some forward planning you can get 4 summons and a soulstone from it before it finally dies for good.

    2

Two night terrors are similar in that you can get 4 summons from them, and they're a little easier to position w/ their 6" incorporeal walk.  They're a little easier to heal too from Lost Love, although that's usually irrelevant as you'd rather heal what you summoned.

  17. Note that it's hard to do this twice in a row -- flight doesn't allow pushes to ignore intervening models -- so you'd move 16", but you'd need a 90 degree angle in there to do so, so it's really 11.3".  You will move further if you attack, hit the trigger, then fly over the next model.

But it's a cool idea to engage an enemy model that is out of line of sight around a corner!

    Here is my thought:

If you can out activate the opponent, all you need is a minion to run up with in 6" and interact with a master or henchmen  near the end of a turn to get your point.  Could be achieved even easier if minion has flight and is hiding behind a wall. Am I missing something?

Yes.  Tail'em is way too easy.  You should always take it.

  19. I essentially started w/ Tara too -- she's really fun!

She should be able to do ok w/ Dr. Grimwell if you want to do the "beastie bomb" style with a model you already have -- so on the first turn, you can tag Grimwell with fast (from Obliteration Symbiote), bury him w/ Glimpse the Void, walk twice, use eternal moment, wait until the end of the turn, walk a couple more times, unbury grimwell, and hopefully have him in position to walk from nimble, focus, then lobotomize someone's brain out.  Looks like that one goes about 23" from your deployment, 27" if you're Outcasts and take scramble.

Also I forget if faces of the void and void shield come in her box now -- if they don't, you might want to grab those from wargamevault or upgrade deck 1 when you get the new cards -- they really help the Nothing Beast and Karina.  Enjoy!

For what it's worth, I have no idea what "on the table" is supposed to mean compared to "in play", since the last time I got into an argument about what "on the table" meant it was for 40k.  I don't want to have nightmares about strawmen and the "That model's not on the table, it's standing on a wall" argument.

Why have that argument at all?  I'd take my ball and go home if someone threw a fit like that. :)

  21. I believe you can attach his upgrades during the game w/ stapled on, as they say "ignoring all restrictions" when you take the action.

But starting the game w/o hulking leap and/or armor is going to stink.  (He's fun in-Ressers.)

Leve probably has better options though, as they say above.
