Looking at the entry fee and prize support for this event it may be worth you looking at this recent discussion on facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/1347973228562774/permalink/1709698122390281/

Thanks fella, the prices and prize support for this are set by the store to cover their staffing costs (drinks service at your tables etc). They run events for other systems with varying prices (usually higher than this). I'll check out the discussion now ?

  2. Hi,

I'm running a 32 man 1 day tournament at Wargames (http://www.wargamesuk.co.uk/) in Southport, Merseyside on Saturday May 13th 2017.

This will be a 50ss fixed faction 3 round event following the GG2017 pack, which will be ranked.  With tickets costing £20 for the day.

The prizes will all be in store credit and providing we hit 32 players, they'll be as follows:

    1st place £75

    2nd place £50

    3rd place £25

    Best sportsman £50

    Best painted crew £25

and the obligatory wooden spoon for last place.

Wargames is a huge venue situated right in the centre of Southport with plenty of hotels/B&B's nearby and is just a 5 minute walk from the train station.

    Tickets now available from  http://www.wargamesuk.co.uk/the-good-the-bad-and-the-wyrd---malifaux-tournament

  3. I'm probably far too cautious, struggled getting the scrap markers for sparks. Zipp only took 3 damage all game. I normally use him to screen everything for the 1st 2 turns then run him into the enemy. 1st mate and earl were scheme running & dropping piano's from behind a building. I do need to look at what upgrades I have on people, I'll have to dig them all out and have a proper read.

  4. 50 SS Gremlins Crew
    Zipp + 5 Pool
     - No Quarter (1)
     - Dirty Cheater (1)
     - Stilts (1)
    Earl Burns (3)
    The First Mate (9)
     - Hovering Airship (0)
     - Where The Captain Can't See (1)
    Sparks (7)
    Whiskey Golem (10)
     - Barrel Up (0)
    Burt Jebsen (7)
     - Dirty Cheater (1)
    Merris LaCroix (6)
    Stuffed Piglet (2)

     (exported from CrewFaux)

He was ressers, had Molly, yin, 2belles, the emissary, a Hanged ad graveyard spirit. Can't remember what the upgrades were.

Strat was headhunter, I took claim jump and frame for murder on Merris, he had marked for death and FFM on the Hanged. Turn one I put fast on the golem, companioned  to zipp and swung the golem up. It charged the Hanged (which had moved up to cover) and my opponent  spent the rest of the turn dealing with it while I moved everything up behind a wall of clouds.

Turn 2 He lured Merris with a Belle then Merris put 4 burning on the Hanged (which had already had poison from the golem) Molly then killed Merris getting me 3points for FFM. The hanged died from burning/poison that turn so I'd escaped that one! I scored full for claim jump using 1st mate and Earl, he kept luring me, marking me, and picking up the heads so full points for those 2. Game ended 7-7 as I'd only managed to pick up 1 head. I dropped the stuffed pig bomb on the emissary and a Belle turn 3 dealing 6 damage to each!! The look on his face ????

  5. Tried sparks with zipp tonight, managed to get the "stuffed piglets bomb combo" to go off. Man, that was awesome! Also, fast on a whiskey golem that "grabs a rope" then runs straight at the enemy can really put them on the back foot turn 1!

  6. Hi everyone, I'm starting a rapid growth league on Tuesday evenings from 6pm at Wargames Southport starting on the 21st Feb (http://www.wargamesuk.co.uk/). It will use the standard rapid growth rules which can be found here (https://www.wyrd-games.net/s/Organized-Play-Formats-dlxl.zip) except it will run for 8 weeks rather than the standard 4 (each "game week" running over a fortnight) as some people can only make every other week. The scenario's for each week use the gaining grounds 2017 strats and schemes and can be found here : https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3zVFpO3eRUlRnk4a1Y1YUYtbk0

    Game weeks will be:

    Week 1: 21st Feb - 6th March

    Week 2: 7th March - 20th March

    Week 3: 21st March - 3rd April

    Week 4: 4th April - 17th April

Achievements can be scored each week over a maximum of 2 games as long as one of the games is played on a League night (Tuesday). There will be prize support from myself and the store & the more people we have playing the more prizes there will be. Entry to the league is free but there is a table cost at Wargames of £3.50 per evening (you can play for as long as you want though!).

I'll be running demo's on the Tuesday's leading up to this to get some new players involved. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I hope to see some of you you there!

    Thanks

    Chris

  7. So I've managed to finish them off today, here's the next few steps to take me to completion:

I got some old cd's, covered them with a piece of thin card and glued some sand on to represent 5" clumps of cacti

    _20170122_131037_zps5832yvcg.jpg

    DSC_0015_zps6v4b2hn1.jpg

I covered the cacti bases with the same sand mixture

    DSC_0016_zpsd1asfkyp.jpg

After a white primer I painted the bases, I didn't have any decent size pots of paint but luckily I found a tester pot of "terracotta" masonry paint in a cupboard. I drybrushed a desert sand colour over the top of this once dry.

    _20170122_131149_zpsdncixagl.jpg

Then I painted the cacti with a light green, put a green wash over the top, glued some clumps of grass to the bases and all done!

They're not gonna win any scenery awards any time soon but for a few hours work and less than £5 in materials I'm made up with the results. Looking forward to my resser friend luring me into them in future games. If I was to do this again though I'd either use thinner screws or glue the screws onto the base rather than screwing them through from the bottom. Some of the bases are wonky as the heads of the screws are quite large.

Thanks for all the comments and support from everyone on here and the AWP facebook groups!!

  8. I decided my games needed some soft cover of sorts and since we never seem to use hazardous terrain i decided i wanted a cacti field (or a few patches). After an evening of searching google i came across a tutorial from a guy who used nails and clay to make them (https://westerngames.wordpress.com/2014/01/23/making-saguaro-cactus-terrain/). Now, it's January and I'm pretty skint, so there's no way i could walk in the house with a bag of nails and some clay without getting interrogated by the missus. I had a look round at the bits I had and decided to try and make my own version:

Step 1: I took an assortment of screws and screwed them through the bottom of some old bases I had lying around.

    _20170120_182138_zps0bmtv98b.jpg

Step 2: sellotape a bit of paperclip to the screw to make the "arm" of the cacti.

    _20170120_182207_zpswfcehu1o.jpg

Step 3: Cover it in green stuff!!!!

    _20170120_182241_zpsoq3ruzu5.jpg

Step 4: Use a spare screw or something else ridged to make the ridges on the cactus by rolling it up and down the greenstuff.

    _20170120_182303_zpsgrho8azi.jpg

Step 5: repeat until all done!

    _20170120_182330_zpsemi8jpft.jpg

Took me less than an hour and cost me nothing. I'm going to make small zones for the cacti to sit in to represent patches of hazardous soft terrain. Once the greenstuff's hardened I'll do the bases and paint them. Ill post more updates when completed!

  9. Hi I'm Chris, the new henchman based at http://www.wargamesuk.co.uk/ in Southport, Merseyside. We play Malifaux here every Tuesday evening and I'm available to give demo's to anyone that wants to learn the ropes. We're looking at running a slow grow league through February/March followed up with a tournament at some point (I'll post dates when they're confirmed).

If anyone's interested in coming down for a demo, casual game, or joining the league, you can get me here on the forums, on twitter (@chrisgilboy), on facebook (Chris Gilboy) or join the wargames players group to arrange a game/demo (https://www.facebook.com/groups/124056428048371/). Although we tend to play on a tuesday, with a bit of notice I can be free on any day!

Wargames has a great friendly atmosphere, great tables and scenery, a massive player capacity, a large selection of the malifaux range to tempt you with and Martin does some awesome speciality hot chocolates. Its a 5 minute walk from Southport train station and opposite stops for the buses from Liverpool/Preston.

Hope to see some new faces soon!

    Thanks,

    Chris
