I played my 5th game of Malifaux, I think it was, vs. a Rasputina crew, for the first time, a bit ago and I've been trying to get an idea what to do better.
Course I got slaughtered. A lot of that was me not quite getting all the combos in the right order for Somer - and totally forgetting about Survival of the fittest sigh. And he totally failed to summon one round. And I also had no idea how to combat Rasputina's Ice mirror chaining thing.
Anyway we had Reconnoiter for strategy; I chose plant evidence and Line in the sand for schemes; one of the ones my opponent chose was assasinate. (I don't recall whole pool sorry) This is only the second time I've played with any strategy and schemes and we're not yet using any of the new ones even.
I'm playing Somer (Family Tree, Can O Beans), with 3 bayou gremlins to start, a slop hauler, Sammy, Lenny (Hide in the Mud), and two Skeeters. Idk what my opponents crew is now sorry I'm mainly focusing on my own mistakes and trying to figure out what I could do better.
Right off I made mistake of not realizing Sammy could still take upgrades, and that I could have stoned to prevent damage, so I got that one now. Second mistake I think I made was after the first summoning of Bayou Gremlins, and healing them, I didn't go reckless and move up the field but held them back in Lenny's bubble more, which ended up counter productive.
I did get some markers down for line in the sand, and my opponent and I got embroiled in combat with Lenny being the main target, after Sammy went down. Lenny being the assasinate target. I moved the slop hauler up to try to help keep Lenny healed up to deny him his points. I also realized then that a better upgrade for Lenny would probably have been Dirty Cheater, and I should have used his Pet the Piggy action rather than trying to go mano o mano so to speak.
So some of the questions I came up with during this game are:
How do you deal with a master like Raspuntina generally, to disrupt the chain thing? do you simply try to stay out of LoS? I realize this is a hugely open question but any help is appreciated.
Somer's Survival of the Fittest - if a gremlin dies within the range, *when* does he draw the cards? Is it immediately after it dies? end of the turn? I get the usefulness of this ability I'm just fuzzy on the mechanics
For those who also summon - when do you want to stop? And what do you generally do with Somer once you stop summoning? I had him at the back for pretty much a lot of the fight. Should I be moving him up the field with bayou gremlins in tow?
Anyway, advice is always welcome I've still got a ton to learn so I'll take all the help I can get!

Thats correct.. Mancha Roja comes in the Wong box and there is a card in the Arsenal deck. It does search for individual models. Mancha is not sold separately atm. What is doesn't do it a partial search on the name. So typing Nurse will turn up zero results but Nurses will return the info.
Ugh that explains a lot thanks!
again memory thing... I'm not always 100% on the names or whatever, wish it was a bit less finicky. Still, good to know!

Sorry if this is the wrong place for feedback, I just had a thought while I was trying to find a model tonight that it would be excellent if there were a way to link the models in a crewbox with a search function in future. Ie - I'm looking for Manchu Roja, and the Wong box comes up.
unless of course it's something I'm doing wrong* which I wouldn't be surprised by, but the search doesn't seem to look for individual models like that and if I don't remember the name of the box it's in, it's hard to find.
anyway just an idea!
*please enlighten me if I am doing it wrong I'm old and I forget stuff!

Doh hate computer woes - hope it gets sorted quickly for you! and thanks for the flesh recipe!

How much is he into KSP? Is he going to enjoy the puzzle when things get really technical, really fast? Is he going to read pullmyfinger tactical wiki for fun and profit? If he does love the complicated playstyle, then we can send him to Hoffman or Jack Daw or Tara.
It might not matter that he doesn't like tank-n-spank playstyle online. I don't there, either. I was a caster, always. But on the tabletop the weapon isn't swinging in front of my field of vision every few seconds to make me unhappy. On the tabletop "send construct of choice into melee, as many times as I like, until the problem stops being a problem" is just fine.
Actually, Hoffman or Jack Daw would also be good for the build up first, then smash the enemy in melee approach. Power loop the constructs first for tiptop performance before advancing, or apply tormented to selected models friendly or enemy and then drag them together.
On the other hand, if he'll be facing your swarms of gremlins regularly, maybe we should just send him to Sonnia or Viktorias for the most efficient disposal of masses of greenskins.
Like really really really a lot (he's an engineer too IRL) lol And he will undoubtedly sadly pick up the game much faster than I can/do but! this is perfect advice. I really appreciate everyone's help!

Other than my ELIM entry for WIP, this is mostly what I've been working on recently (A Ghostark for my son's Necron army)

So, I'm trying to get the hubby into Malifaux. He's not a miniatures guy, nor does wargaming, all his stuff's online. He likes looking at my models and that's about it. I'm trying to help him pick a faction for Malifaux, so he can play with me, at least at home, if not at the FLGS (he has a bad back).
I play Gremlins. And really, that's about all I know about, I'm not good with the other factions. I've read a few threads here, but they got really technical, really fast, and I just couldn't follow them.
Online games, aside from like Kerbal Space program, he tends to play the shooty, DPS (mage/archer) types. Not much into tank n spank. In strategy games (like Warcraft III, Dune, Command and Conquer) he liked to base build and then go all out.
Assuming any of this helps ^^ what might be a good general match for him? I'm looking to buy him a crew box to try out, if he doesn't like it, we're not all in and can try something else.
Normally I personally go by looks first and gameplay second but he's a bit reversed.
Appreciate any help!

I have kind of the same problem @Boshea keeping the models together that need to be together, while trying to compete through the terrain and for the schemes makes my brain hurt lol I keep forgettting stuff! Last game I totally spaced that Lenny could heal himself. I would have probably lost anyway, but my opponent had obviously chosen assassinate as their scheme and I parked a slophauler next to Lenny to try to help with that but ultimately lost him.
I can't offer too much advice on the issue, the only thing I have figured out after like three more games than you, is to make notes of how the combos go - so maybe, just maybe, I'll remember lol I'm sure a lot comes with practice too.
your second list is close to what I want to run as well! except I'll take Lenny where you have Trixie (Don't have her yet). And don't forget Masters get 3 upgrades and you can give Sammy 2 as well (I believe that's true of all henchmen but you might want to look it up), plus henchmen can use soulstones... something else I forgot in my last game sigh
Also - someone correct me if I'm wrong please! but is it a good idea, using Somer as a summoner, to take three Bayou Gremlins so he can hopefully get off Git Yer Bro 3X for summoning more? I've been taking 4 to start but maybe that's not the best use of the points

Very nice! I've been eyeing that site >< so many cool minis
love your piggies!

Your articles keep me sane

I haven't got or used Mah so I dunno about her, but I really like Somer and Lenny. I'm still working out how they play, mind you, but he seems like a really strong master and his box is very useful imo
-
How do you mitigate the damage on the Bayou Gremlins - or do you bother? I can never seem to keep them near/next to my slop hauler
-
Evil grinz! thanks again guys

As an additional question, now I'm putting my pigapult and piglets together and contemplating their uses
How may piglets would you recommend? Should I buy another box? I have one box atm.
Also it occurs to me, wild boars say they are pigs... would anything that affects pigs also then affect them?

Just from what I've seen, Mats by Mars are very nice and they seem competitive.
I have a pretty standard vinyl(?) RPG squares/hexes mat I use at home. Oh and a piece of canvas. (DIY for the win!) Should really dye my canvas and add some fabric paint.... hmm....

I shoulda known it'd be something simple like that lol cool beans thanks!
Just got my Pigapult put together now to figure out how to get it to fit on the base o.O it's a bit longer than its base

The Pigapult can run independent of any master as long as you have Lenny and a Slop Hauler.
That being said, Somer helps that configuration the most with 'Do it like dis!' to ensure Lenny gets the tomes needed for smooth summoning.
In an Ulix crew you can drop Lenny for Sammy and give her the Husbandry upgrade to hang back and summon ammo and war pigs (a little easier since there is no suit requirement) while Ulix rides around in the pig ball buffing the pigs. Still recommend a Slop Hauler here.
Ok trying to figure out this bit - Lenny summoning a piglet is dependent upon doing weak damage and pulling a tome - if you do moderate or severe damage that would mean you simply don't summon a pig? Even if you have a tome?
Also, what I don't get is the target model for Lenny's attack action "whacked piglet" - is it a friendly or an unfriendly model (I mean for purposes of the combo, not rules wise)? since it says the summoned piglet is in base contact with the target, I'm not quite seeing how you make sure the pig is close enough to the pigapult to use as ammo, unless you use a friendly model?

would love to try this not sure I get the whole thing yet, but not got killjoy or a lightning bug sooo anyway, something to keep in mind for future!

really looking nice!
couple things I could suggest (totally optional) - you could do a green verdigris wash for your copper, its version of rust (or just get the technical paint from GW nilahk oxide - sp? - it works really well!) And the other thing, a couple of streaks of your lighter metal colour, showing through the rust in a few places, or a small amount of drybrush silver, depending which way you really want to go. Just to make it look a little less even and more natural occurring. Or not Entirely up to you!

I love the display broad but does it break down so you can fly with it or is it one piece?
It's one piece pretty much, I just made it for my shelf cuz I don't go many places I carry my guys in a feldherr case now to the FLGS. I'd have kept using the display board but we had a slight accident (my son's cat!) and I'm still fixing it
