we know the master we're playing against ahead of time, so EVERY list can be custom crafted to foil our opponents choice.

We know the enemy LEADER we're playing against, quite a big difference in my opinion... there might be a Zoraida lurking in the Shadows, or a Seamus teleporting around to help McMourning etc. Would you take anything to counter Zoraida if your opponent announces Dreamer as the leader?

  2. I've only hosted 1 tournament so far (with official M3E rules that is), not surprisingly the winner fielded Zoraida as secondary Master.

For example, here is a battle report of a player who seems to know what he is doing when building a crew versus her:

Yeah, that's great when you know you are gonna play against her.

When you are up against Dreamer you can't really put together a counter-Zoraida crew just because she MIGHT be hired into the crew.

But even as a primary Master, she is not very fun to play against. Insane range on Obey and besides strats, it's never fun to see your own model walk once, then charge your own model back towards your own table edge, making it a full activation farther behind, as well as hitting a weak totem in the face. And concealment won't help if she REALLY wants to hit that 10 stone beater with her stat 7 double mask attack. And she probably does.

I think the range should be changed, the ability to take interact actions with enemies, and her card craw mechanic. I don't mind Obey but I think it should be walk or attack actions, that's it.

  3. Why would you want it to touch BOTH? It never can, unless a model (or terrain) is standing the EXACT distance of a 30 mm marker from the previous strategy marker, ON the centerline. How often does that happen?

The new marker should touch the previous strategy marker, model, OR terrain... not both/all of them. Perhaps I need to post some pictures here to clarify what I mean.

If it was just overlapping the old marker, then you cannot place it on the other side of the ship, because it would no longer be in base contact with the old marker. You would just place it on the free side of the old marker.

It doesn't say it has to touch the old marker but that's how we played it, as I said: as close to the original position without overlapping either model, terrain, or marker, as possible.

  4. "...instead drops the strategy marker evenly on the centerline, touching but not overlapping the strategy marker, impassable terrain, or model"

We had a game today where there was a strategy marker (from the previous turn) in base contact with a large impassable ship.

So placing the new marker touching one of those COULD result in the marker being placed on the other side of that ship, 6-7" farther towards the centre of the table, still on the centerline?

We agreed it made most sense that the marker got placed in base contact with the other strategy marker to place it as close to it's supposed destination as possible, thought nothing seems to support it in the rules?

  5. The biggest event of the year will once again host Malifaux among all it's games.

  6. Had a game with Mary the pirate queen, 2 things came up:

We both had a model with From the Shadows but couldn't find anything to clarify who deployed their model first? Since it's "start of game" and only deployment phase seems to be described?

Second: A model charges and strikes Mary, the strikes again with the same melee attack. Does that trigger caress? You declare 1 charge and 1 attack but charge also gives an attack so have you declared the same attack twice?

the true strength of Shenlong for me is the wandering river style with no TN! the ability to move your model even on a black joker or the enemy models on a test a super good!

Holy crap, you're right. They have removed "enemy only" from that action!?! DAAAAAAAAAMN!! 😮

While technically cheating is "after" flipping, by that logic "next turn" or "thursday" would be as well.

    Quoted for truth. :)

I hear people say it's too good and they want the Chi to be spent BEFORE flipping. I agree SHenlong is strong but perhaps it's mostly because of Fermented River Style?

  9. It must be a good sign that you find it hard to keep up with the same number of people! :)

I would hate for the case with M3E to be: "well we only really need 1 employee now... to dust off the cobwebs in our warehouse filled with stuff we can't sell."

Keep it up and I will keep bringing more players in here in the cold north. :)

  10. So auras don't stack, which means even if you are surrounded by 3 Sorrows and gain stunned, you won't tkae 3 x 1 damage.

But can 1 Sorrow give 1 damage, while the 2 others each move 2" because the aura then affects 3 different models?

Same goes for activating within 3 Sorrows regarding Life Leech: Will your model take 1 damage and 1 Sorrow heals 1, or will your model take 1 damage but all 3 Sorrows heal 1?

  11. It helps knowing the rules for Monks to begin with I suppose. The concentrate boost for one thing. ;)

And as Cursed25 said: LRM doesn't really fall behind by standing still in turn 1 but if you want his 4 wounds in the front lines be prepared to lose him to a stiff breeze.

  12. You've lost quite a few with Shenlong? 😮

I already know a few people who ask me to not field him. He seems VERY strong.

I usually have 1 LRM, cheap healer who can also give Shenlong 3 Chi in turn 1. HRM are always doing great. Yasunori is good with Shenlong since Monks can heal him pretty easily.

  13. Had a few games with him and this came up, question 1 applies to others as well I suppose:

    1) Montresor is killed but discards a card to heal 4. In what aspects does he then count as killed? Dig their graves? His attacker has a healing trigger/ability when killing a target? None?

    2) 3 models had a "The Hanged" curse on them. We guessed that meant I could curse no more models until one of the other targets died in accordance with "a second copy of the same upgrade will be discarded with no effect"? It would be nice to just curse a new target and remove the curse from one of the other models of my choosing but nothing seems to support that in the rules?

Both Daw and the Hanged really, really need heals. Models like the carrion effigy and Gravediggers can save Jack a card for each point they heal, and their presence on the board alone is a huge deterrent as damage inflicted to Jack or the Hanged seems like a bad investment.

Hanged aren't Undead, so they can't be healed by "Stitch Up" which is a real bummer. Guess they didn't hang long enough to become Undead? :D

I would like to add Daw to my resser collection, however I'm worried that he may be a NPE for my opponents. Are my concerns founded or he isn't as bad as he looks?

I don't think he is bad to meet. As with many others: if you have no idea what you are walking into, then perhaps. But when you know how he works, he's not bad. I'd rather meet him than Zoraida for instance.

  16. Let's jump right in:

1: Hoffman's "temper steel" says armor can't be ignored on his target but irreducible still plows right through, correct?

2: When (the very fragile) Youko dies in turn 3, does the opponent's card hand go back to what it was?

3: Gluttony's Maddening drums can't destroy a turf marker but can it still push a model in base contact with one?
