  1. I decided to share with you a picture of what I came up with; sadly after about 15 trys I have given up. The image url box just goes a ghostly white and nothing happens for about 5 mins. Sorry. Could have shown you how I managed to fit this beastie on a 30mm base, but... OoH
  2. Thank you for the uber quick replies. Holy hell in a handcart! I have no idea how I am going to get this big beastie on a 30mm base...this is going to call for some very creative basing work. thanks for the quick responses. OoH
  3. Hey I will keep this brief, I have just bought and built the Ramos M&SU crew box, built the models and then went to put them on the bases. But which bases are for who? Ramos and Joss are simple but; what size base is the brass Arachnid and Howard Langston supposed to go on? I ask because there is no way on gods green earth I am going to be able to get these "leggy" models on the 40mm bases and there is only one 50mm base (and getting them on that will be a miracle!) but if either of these models is supposed to go on a 30mm base well...that isn't going to happen in a month of Sundays. Even if I build up the base in such a way that it is angled and "on a hill-side" I doubt it will fit. (and I am slightly concerned that if the base starts to grow upwards to fit these leggy beasts, then doesn't this change their LoS?) Anyway, I did try and google this first but the was no definitive answer; so I came to you! Thanks in advance OoH
  4. Wow, thank you so much for this, everyone. I wasn't expecting so much detailed (and amazingly quick) advice. This really helps allot because I was kind of worried that by steering away from the traditional synergy based crew that, should a more established player pitch up, they would raise an eyebrow, tutt under their breath and mumble something about clueless synergy ignoring noobs. This is really useful and it means I can go away and really look at adding in more models to try and add a different dimension to the crew. I was thinking of posting up some pictures of all these models when I have finished painting them, but am not really sure where to do this; blogs or galleries. The reason I say this is that (although I could be mistaken) galleries appears to be just that; a gallery of pictures and I am not sure how the blogs thing works as it looks (looks) like a one post thing. The reason I say this is because I am sure I could benefit from advice and comments on painting, more over need it, but I am not sure how that would work in one post threads/ galleries. Thanks again for the advice, no doubt I will be back with more questions in a game or two! Such is the nature of new players OoH
  5. As I have already said in this section myself and a couple of friends have decided to start playing Malifaux. It was a rocky start but we are getting there! I have another question though; I decided to start out playing with Pandora and the crew associated with her (the people in the no shelter here box). Now I am probably not using this crew to it's full potential, this stands to reason as someone new to the game, but I was wondering if it really matters who is in this crew from the Neverborn faction? I seem to have been having some trouble getting Candy to do anything of much value. The sweets and sours thing never seems to come off the way I expected or more over just doesn't do anything. This may be because I am playing models that can reduce it's effectiveness (some burning guy from the guild who can't have his own burning thing used against him etc etc). Someone mentioned in passing that I could switch out some of the people in the crew with other models; namely Tuco and Coppelius. So I have the question; do these guys work well with Pandora? And is there a limit on how many enforcers you can have in a crew? I would be dropping Candy to get these guys in, and potentially dropping sorrows and/ or Baby kade if needed (primarily because although I bought a nice Teddy model to support BK I have never managed to get him into a game due to soulstone cost...making it a bit of a waste of time). If it helps I am getting the idea that predominantly Pandora and co are more geared at forcing others to take WP tests and making other models move when they don't want too, but would adding in Coppelius and/ or Tuco into the crew give Pandora some more muscle rather than relying on (me TBH) Candy being within 3" of either the first or last model to move and then pulling off whatever she does. Any advice would be greatly received, so thanks in advance. I doubt that it will help in answering questions, but we (myself and 2 mates) would like to get more people in our local club (which could be described as a 40k club...yawn...because that appears to be all they play) into playing Malifaux, this would be so much easier if we knew what the hell we were doing or how to play our crews more effectively. Anyway, thanks again OoH
  6. Thank you for this. I think we are starting to get a grip on it. We all came from a background of playing larger horde/ army based wargames where the aim was generally to just kill the opponent. I think the transition from one thing to another may have hampered us a bit. I understand why it may appear that we haven't scrutinised the rule book, because to a certain extent we didn't. As we wanted to dive in to playing when we hit something we didn't immediately understand, well we kind of skipped it thinking it wouldn't matter in the big scheme of things. That appears to be quite wrong! I think we also didn't realize how important things like terrain, personal traits of the characters and strategies and schemes actually were. In the other games we have played the theme or purpose of the game was not really that important over just killing stuff where as, this appears to be much more important in Malifaux. We just didn't realize that I guess. Also I think we didn't really realize how important it was to "know your crew" because in other games you get an army and they kind of are-what-they-are. Whilst some of them may have special rules they were not as important as the personal traits of each crew member. We will have to try much harder and try to get over the transition from 500 models wars to smaller more tactical games. Once again thanks for the advice, we will try and get back "on it" and see where we go. OoH
  7. Me and two friends have just started playing Malifaux; horray! We have had our first two games and I have to say we are having some trouble understanding some of the subtleties of the game. Specifically, we are failing to understand the purpose of some of the icons (masks, feathers etc) that comes after actions on a stat card. For example; I have (maybe unwisely judging by my performance, or high death rate, in my first two games) chose to play with the Pandora crew. On the back of Baby Kade's card it says carving knife and after that it says MI7 then has a picture of a mask . What is the mask picture for? That is to say what does it do or why is it there? Also, the last bit of that line says Rg: 1. What does that mean? Is it relevant to anything when performing the action? More over, underneath that it has a picture of two masks :mask and says Flay. How do you generate the two masks? Is this the mask from carving knife plus a "cheating fate" flip that is a mask? Our first two games have been, um....well some what odd. I am sure this is down to our total lack of understanding of the rules and misunderstanding of what we are doing. If I am being honest we have probably gone about starting Malifaux all wrong. I decided to go with the Pandora crew, which appear to be a more "challenging" crew to play and one of the other two guys wanted to play Collidi as a master so has got the 2nd wave arsenal deck. Not really sensible choices when learning maybe. None-the-less the first two games we have played have resulted in Pandora and co being butchered out-right by about the 4th turn. I am sure the demise of the said Pandora crew is because I am not sure what they do really, and that we are getting a bit lost on all the interactions between crew members and the icons on the cards. Then again, maybe we are just a bit dumb! Our other friend seems to be getting a better handle on how to play (ie understands the rule book better than us) but has no clue on the icons after actions. Any help and advice would be invaluable; especially as the Collidi guy is thinking of jacking it in (quitter!) after only two games because he thinks it's too confusing, which would be bad as there is only the three of us playing Malifaux at our club presently. Both on icons and what you are supposed to do with the Pandora crew as using them for any kind of fighting seems out as they seem to die pretty quickly. Thank you in advance. No, seriously thank you. We need the help! OoH
  8. Thanks and I'm more South Lincolnshire than Norfolk TBH. More cows, less pigs OoH
  9. Just thought I would say hi as I have been lurking in the shadows for a while primarily because I have never played Malifaux nor bought any models, so didn't really have much to contribute. This all changed about 2 weeks ago when a small group of friends decided to start playing this system as an alternative to the other (multi-national conglomerate games company with vastly over priced product) games we normally play. I am about to invest in all the necessary items to get going so may be seeking advice on both playing and painting the models. To date we have not had a game yet as we have all decided to only play with fully painted models as we felt it would create more atmosphere and lets face it, there is only 5 or so when you kick off, so how hard can it be? Well, that's me. OoH
  10. Hi I thought i should just mention that it has taken me nearly to weeks to finally register on the forum. I have no idea why this has come about, or why now it is suddenly fixed? After following the usual links and registration info the message came up that the validation of my account had been completed by an administrator so no need to use the validation info. Great! But then i was unable to reply/ post anything and couldn't create a new account because my e-mail address was already in use (obviously). I also was unable to contact the site Admin or MODs as i was unable to post replies or start threads. After having to create a further 2 e-mail addresses this has finally worked. I dont know if this is a problem that anyone else has experienced, or for that matter been reported, as logic dictates that if it was a general problem the people facing it would be unable to post anything or report it anyway! So i just thought i would let you guys know. Now on with the serious business of Game talk. OoH
