  1. As a newer player who has also chosen arcanists your vids are a great help as well as being entertaining. Theres not a whole lot of malifaux battle reports out there, especially ones done in such a great, easy to follow format from an experienced player.

I figured Joss may be the usual go to choice, I managed to pick up the ramos box for cheap on ebay even though I don't plan on playing him just yet simply because it gives me access to joss and howard!

With regards the engagement, that makes sense and also makes squatters rights much more of a tactical experience.  In our game is was more of a case of last activation had a huge advantage as you could simply flip a marker even if the opposition stood to block.

I guess its just you being in an opponents engagement zone that stops you interacting with markers? What I mean by that is that at the end your captain was stood between the two markers to block them both off. both markers were in his zone but that in itself doest stop them being flipped right? If an enemy model was to approach the squat marker from the opposite side and manage to outside of your zone but still in B2B with the squat marker he could still flip it I presume?

Making it harder to block two markers opposed to just one where you can stand ontop of it to ensure full coverage?

Sorry for the amount of questions, but im keen to improve to a standard where I would be able to attend tournaments and these forums seem to ahve lots of great minds to pick on such subjects ;)

    Thanks again.

  2. Another great report and although you apologise for going over the time limit I wouldnt think that many would be opposed. 20 minute malifaux may not be as catchy a name, but cutting it down might endanger the precise and engaging content.

Im new to the game but the really effective summoning from the Dreamer seemed to be a deal breaker, particularly with the Squatters rights strat.

    A couple of questions.

    1) you say that the rail golem is rarely seen on the top tables in tournament and wondered why you had him in the list. Presumably the vassal format enables you to use any models you like with no resriction on needing to own the model like a tournament would. Do you take him mainly for the turn 1 Burning hand outs to your crew? Is it just  a model you're particularly fond of using?

    2) If you were to chose a different beat stick/ tank instead of the golem and use the Child to hand out the burning instead who would be a good choice? Joss? Howard? Anything spring to mind?

    3) As I said im a new player and with only one or two games under my belt. One was Squatters rights but as two new players we didnt see any reason you couldnt flip markers that were in an opposing players engagement zone. Have we missed something glaringly obvious from the rulebook?

Thanks again for the great report and I look forward to seeing more!

  3. Thanks for the quick and helpful answers guys, much appreciated.

Yeah maybe I could have worded the blast question a bit better but strumpet has answered it In his answer. In essence I had cast into combat hit the ice golem and got a severe. Then used this result to put two blast markers down both of which were touching lady justice. We played that she took TWO lots of moderate damage from this but now realise she should have only taken damage once no matter how many markers were effecting her.

But apart from that I'm pleased to see we played the vast majority of our game correctly! Enjoying the game immensely and can't wait to get expanding my arcanists collection!

  4. Can't seem to edit the post as I'm on my phone but the first question should read 'perform the (1) action wak THREE TIMES

And the fifth should be asking for confirmation that you do NOT recieve cover bonuses for MI duels and only for those with the projectile symbol on the attack.

  5. Hey guys, had my first game of malifaux last night and loved every second of it. Just wanted to sum up my experience and ask a couple of probably very ' noobish' rule query questions.

I'm new to the game but have been wargaming for close to ten years and like to think we had a decent grasp on the rules even for first timers.

So we played a 35ss game using a strategy but no schemes just to get the hang of the game mechanics without swamping our brains completely and ended up flipping Squatters rights!

My crew was Raspy and was up against a Lady J led guild crew. I'd taken the starter box but swapped out one ice gamin for a December acolyte and Lady J was playing the models straight out of the box.

It was very fun with a highlight for me being the ice golem smashing the lady herself for 10 damage then Raspy finishing her off with a Decembers curse into the combat hitting my own golem, cheating up the damage flip to a severe and killing Justice with the blast markers ;)

It was very back and forth with my low cost marker grabbers being whittled down by a combo of the judge and some shooting meaning I relied on flipping a 10 to see if there would be a turn 6 (which I did) to be able to finally grab my 4th VP and claim a well fought draw.

A couple of questions that did pop up however

-I assume triple walking is a valid move for a master to make? I've heard lots of mention of double walk but couldn't see a reason I couldn't perform the (1) action of a walk twice.

    - we played on a decent board with plenty of terrain and in particular walls/hedges. We called them climbable and Ht. Which we took to meaning it costs 2 inches of movement to get over them, was this correct?

-we saw no reason you couldn't charge over said walls is this right?

    - if a model had walked upto the walls and a model wanted to declare a charge. As long as the charging model had enough MI range to attacks across the barrier ending up on either side of the wall is still a legal charge correct?

    - assuming this was A legal combat you recieve nonnegative flips for cover in MI correct? Only against projectiles?

    - In regards to normal charges. Does a model have to charge closest point to closest point or could be charge at an angle to end up on the side of a model to maybe bring more models into the engagement or block a counter charge?

-with blast templates, I'd cheated up to severe damage to get two blast tokens. As long as these tokens are touching each other and one of them is touching the target model I saw no reason I couldn't hit a neighbouring with both tokens which is what eventually let to Lady J's death.

    - and finally with regards to pushes. Can you push over climbable walls? We assumed no. How about through dense woods? I'd read that severe terrain was ignored for push purposes but couldn't see anything about other forms of terrain.

Thanks a lot if you managed to get to the end if this rather large post and I hope the questions wernt too blatantly spelled out in the rule book and I just missed them.

  6. Ah I see. so players will usually skype to make the flow of the game easier? I thought there might be a chat dilogue box where players would communicate that I could also see to understand what they were doing.

Nevermind. Maybe ill try and get some guys from the club familiar with the programme so we can try it instead.

Thanks for the quick reply anyway

  7. Hey guys, Im new to the world of Malifaux but have been wargaming for close to 10 years.

Out gaming club has recently taken a huge interest in Malifaux with 6-8 of us all buying initial crews over the past couple of weeks.

While waiting for my 'Tina crew to arrive ive been reading and watching as much malifaux related stuff as possible and came across the Vassal module.

Is it possible or common for people to join the server just to look for a game already underway they can spectate or is this feature not implemented or would it upset the players if somebody asked to simply be there to watch?

    Thanks for any help
