  1. Any reason you chose the Malifaux child? His main advantage is copying a leaders action but as Ramos' 'Summon the swarm' Names a model it cannot be copied and im not sure any of the other abilities there are worth it.

Often ramos crews run either totemless or with the brass Arachnid if you want to give a big construct (like Joss or Howard) re-activate.

Also as a summoner youll want a larger pool that 3 generally. I might suggest dropping one large arachnid for a metal gamin (to beef up ramos Df) freeing up 2 more stones for your pool.

Other than that id say for a starter crew its fairly well set up for Ramos in a lot of situation. You have the creation to die turn 1 to provde scrap for the spider factory and a couple of big hitters with built in Synergy.

  2. So here are the Silurids

I again planned to have them all on the same scenic bases as the rest of the crew but had problems getting the leaping Silurid into a good position on one and so in the end decided to just use the rock he comes with and just paint it up the same style as the others and add the same floral accessories and grass.

    Here are the results

    Silurid number 2

And lastly (not the greatest picture but wanted to get an angle of the belly

    IMG_0952_1.jpg

And a group shot first head on then of the sides to try and show the skin patterns as well as the fins.

Next onto the painitng table will more than likely be the Bkessed of December who can fit into both of my currently painted crews (plus having another leap with the suit built in cant hurt right? ;) ) and probbaly the Rogue Necromancy as the new plastic model is amazing!

  3. As is often the answer in Malifaux - it depends on your strat and scheme pool.

Playing reccon or squatters right? or just have a pool full of 5 scheem marker based schemes? maybe not ideal to take Joss, howard and Johan all in the same crew. you need the numbers to do the objectives efficiently.

Playing Reckoning with a choice of killy schemes? I would say a small elite crew consisting of those three models as a core would be a great place to start. You arnt going to be giving away many strat points and have plenty of killy models to get them yourself.

Generally speaking Ramos can get away with smaller elite crews in many more situations than Mei as with his summons he can soon be out activating the opposing crew even if he only starts with 6 or 7 models. If you have your heart set on playing with 2 beatsticks most games I would try and see if you can get to grips with Ramos first and formost.

If you have your heart set on playing mei, I would rarely consider all three of the models mentioned except in reckoning as mentioned.

  4. Agreed on the value if Johan in a Ramos crew. 7ss is an absolute steal with all the M&SU synergy. Even with just Ramos, joss and the spiders there is more than enough to make use of all his abilities, add Howard and metal gamin and I can't imagine a better crew in game for Johan to fit into.

He has a relic hammer which comes with the usual double positive flip against constructs and a min damage of 3. Also has flurry and gets positive flips to attack when near another M&SU, he loves to be near joss and with spiders all over the place it should be almost trivial to make sure he gets this bonus.

Then there's Hard to kill with a bubble heal which will effect most if not all of your crew.

Then there's the main reason for taking him most of the time, condition removal! I have no problem taking Johan in raspy or Marcus crews, 7ss for H2K, min damage 3 and condition removal is great, add in the other synergies and there's a case to say he's broken in a Ramos crew.

Like Rythos has said I also often take imbued energies on him, for two main reasons. Firstly as was pointed out the ability to walk and then bubble heal for 2ap can often be a life saver, especially in turf war or reckoning. Then there's the threat of walk and flurry. With a 3" reach people will not expect the damage he can put out. Minimum of 9 damage (and assuming you have the positive flips to attack and a couple of cards to cheat in if needed it's not as difficult as it might be for some) to any model within 8" who more than likely wont have a 3" reach themselves and so need to walk if they want to take even 1 swing back at him!

As you can probably tell I'm a big big Johan fan, and with Ramos hes often one of the first names written down (after joss ;) ) for most stratergies.

  5. So when moving onto my Marcus crew I needed to think of a new basing idea and as I had self made the rasputina bases I decided to look into scenic resin bases for the first time.

I grabbed a bunch of these in 30 40 and 50mm trying to represent a collapsed and abandoned temple deep a forgoteen jungle like environment and im fairly happy with how they turned out.

    IMG_0886_1.jpg

SO next to paint some models to put on them. First up was Marcus. My whole Rasoy crew is done in blue so wanted a nice contrast that would also look good against the green foliage on the bases and so went with red.

I tried for some OSL with the blue cursed skull on his staff and it was my first time painting dark skin so a trial for a few techniques that  came out decently enough.

    IMG_0902_1.jpg

Next onto the painting table were my Waldgeists. Mainly because as my second faction im going to be collecting some Neverborn along side my Arcanists and these will be usefull in both factions (along with my Silurids that will come later.)

First I did a standard brown looking tree then for some variation decided to try a silver/grey and black type colour scheme.

     IMG_0915_1.jpg

Here's Marcus with all three youll norice I went for another standard brown scheme for No3 as I like to think of the silver guy as more rare and the brown guys your run of the mill tree men ;)

    IMG_0917_1.jpg

My last update for this post is Myranda. Went for her next as I like to use her with both marcus and raspy as her utility to turn into a beast for any scheme is often vital. I had to add a couple of small extra stone fromt he garden and paint them up to be able to balance her pose.

    And from behind

    IMG_0925_1.jpg

Im currently half way through my Silurids so hopefully get those posted in the next week.

  6. My search to expand my Rasputina crew coincidently coincided with the release of the December acolytes plastic box, so I snapped one up a few months ago and began painting!

Putting them all onto various cork made bases to fit with their image of skulking along cliff ridges in the shadows.

    2ldaq9h.jpg

Next a Frozen heart crew shot, worth noting I managed to get hold of an old metal Rasputina as im not a great fan of the plastic pose. It came painted as I got it from a friend and although I plan on stripping it eventually and painting it up myself I have a huge backlog of malifaux still to paint and so as the existing pain job was great ill just be leaving it for now and coming back to it after I have my Marcus crew fully painted (maybe after Ramos too, we'll see!)

Next my updates from the Marcus crew I recently begun

  7. With most of my club taking more to twitter over the last 6 months I had kinda neglected this thread and just been posting painting pictures on there.

I figured Id just update the thread all at once and show my painting over that time. Its not as much as I would have liked granted but as im currently balancing three different gaming systems I sap ans change between what im currently painting!

So firstly I found that the three gamin looked a bit too uniform all just standing on their icy bases and so I put the rock throwing gamin ontop of a ledge simply made layering some thin cork into a tall tower.

    6qftkm.jpg

Next up was my wendigo. One of my club mates stared the game at the same time as me and plays guild and so I figured I wanted to paint the wendigo victim as one of his crew members using the same bold red colour scheme.

    kb6ayo.jpg

And when deciding upon the colour scheme for the wendigo himself I wanted something earthy in contrast to this bright red and then I saw a picture the forum member Viruk blog which I thought looked great and based my colour scheme upon it.

  8. Another nice report, well worth a watch.

I noticed again you missed off the scheme pool at the start so when you started mentioning scheme markers it's hard for us to guess what they might be for. Just a list of the 5 pool at the start would have been great.

I did like the format of having a camera shot panning the table and corresponding models when you guys were explaining your turn, simple but effective method of showing us what happened and where.

  9. I imagine Malifaux Raptors would be quite good for this one. You can use them to engage enemy ranged units that can cause lot of damage without getting engaged if you let them. If you are against lots of melee models instead, you could also just keep burying them and bringing them back at the end of each turn trying to engage maximum number of enemy models while keeping them out of harms way most of the time.

Malifaux raptors will definitely be great in interference. You can hang them back and with some luck or without your opponent planning specifically for your 3ss model they might even be able to take multiple enemy models out of the strategy. Assuming their Take to the skies ability happens before you calculate VP's?

  10. After having watched the video report it was good and had a nice break down of events at the end of the turn but a couple of suggestions if I may.

I know you were both unrelieved with your schemes but a list of the 5 available would have been great to help us guess what schemes you had and play along at home.

When your opponent was describing what he did last turn maybe point the camera at the board where the events happened and not at him. I know it's nature to want to put someone on camera when speaking but it's a better spectacle when we can see the models as he speaks.

All in all it was a nice report and we'll worth a 12min match.

  11. Oiran's Lure is the same as any other Lure in terms of effects.

Fuhatsu cannot be moved or pushed by anything other than his own Walk actions. He couldn't even take a charge action even if he did have a Cg value. Lure does not work on him.

Makes more sense to me now. As I say I don't have the cards on me but thought the lure worked the same as any other, but if Fuhatsu can't be moved at all except his own Wk then yeah, it won't work anyway.

  12. Fuhatsu can never be pushed, no matter if it's a friend or enemy, so no cigar there, you will have to remove whatever is engaging him.

Don't have the cards on me as I'm at work but is the Orian lure a push rather than a walk ending as close to the Orian as possible like the belles?

  13. I must say it's refreshing to see the first three lists going with three entirely different masters and crews and choosing to do different schemes from the pool. It's part of the joy or arcanists, I never feel pigeon holed into a certain crew regardless of the strats and schemes flipped.

  14. Those schemes scream Marcus to me.

Deliver a message and breakthrough? I'd be half tempted to all out cheese three Silurids. If not then certainly two, maybe add a soulstone miner in that case.

Take Waldgeists and Myranda aswell and Myranda can camp a marker, or give some Waldgeists positive twists to Df flips while they sit on two markers with 4" reach and soft cover. Before herself turning into either a Cerberus or blessed of December for the leap if needed for schemes, if not maybe cojo and go for some area control to deny opponent squat markers.

Then fill with a Cerberus or a couple of canine remains, whatever you feel you lack really as the mentions models are already enough to almost gurantee the schemes.

  15. I don't have my cards on me as I'm at work but the hanged stop any immunity to horror duels right?

How does that interact with Graves and other models who are immune to WP duels in general during thier activation? As the immunity in this case is to all WP duels and not just horror, who's rule wins out?

  16. I like the model and don't mind the size seing as she's similar to her sister, the only problem comes from trying to get my head around the fact she's listed up as a Ht3 model on her stat card, but I'll get over it.

Out if interest is the scenic rock she's on the exact same one that Myranda is posed on? It wouldn't bother me In the slightest but as a mainly Arcanist player it caught my eye. I am however currently viewing the picture on an iPhone so not the best scale to see it with!
