  1. Little update. I went back and forth with the skin as I couldn't really settle on a good look. I tried reverse highlighting with white washes in the shadows (as fire is highlighted this way) hoping it would appear to glow but it didn't look quite right. Then I went with a kabalite green (GW) but I didn't like that either. So I washed it all over with white and a hint of Nihlakh oxide (GW technical) which is sorta flourescent blue/green.

  2. So I finally got my rack in the mail (which ships from Australia) and got it painted and assembled.  Here are some pics and my review.

I was hesitant about painting the MDF board at first because I wasn't sure if it was going to warp, but after some testing, it took the paint just fine.  I chose Rust Oleum Cabernet Stain as I didn't really like the color that the laser cut came in.  (they also have Acrylic but since I'm building my man cave in all wood, this is what I chose.)

I put on one coat of stain and 2 coats of clear protective enamel.

There are options for dropper bottles or GW post 2012 (shown here) (and 2 other choices)  My main gripe is that since I store my bottle upside down to prevent drying out, they don't slide in quite as smooth as the dropper bottles.  The dropper bottles themselves also have very small holes in the tray below for the dropper bottle lid to go in if you do want to put them upside down. However, the bottom rows do not have this.

As you can see from this picture, I have some GW bottles upside down and I think they fit better. So if I could go back, I'd just go with dropper bottle format all over. You'll have more storage that way.

The Large Tidy Draw has 4 drawers with one large compartment and 4 smaller compartments (separated by dividers).

The system is highly modular with rare earth magnets being used to stick everything together.  The assembly design is pretty neat as well with out the nut and bolts hold everything together.

Price - I was pleasantly suprised to learn on checkout that I would not be paying $220 plus since their webiste is priced in Australian Dollars so in the end, I paid $175 with free shipping. they only offer free shipping if you buy the complete rack set, but you can add on additional things and still qualify for free shipping.

An organized station is a happy station :)

  3. I've been researching into Model Railroad buildings in search of buildings for a Wild West Board. I have whittled it down to the following so far.  I really like Laser Cut Wood kits because of their realism look after being weathered with stains and chalks.  The main drawback is they are time consuming to put together, but there is enjoyment there just as in painting models.  They are also on the expensive side as well (ranging from 40-75 each) so that price point can be a barrier as well.

    HO scale = 1:87

    28 mm scale = 1:76

    so they are pretty close.

Scatter Terrain - however, this being HO scale, I'm not 100% it would be large enough for cover.

  4. You know what makes great hanging vines? (yes, this guy is a little cheesy with the jokes but I kinda like him) Fast forward to 2:15 for the tutorial.  I have some GW trees as well and now that you mention it, I think that would make a great swampy tree

ps love the swamp board, very nice, would be fun to play on

  5. I have thought about using HO Scale model train buildings (which is what I used in my Iron Painter Entry).  The scale for HO is 1:87 and 28mm is equal to about 1:76 so it's pretty close but not exact.  The buildings are taller than the mini's and I think that's enough for me.  I don't know, what does anyone else think?

here are some examples I have been piecing together in planning for a Red Chapel Distric

with some cobblestone streets and gas lamps, it would be set :)
