  1. So the high height value of the Poltergeist is just how it happens to be, and not a reflection of it being much larger than the man sized figure that it is? And I knew the base size wasn't optional, I just was wondering if the Ht3 on the card meant it was to be bigger than the one I had was, so was seeing if I needed a rebase to make it legal.
  2. Okay, so I am still very new to Malifaux, but I notice that the Poltergeist is Ht3. The model does not seem to really reflect this, so is there a new model expected? Since I have the current one does it need a bigger base or be made taller, or both? I have some vague modeling ideas if that is the case.
  3. The demo that pulled me in was a 20ss game with a Henchmen and 3 Minions per side. It went nice and fast while still covering the bases. I felt it worked out well, I mean it made me want to pick up a crew.
  4. If Leif Eriksson and the vikings had magic instead of stars and a sense of adventure their landing in Nova Scotia would probably have allowed for settling then, which would coincide with a much early expansion into the Americas (though they wouldn't be called that). So would not violate the decline of magic and keep examples of it's power in ancient times before recorded history.
  5. I'm going with my Teddy in the style of Baby Hugs Bear from the Carebears :1_Happy_Puppet1:
  6. See my Pandora build is all around Wp duels, and letting that tick everything away which is why I don't mind Candy taking time out to heal, especially since she has Casting Expert. I figure Harmless, and Life Leech, and any moment of Terrifying plus Pandora's abilities including her defense will create a web of Wp losses for the enemy without my people having to worry about much besides paralyzing to keep them in the web of influence and keep each other up. It's why I put a Beckoner in to pull enemies into the web and let the aura's do their work.
  7. See, Poltergeist doesn't even seem that squishy to me (granted I'm just looking at stats, not actual tested experience), since it's got Incorporeal, Regeneration, and Candy has the ability to heal, plus if I have a Doppleganger it can heal if I want Candy doing something else. So survivability doesn't seem all that lacking.
  8. But I am applying the rounding after the division... it's just that I'm ONLY doing the division. I divide the number in half and that number is then the only one that matters. Because by dividing it in half I have figured out how much the damage is reduced by, and how much gets through. This added step of going it is reduced by x so now let me take the rounded number away, seems like an unnecessary extra step. I have already reduced it by half by doing the division, and have therefore met the requirements of the RAW, it would be then that I would round, as that is after the division that reduced the damage. So I'm saying the division IS the reduction. So why subtract afterwards? Sorry to be beating a dead horse, I've just come from the GW world where rules lawyers have looked at things and been mindblowingly obstinate on some pretty whacky interpretations, and so when I see some of these I really have to wonder why people see it a certain way. Not saying the people with the other opinion are wrong btw, just not following where this other interpretation comes from. *takes foot out of mouth*
  9. Then following this guideline when you get 3.5 and 3.5 you round, getting 4 and 4. The 3.5 is reducing it by half, then you round as per math and by the rules. Since the wording says 'reduce by half' you get the half, then round. If the damage was 8, would you go "So half of 8 is four, so now I need to reduce the 8 damage by 4, so you take 4 damage"? Or would you go "My 8 damage is reduced by half, so take 4"? I think the latter, so again it would be "You take 7 damage, reduced by half is 3.5, we have to round so take 4."
  10. Ah I see, so the stuff that's done with Beta is coming out end of the month? That again makes me wonder why there is no preorder, as that's even sooner.
  11. This right here. If the Question was instead "How would you calculate 543, reduced by half of 63? (round the answer)" I believe you would end up with 543 minus 31.5, which would give you 511.5, and then you would say your answer was 512. While if you rounded before the subtraction you'd end up with 511 which would not be the correct answer. I can see your point, but I stand by rounding is at the end, not in process. But as with any ruleset there is room for interpretation.
  12. I'm only rounding them both after the fact. The actual damage and reduction is 3.5. So it would be applied as 3.5 reduced and 3.5 taken. It would be THEN that you go "But I can't do it that way, I need to round." So the damage taken would be 4 because that is the result of the rounding after you have calculated half. Yes, it does. It means you reduce the damage by half, as stated above. It does not say split in half then round the reduced by number and subtract.
  13. I am state side, and am at a loss for when things will be official, because while I see 7th of October being bandied about as set in stone the fact that it's the middle of September and pre-ordering still seems to be a non-option I question the validity of the date.
  14. I, as a new player, am failing to see the big confusion whether it is reduced to, or reduced by if you run basic math, but then round at the end there is no confusion. Like in the example several posts back the model takes 7 damage, split in half is 3.5. So 3.5 is not taken, and 3.5 is taken. Now that we have worked that out NOW you round, so 4 was reduced and 4 was taken, and the model that takes half of what was taken takes 2. Sure it would 'imply' 8 damage, but that's irrelvant because that was after rounding which is already messing with the numbers. Why would I split the damage in half, then only round 1 of them, and apply the remainder to the other? That's not in the book anywhere.
  15. I suppose I see what you're saying. I also really don't like the model though haha.
  16. Why? I'm seeing this a fair amount, but I don't see what the big advantage is (at least by the cards I have). Polt's attack targets Wp while Primordial targets Df, Wp triggers Misery. Polt also makes Wp duels easier, which is huge for Pandora and her crew. Polt also doles out Slow, and can cast what Pandora can. Primordial's big things are counting as a scheme (which is situational at best), and making things insignificant (which Pandora or Candy can do with an upgrade of the same cost).
  17. I've picked up... Pandora Lynch Hungering Darkness Candy Baby Kade Teddy Sorrows Doppleganger Illuminated Beckoners Poltergeist So... all the same stuff you do except Primordial Magic and Bad Juju. I'm just curious which is the better Master to lead with.
  18. So I've thrown my lot in with Neverborn, but have reached a dilemma. I originally was behind Pandora 110%, liked the model, the rules, everything. However I then stumbled upon Jakob Lynch, and find him appealing in the same way as Pandora in that neither one is a direct beat things up character they are entirely based off of the synergy of their team and putting all the pieces together to make things work. So I've gotten both of them, and models for their crews (since a fair number of them are worthwhile in either crew). My question is what are people's takes on each of those Masters? I like both, but they seem like opposite sides of the same coin (in a way).
  19. I wish I could find the cards that are the most up to date, I am convinced the ones I have are behind at this point. I am both doing this, and not doing this. I see the wisdom in your words, and I have decided to make my focus Neverborn for the time being (though I am still picking up the new Viktoria crew box), and working with them and playing around with things. As for sticking to smaller games... it's sound advice, but there's so much to play with! It is because of this that I'm going with Neverborn, as they seem to have the most versatility of the Masters I like (Vik and Lady J seem rather 1 dimensional), so I will see how that allows me to attempt this 'tweak to fit the battle' playstyle which is new to me. I'm still used to games where it's build a group and hope for the best.
  20. So, I've been looking at Lynch recently, and I have a question that might be considered a silly one. From the beta cards I've got everything revolves around the 'brilliance characteristic.' Now I see that say the Illuminated has 'Brilliance' on his card under his name, does that mean he has the Brilliance Characteristic? If so then HD is ridiculous.
  21. Due to the fact that this world had magic it might be safe to say that initial ventures of exploration were made simpler and happened sooner. That being the case the landing in the Americas could have happened sooner, and thus colonization and westward expansion. Due to the style of the world that Malifaux has created I envision the breach in California. I say this because it's like the Magic Rush instead of the Gold Rush. The Guild is operating with a seeming authority, but if they had true Govt power there would be no opposition, they are like the Texas Rangers. So that is my theory, California.
  22. If this is true, then my current pdf of their cards is incorrect. Which is highly possible as I viewed the actual cards a friend of mine has and they didn't quite match in some regards. Oh? Am I allowed to take the Malifaux child in Outcasts? I don't think I've seen the card, but I'm working with 2nd hand information at present. I went and bought the Kaeris model, but not the box. Since my initial idea of her crew doesn't include any of the models in her box (I don't like the Gunsmiths). I guess I shall start looking at this approach for Outcasts and Neverborn then, and do Arcanists when Kaeris has rules in October. Being a total newb I'm not sure how to even start doing a breakdown of the schemes, since my first inexpert perception of it is that a killy group works well regardless. But I shall look some more and see what I can come up with.
  23. Castrol Superclean is safe on plastic as well. I've used it to strip down over 400 miniatures at this point and there have been no ill effects. I HIGHLY recommend it. Though I will say it is about 99% effective at taking paint off of metal it's more like 68% on plastics.
  24. I dunno, the Viktoria's is the crew I first went "I'll do them." And having now scanned through a lot and seeing the whole 1.5 is not compatible at present it makes the Viktorias seem rather 'meh' especially since the Librarian seemed to be the ONLY way to even use their fates entwined and that's not possible. So it looks like my best bet then is to either swing over to Neverborn with Pandora (but it seems that's overly popular already from what I've read), or cross my fingers and hope Master Kaeris happens and is awesome.
  25. I understand what you're saying, I really had not considered that at this point because that means investing big time into the hobby, which is likely to happen, but not something I have considered at this stage. My approach with my initial crews was a mix of models I like plus effectiveness. This is also why there are different faction crews. Making each faction crew multipurpose... ugh that will be taxing. I get why it's a good idea, but eesh. As background to my response I am a Warhammer and 40k player, I also have done every other GW game they have released. So I have a sort of Mordheim mindset of build a crew a deal. Also I was excited about the prospect of NOT having to buy a lot of models (wish I could mix and match more, but oh well) to enjoy the games. This is by no means a rebuttal, it's just me saying I had not considered the multi-faceted aspect at this time because that meant sticking completely with a single faction (which I'm bad at) and expanding it. My first faction, and one that I'm actually locked into at present is Outcasts, and I spread out because they seemed rather 1 trick ponies and I liked the models for Kaeris and Pandora then liked their rules too. The Guild group was really to round things out, since as I stated I preferred Sonnia, but her rules seemed like a rehash of Kaeris.
