  1. but why does he die so easy?? His main mechanic is drag you in to hit range. You either gotta nurse him some armor... Or maybe survivalist. Or maybe just murder weak things. j

Maybe that's the point (not saying it's a good point or idea, but possibly...) - maybe he's supposed to be a "bully" type character who picks off weak targets.  Not really a needed role, unfortunately - and I can't think of many instances where he'd be my go-to for his SS cost...

  2. Hopefully a War Rabbit, as I would sort of like one XD

Dark Carnival Coryphee are already announced, so I'm relatively certain we'll see the Dark Carnival set again.  We'll have the remnants of the translucent/special colored crews - maybe a few extra (orange Kaeris? smoke Colette? glitter-bomb Wong? purple Crossroads 7?).  Oh, and we'll see the Carver again, if he's still not out at retail by then :P

  3. Thanks for the unboxing.

I rather like the set - the "cross" Guilty still confuses me as to how he's supposed to work, but the other two are fun (and I doubt I'd actually use 3 in-game, so no big deal). Ligeia is appropriate and Montressor is just creepy.  I actually rather like the plastic Jack - he's got a twisty-turny "Now I'm free" look to him while still obviously being a very troubled soul.

I'm excited to get my set - I threw it in with a few preorders though, so I'll be waiting a bit longer :P

  4. Thanks for the replies, folks!

My pack from GenCon is mostly painted (save a bit of highlighting) and did their chompy duties in our RPG session Saturday night.  Props to Wyrd, the models themselves got lots of compliments on being cool (and cute from our resident pet-class player, while our warlock wanted to know if he could have some as minions).

Looks like my best bet is going to be utilizing them with Kirai (who I need to get...) and Datsue Ba (who's on my to-get list anyway when she releases), so that'll work.  Might give 'em a shot with Yan Lo if the scheme/strategy ever calls for it.  They really are too pretty not to field XD

  5. This always struck me as kind of insane. Crystal-clear RAW is measure from model, not base, so does that mean a small model on a large base...

...is unassailable in melee, since you can't get close enough?

... should have other models stepping on its display base?

... needs to be house ruled as "measure from the edge" to be functional?

Bases are irrelevant in AoS - you can land on top of another model's base if there's physical room and there's nothing stopping you from plunking down your Dreadlord right on top of the 120mm round scenic base your opponent built for his Chaos Lord (other than, you know, common courtesy, but at that point you'll have to say "Okay, we're in range and my model is currently in the same spot as the Orc skull on your base...no that one...that one...that one...good Lord man, how many Orcs did you kill?")

Pretty much don't do silly things like try to use your base to extend your combat/target range, because bases don't count

  6. SC - Ah, yes - Kingdom Death - I forgot about them. Hold onto your resins though! I was talking to the creator at Gen Con and he says they are going the route of plastics for the actual game and bye-bye to resin cepts those limited releases... and they aren't as nice looking. :(

That's primarily because KD made a killing on Kickstarter and was able to upgrade.  I'd argue as to "aren't as nice looking" too, as most of the comparison images are favorable to the plastics.  Additionally, the plastic shift allowed for a lot of extra bits to be added in, which comes in handy in a game where equipment is important...or for those of us who have an absurd desire to convert :P

To remain on topic - I must admit that AoS has revitalized my interest - but only because now I get to put them on 30mm round bases! I thought that they were killing off a majority of the races at first but actually they just lumped them together - that's the only thing I was really worried about. If I couldn't play dwarfs I just wouldn't play the game - I know that sounds dumb and doesn't make sense but that's how I feel - as stubborn as it sounds...

    ... stubborn as a dwarf even? >8)

Measuring from any part of the model could be interesting with all my conversions... :/

The dwarfs actually came out rather well in AoS, from what I can see.  Just flicking through the scrolls, I don't see a lot of "I'd never use these anymore" units, and there's a fair bit of synergy between unit types.

The measuring thing is a bit weird, but ends up not mattering once you get into the thick of things from what I can tell.

Also, aren't dwarfs going to look extra stunty on 32mm bases? :P

  7. So does our order number mean nothing? Are things packed and shipped by how much you spent? How little you spent? Are the papers affixed to a wall and darts thrown at them? Maybe the entire stack is thrown in the air and things are packed as they get picked up? Psychic selection from cats?

    Shipping Room Gremlins.

  8. Order 4395 arrived today! Woo!  Got a look at it over lunch - some of the bits fell off the Komainu sprue, sadly.  The packer caught the head piece that fell off, but having searched the box and bags, it appears that a foot went missing, so I'll have to fill out a bits form after work.

Ah well - everything else looks great! Especially Miss Anne Thrope - great work!

  9. There are definitely a few hiccups in the rules, but it's mostly cinematic fun.  My friend and I rather enjoyed ourselves with it.  It's by no means a competitive experience and shouldn't be treated as such, but it's a good basic introduction to movement shenanigans, order of operations, engagement ranges, and unit interactions/synergy.  Add in some of the terrain and things get to be more silly fun.

It's a gateway drug to tabletop gaming - you can start it for relatively cheap and get some very pretty models.  You can pretty much buy a box or two and a blister and be good to go - probably still cheaper to go the Skirmish game route, but I can't complain about cost of entry for AoS since I don't need to purchase any rulebooks.

Hell, I've been in GW stores and the manager has only suggested the books to me in the event I want the background and art.  The gaming scenarios within are apparently not even a selling point (or maybe they're not a selling point to me and he knows that, since I bought End Times nonsense because I loved the setting/plot).

  10. Neverborn/Resurrectionist master based off of Sweeney Todd.  Close combat, bleed effects, Pull-based movement shenanigans.  Mrs. Lovett Henchwoman, corpse-counter based healing, grim realization that heals an enemy a bit but then inflicts status debuffs as they realize what they've done.  Minions are undead, possibly called "Leftovers".

Mainly I see a very pissed off Neverborn infiltrating human society and punishing them by feeding them to each other and screwing with them by raising up the remains to sow further discord.

  11. So I picked up a box of these to use as spirits in an RPG I'm running (they look lovely and malevolent), but I barely ever see them mentioned in actual Malifaux tactics.

I ask you, fair people of questionable morals and decay levels, when do you use the little creepers with the massive case of the munchies?

    Thanks!

  12. I actually find a lot of the metals to be more obnoxious than the plastics - metal Wyrd has a tendency to either be a brick or share modeling cues with Infinity - tiny joins that are nigh impossible to pin.  The early plastics can be difficult to clip, but given they're plastic you can use proper plastic glue and it holds far better than super glue on metal.

Tweezers might help if your fingers are lacking some dexterity.  Be sure to use plastic glue, too.

  13. Usually some background TV show or something - something I've seen a lot of times.  I like the random conversation and lack of information better than trying to listen to a podcast or something where I'm going to want to pay attention.

Music doesn't really work for me to focus.

Actually, come to think of it, some of my best painting work came from when I had 80s-90s horror movies playing.  Hmm...maybe I should stick to that...
