  1. So, I see that some boxes are getting new sculpts and some are just being reissued with the new packaging.

Do we have any info on which boxes, exactly, Wyrd is planning on redesigning in the near future?

Mostly interested in Titania, Yan Lo, Zoraida and Kirai. I like their current sculpts, but if there's news on possible redesigns for any of them, I might as well hold on so I can compare.

  2. ^

A cross between her and the less comical, more badass Toni we actually got was pretty much what I was hoping for.

[...]but I must admit I'm no longer considering her as one of my potential masters.

Changed my mind. I've had time to recover from the shock and consider the fact that a) she still looks cool, B) I love her rules, and c) I like the sound of her crew. I don't usually get so dead set on what I want a character to look like. I'm usually way more flexible, so I just needed some time to get used to it.

So long as the Oxfordian Mages and Mouse turn out OK, I might still eventually use her. Maybe. There's like, at least a half dozen other Masters I'm interested in, but at least she's back in the running, now.

  3. Were people expecting Toni to be a bit like brienne of tarth from game of thrones?

More like a cooler version of Pam Poovey from Archer or Ms. Trunchbull from Matilda, in my case.

Mulling over what I said before, I just want to reiterate that I wasn't intending to throw any negativity around. What I said about how I was hoping Toni would turn out is less about complaining and more about showing Wyrd that there is an audience out there for that type of character, if they ever decide to try that out some other time.

For now, there's still plenty of other masters I'm interested in using.

  4. Very underwhelmed by her. Was hoping for something a lot bigger and less pretty. Basically, a big burly beast of a woman with huge arms and a face you know has been bruised more than a few times (a well done nose would have done wonders for this). The current concept is another cute as a button girl that happens to be a beater of epic proportions even if her arms are tissue thin and we already have a ton of those, specially when her skit is based on taking punches and hits to get pissed off and her small frame just doesn't say "I can take a good amount of punches!", with Lady J I sort of accept it at this stage of the game since they were going for the "godsword" theme as well as with Misaki and Mei Feng and Lilith being a demonspawn doesn't really have any problem with that, but had my hopes up on Toni breaking the non descript tabu of having a burly not pretty by the norm woman that is an amazing badass and could have probably been middle aged too.

Absolutely nailed my opinion of Toni. I was so utterly, unreasonably, irresponsibly excited at the prospect of having a stocky/beefy, older, non-sexualised, not conventionally attractive[*] female character in a tabletop game. And you're right that the idea of someone who can take hits would have led me to expect a beefier character.

I don't want to be that guy that says "Wyrd crushed my hopes and dreams with a single character design", but I must admit I'm no longer considering her as one of my potential masters. But, to end on a positive note, I will say that, although she didn't fulfill my hopes and dreams, she is definitely way cooler than I expected. Mad props on the complete lack of sexualisation, in particular. That, at the very least, made me smile. And she is a cool design. Definitely not the design I wanted, not one I'm interested in using, but still pretty cool.

[*]It seems that when a female character isn't attractive, she has to be ugly. It's the whole Madonna/whore, beautiful/ugly issue. Female characters tend to be defined by their attractiveness or lack of - they're either attractive or ugly. If Wyrd had gone down the Beefy Toni road, I'd hoped she would have been plain. Maybe not homely plainness, perhaps a not particularly attractive, slightly masculine plainness. Just so long as she wasn't presented as being hideous (like Zoraida and Sybelle). Yamaziko's a pretty good example of a non-hideous not-attractive character. Unless you're into your GILFs, she ain't pretty, but she's not a Zoraida-like hag. Guess there's not much point discussing it here, just wanted to expand on how I'd imagined Toni.
