  1. A bit slow on the hobby front at the moment as I've run out of models to paint, which has never happened before. I've gone back and re-touched the emberling, originally I aimed for a light metallic look which worked in my head a lot better than it did on the model. I've gone for a more classic molten look now with the dark sections. I've also just received my gaming board. A friend who does shop display boards for work knock this up for me as a favor. Not ideal for transport but looks great on the table.
  2. The Dr is finished! Sort of. Once again touching up a little mistake has left a bigger one, I'll have to go back and smooth out the colour on the coat but I'm mostly happy with the Dr and his friends
  3. I'll look into it. Cheers looking back the early ones are very bright.
  4. Cheers. The early pictures do look a bit harsh, they were a bit rushed and as with many photos looked great on the small screen then when you see them full size you realise everything is focused on one models left foot.
  5. Finished Sebastian last night. Loved painting this model, the face and coat were great for practicing layering and the was plenty of excuses to add some blood splater. I hated building him, it took me ages to line the hands up and I'm still not happy with them. This may of had something to do with lack of sleep and being on the last dregs of my glue.
  6. Malifaux league. Sign up and details on the Dark Sphere Malifaux events page https://www.facebook.com/events/253822494829046/
  7. The nurses are finished! Trying to challenge my self a bit with painting this crew, these didn't end up with the cleanest finish but I think they're a step up technique wise.
  8. Made a start on the nurses, lovely models to paint. Still a fair bit of work to do but I'm liking how they look so far.
  9. A bit of progress on the new crew, decided to try some resser fun with Dr McMourning and friends.
  10. No miniature progress this week but I did manage to get some simple scheme markers done. The idea is to add some fun to them at some point but for now they do the job.
  11. No restrictions, just 26ss take what you want. It'll be fairly casual more about having a fun game or two and meet other player than any sort of competition. Great that you signed up, see you there.
  12. A night of malifaux. For new players to try out the game and for experienced players to get a 26ss game in and meet fellow players. I'll will be running demos and there will be enough tables set up for everyone to be able to be paired up for a game or two. We had a great response to this last time and I'm hoping for even better this time. As always Dark-Sphere London are nice enough to let me host this in their great shop, please follow their club rules re behavior and table fees etc. Any questions just ask and I hope to see you there. You can sign up on the Dark sphere malifaux events page. https://www.facebook.com/events/1497409840497382/
  13. Progress has been made. Kang has been fixed and the rest tidied up. I'm not too keen on the skin tone still but not too bad.
  14. I thought I'd start posting a few pictures of my finished and ongoing projects to help keep my motivation levels up. I'm a bit of a rush painter and I do have a bad habit of changing the colour scheme midway through a project so I wouldn't say the final effect is clean but it works. The Ortegas were my first crew brought, built and painted in a night to get ready for my first game the following day. Quite a few re touches planned for the family Marcus and his beasts I really like but haven't managed to play a game with yet. Sonnia and her flock of witchling were painted over a few weeks so the style changes a bit from model to model. Raspy and the snowmen were the quickest crew I've painted. Took me longer to get the golems arms to sit right than to paint. Lady J with added low marshal (i know its lone but with the hat change he's now my low river marshal) Lots of techniques tried here some worked better than other. My current project. Mei fang is still in hte early stages and Kang had a bit of an accident (i wave my hands as I talk, if you add a paint filled brush and a model closer than you think you get four big black lines on kangs face and chest) Plus I tried to fix it a silly o clock and now he has a purple head. He'll be fixed when I paint Mei. Thanks for sticking with the pictures and the prattle I'll try and keep this up date with what ends up on my painting table.
  15. Thanks, Glad I was playing it correctly. The tips about the austringer are great, I didn't notice the raptor only gains the with focus, so at 12" or less I can throw my bird into combat. Cheers for the help.
  16. Quick question about focus, I wanted to make sure I'm playing this right. Do you get the focus benefit and the range increase? How I read it... Nino standard has a natural to attack Nino focus = his range increases due to his description on his AND he gets the standard benefits of focus to attack and damage. So he would end up being able to focus and then take a with to attack range 36" and to damage. Austringer would focus and end up range 18 with to attack and damage. No one has questioned me playing it like that yet but I have seen people play it with focus just gives the increase to the range?
  17. Follow up on this. I've managed to get a few games in recently. Tried to push myself to play against people I know are good players. Managed a catastrophic defeat. But it was fun a I could see where I went wrong, so good time had all round. Most recently took a bit more time over picking crew etc and managed a close win with a lot of back and forth between us. Cheers for the advice.
  18. RYTHOS42 - Cheers for the link I'll give it a look. Planning around VP points and picking points each turn make sense and then that plan tells you what you need to activate etc. I'd guess that also dictates deployment as well when you know who is doing what you'll know who needs to go where. RANCOR709 - I've got no problem with competitive play. I enjoy a challenging game you learn more and the hard games are the ones you remember. I'm just not very good at it. The only bad experience I've had playing malifaux was giving someone a "friendly" demo game and they were less than sporting to give them more credit then they deserve. Playing what you know would probably make big difference i do have a habit of learning as i go. Pick the right schemes and work to complete them and stop opponent scoring. Thanks for the advice, I'll get practicing.
  19. Hi I'm fairly new to Malifaux and I'm really enjoying it. I'm looking for some advice on playing a bit more competitively without being "a dick" about it. Generally speaking I play malifaux for the fun, the fluff and the social side of it. I've got no problem losing 9 time out of 10 as long its a laugh. But I've found lately that I'm facing a few people who take things more seriously. Which I'm guessing its not too exciting for them to play someone who picks their crew by thinking that looks fun. And i'd prefer if there isn't going to be any banter during the game I shouldn't worry about pushing for the win. I play guild so on paper I have everything I need to be competitive but I struggle looking the game that way. A few thing are obvious like picking my crew for the schemes and strategies flipped not because I prefer certain models fluff. But things like deployment and activation order I know I should think more about. Also do I aim to pick up VP early on or focus more on killing off the opposing crew? Any advice would be great, sorry about rambling on a bit.
  20. Cheers for the advice, think I'll take the plunge and get the rail crew and a couple of other toys as well. I might invest in book 4 after a few games.
  21. I picked up the 1.5 rule book any really like the idea of the game system. Looking at the models in the store I like the look of the Rail Crew maybe with a rail golem thrown in for good measure. The details for the rail crew are not in the 1.5 rule book so I'm guessing they are in one of the expansions... The question after a bit of rambling is do I need the appropirate expansion to play Rail crew or will everything I need be on the character cards/1.5 rules?
