  1. As a fellow noob & avid Kaeris player, I would suggest Johan, Willie & 2 Union miners as your objective grabbers. This will set you back 20 ss in your crew, but will give you a solid base to build from. I also find I get more from my crew then I get from Kaeris (probably just my playstyle). There is an excellent thread further done this page titled " Getting the most out of Kaeris as a master" & the always helpful pullmyfinger wiki for more information.

    Have fun w/her she's a blast to play with!

  2. As the progenitor of this thread, I thought I would report back & share my experiences. Well I've played everal more games w/Kaeris as my master & a couple more w/her & Mei Fang (I just got Ramos, as well getting ASonnia, Sonnia Box, filled out my Dreamer crew, & a buttload of Arcanists. Mmmmm,...more Ebay!) I've had mixed results so far, but thing are looking much better, my record has improved & my only 2 losses have been w/Mei Fang, while w/my Kaeris led crews have gone 3 wins & 2 draws.

    The worst loss was against Yan Lo, I ran Mei Fang & Emberling, w/Kaeris, Student of Conflict, 2 LSA, & a Rail Golem. This game taught me that "Banzai!!!!", may not always be the best course of action,(Resurrecting Izamu, wtf ?!?), & that crew selection is more then, what kicks the most ass! The most satisfying win was against Hoffman. This game I brought Kaeris, Kang, Johan, Willie, & 2 Gunsmiths. He had the deliver a message, assassinate Kaeris, & steal Relic all of which he accomplishes in the 2nd round. Who knew that the Hoff & Peacekeeper could move that freakin' fast? I sure didn't! With perseverance & the right crew I still accomplished all of my goals, tableing him, thereby squecking out a 8-7 win! Despite his Incredible top-decking & me seeing the Black Joker every freaking turn, I found out if you keep your eye on the proverbial ball, you can still pull victory out of almost certain defeat!

    The thing I have noticed while playing Kaeris is that I tend to use her more as a distraction & objective grabber then actual offensive piece. While this is great, & has really pushed me to figure out how to pick & run a crew, able to accomplish their combined goals with or without her contributing that much. I am still trying to figure out how to up her damage output, the occasional Immolate & Accelerant, really haven't helped me out as much as her wings & Firewall. Go figure. I think I'm going to try & get a secondary & possibly tertiary source of burning tokens. This will entail adding either Fire Gamin (I have six & am contemplating running all of them, Willie & Soulstone Miner, if I ever run into Viks or Gremlins, which I haven't.), or Railworkers, & I am not to terribly enamored w/either. The last thought would be Iggy, but he is incredibly fragile, & when he starts Inciting his way upfield, he just becomes a big target( especially after a well placed Playing w/Matches). If only his Ranged Expert ranged attack gave Burning Tokens (Huh?), oh well.

    The point of these meandering was just to give a heartfelt "Thanx !", to one & all to those that have contributed to this thread, & would appreciate any thoughts on how get some more damage output out of Kaeris.

    Lastly I am preparing for Magcon (my first tournament), so I want to remind my fellow Texans to register now, & lets show them support. The more that register greater the prize support, & it's all for a good cause to boot!

  3. I played w/ my Willie twice last night & he was instrumental in both of my well laid plans. In the first game he laid down two evidence markers & killed the railworker holding the treasure counter in turn 6 (Right before eating a jackhammer kick to the sack). Then sabotaged a building & was in my opponents deployment for turf war at the end of the game.

  4. I got a game in w/Kaeris last night & got my first win! It was a 30 ss match against Maccabe, & the game was great! It had a real cinematic feel to it, & was great fun. I am getting a much better feel for the game & didn't have to keep searching the cards for what to do next really helped the flow of the game. I took Kaeris, Gunsmith, LSA, Johan, 2 Union Miners, & Willie, against I am guessing is a pretty standard McCabe (his Box & a Warden) list.

    The Union Miners are just what the doctor ordered, & allowed me to put pressure on my opponent from the get go, & were surprisingly hard to kill thanx to there bury mechanic. MS & U provided a lot of synergy & the miners provide a cheap minion that does something besides dies explosively.

  5. Well I got two more games in, both losses, but my crew still performed (either that or i performed better). As I have not received my reinforcements, i ended playing w/ a bunch of fire gamin, & man do they die quick, almost seems like they are completely overcosted. Hell, that's probably just my inexperience. They just don't seem to stick around long enough to be worth there price.

    Any ideas on getting the most out of them?

    Hey Rathnard, I thought you said on your podcast that you don't like the Rail Golem??

  6. Well, i put my order on for 2 large steampunk arachnids & willie the demolitionist, i'm thinking at 35 ss my list would look like this:

    Large Steampunk Arachnid

    Willie the Demolitionist

    I am still trying to figure out what are my best options with schemes & such, but thanx for all the help

  7. .Thanx for the advice guys! I am definitely picking up Mei Feng & the Rail Crew, I think they look amazing, & will obviously synergies well w/Kaeris & all the burning counters it can put out.

    So let's say I am playing a 35 ss game, my crew (because of limited model) consists of:

    Kaeris (3 ss cache)

    2 Gunsmiths

    Iggy

    Soulstone Miner

    3 Fire gamin

    I have 3 model w/pretty good movement (for Arcanists), 4 models (besides Kaeris) that put out burning counters, & 2 versatile ranged fighters. What schemes & strategies should I look at? Which ones should I avoid? How would you play this list? I realize that it's this really general, especially without knowing the opponents crew, but generalities are ok!

  8. First off I am a complete noob to Maulifaux. I only have 5 games in & my record is 1-4. I am currently playing in the "The Dead of Winter achievement league, & have played against a variety of opponents (twice against McCabe, Zoraida, McMourning, & Von Schill & the Friekorp), & I'm the kind've player that doesn't mind losing, because I learn more from having my ass handed to me. Please trust me when I say, I am really working hard at trying to give my opponents the best game that I can! I have have read all the pullmyfinger articles on the models I have, searched these Forums for all relevant information, read every battle report that features Kaeris, & am willing & able to purchase other models. These are the the current models I have at my disposal:

    Kaeris

    2 Gunsmiths (love these guys, wish they had more sculpts)

    6 Fire Gamin

    Iggy

    Soulstone Miner

    I understand that as Henchmen, she will be at disadvantage vs true masters (kind've why I picked her, played Dark Eldar in 40k). What my problem is how do you put it all together? Is it just my limited model selection as of yet, my rather limited experience, choice of schemes, or most likely a combination of the above?

    We usually play at 25-35 SS scrap, with 30 being the most common (Tourney size).

    So here are my Questions:

    Optimal list w/what I have?

    What to get next?

    What Schemes are Optimal for Kaeris?

    How tight of grouping should I keep her crew?

    I know this Is kind've general, but I would appreciate any advice I can get, before I start learning the other 2 masters I own! (Lady J, & the Dreamer).

  9. I just bought a Lady Justice crew off ebay, but unfortunately the cards were not included & i would eventually like to take her to tournament. I have read in the official tourney rules that photocopied cards are not allowed, so my question is where can I get official cards without having to buy a box set.

  10. I have just started playing Malifaux & have only 2 games played both w/Kaeris. Prior to the game I was told that that Kaeris doesn't have a 6:tomes:tomes on her CB, & but a 6 :tomes, which makes sense because of on her triggers there is one one light & one boldfaced :tomes, denoting one as already possessed. We went & played it as that, & i came away w/a 1-1 record. (Hooked, bought 2 more crews from different factions( So I can decide on a faction, but mostly to play w/my kids & try to hook my unsuspecting friends! ;P). The thing is I went through all three of the faq's & couldn't find anything that states that. I am fine w/her only having one, but at the same time I don't want to be not using a potentially useful ability or having to cheat in cards that I would rather keep in my hand!

    So if somebody can help a fella out?

  11. Greetings from Houston!

    A couple of months ago I decided it was time to move on from 40k, w/their recent edition my army just didn't play the way I wanted it too anymore, & I just couldn't justify spending the time & hundreds of dollars, to make it work or to start another army. Also as a father of 2 daughters that were taking an interest in my hobbying, i decided to make a switch. So after some time looking scanning the net I came a cross Malifaux, said what the hell & jumped in w/both feet! I bought the small rulebook, 2 fate decks, 2 boxes of terraclips w/connectors & 2 starter boxes (Kaeris & the Dreamer + a blister of Daydreams). I have read the rulebook, bookmarked the pullmyfinger wiki & prepped my models for painting. The thing is I am more of a learn from experience kind've guy & am looking for a couple of demo games to get my feet wet & a regular gaming group to play in, before teaching my girls. So anybody in Houston out there playing Malifaux, I would love to play some games & I am willing to travel to get them.
