  1. I highly recommend that Skill reference. Knowing what the Associated Aspects are is really helpful, and reduces Fated Almanac look-up time.

Cetiken inspired me to update my own .xlsx cheat sheet. I originally just had Skills, but General Actions is a good idea too... I print mine out like a pamphlet so players have both refs so they're not flipping the page.

    Comments welcome!

  2. In 1.5 fluff, while visually and physically Malifaux seems similar in many ways, several viewpoints and characters describe overall colors to be more saturated than Earth, especially when just crossing from Earthside. As for the "seasons" Aaron mentioned, weather seems to be super chaotic Maliside. A big part of the opening story is having heavy snowfall in Malifaux's equivalent July (see the Breachside Broadcast), most likely due to the machinations of a certain Cult. Don't be afraid to have the City breath and be an environmental harbinger of Destiny Steps to come for players.

For other crunch, I believe it's been stated Malifaux has a 24 hr day, 365 day year, but length of daylight/nighttime per season might be different (ie different axial tilt, assuming Malifaux exists as a planet?).

  3. It took me a little under a year, but my first Through the Breach campaign, Metempsychosis in Malifaux (or MiM), just concluded last weekend. What an awesome ride! Both myself as FM and my three to five Fated had quite a ride, and I think everyone is chomping at the bit to start TtB #2 after I take a break and be a player for a little while in some DnD/PF campaigns.

In any case, with MiM done, I actually have an interesting podcast opportunity now. In addition to creating and managing an Obsidian Portal wiki for MiM, since Session 3 (of 22), I have recorded our sessions. Now, I have zero Podcasting experience (other than being a guest in a few), but I’m willing to learn, edit, and publish these sessions over my downtime in the summer if there’s enough interest. I know I personally enjoyed the Through the Breach Podcast RPG recordings while they were playing; I just need to know I wasn’t the only one and such a publication would be of interest to the M2E/TtB community.

And finally, my Plea. Free RPG day is coming up on June 20th, and Wyrd is publishing their free RPG one-shot, Recruitment Drive. Now typically I don’t mind scrounging for the digital copies of such special items, but I’m kind such a big fan of TtB, I really hope to obtain the actual hardcopy and stay completionist to the TtB franchise. Problem is, the closest participating store to me is around 200 miles, and it’s not feasible for me to make the special trip to *maybe* get a copy. Is there any way I could convince a fellow TtB Wyrdo to pick up a second copy for me and send it my way? I’m more than willing to pay for shipping, even inconvenience pay, I just need that book!

    Comments and questions welcome!

  4. I'm not sure the best place to put this, but to add color to Campaign games and, more notably, TtB, I whipped up some rudimentary versions of Guild Scrip to help my players keep track of their economy. With how much cash is exchanged during some of my sessions, I thought props like the below would be helpful and help immersion. It's regrettably done on PowerPoint (so I only had so many tricks to play with without Photoshop), and I reserve the right to return to the designs and add a bit more "Victorian banknote" flair later.

And just to cover my backside, all images are ownership of Wyrd Miniatures, LLC, and this file should only be used for entertainment.

    Cheers!,

  5. I've been looking cover to cover between the books... but can anyone cite for me the page that describes how a Fatemaster character (NPC) flips for damage? I vaguely recall that the +/- damage flip modifiers after a successful hit determines this during the Beta (was it any [-] is Weak, straight is Moderate, and [+] is Severe?), but I wanted to find where in the book(s) it explicitly states this. Thanks!

  6. I always thought Necropunks are the undead remains for Gremlins, modified so far that they loose their Gremlin characteristic. I have the metal models, and I always found their faces impish and gremliny.

For me, trying to limit it to one each...

    Guild:   Guild Hounds

    Resurrectionists:   Guild Autopsies

    Arcanists:   Large Arachnid

    Neverborn:   Stitched Together

    Outcast:   The Guilty

    Ten Thunders:   Tengu

Gremlins:   Moon Shinobi... might have misunderstood the title's premise, but if we see a separate box of these guys, I assume that mandates that the Brewmaster starter would be out also, which is the main goal. I bet Rancor

  7. In Malifaux 1.5, Ratty had (well, still has) a fantastic website at http://malifaux.nezumi.me.uk/ that offered some resources for players, including templates, apps, card updates, etc. One of the items I would be interested in seeing again for the M2E card format is his "Card Creator: Photoshop Templates." I know it's always questionable when game resources can be player-generated instead of bought, but I think this can still be used innocently for a variety of game-improving applications:

    • Personally, I'd use it to create "Dramatic Time" PC cards for combat-intensive sessions. I'm one of the FM's that like tying the skirmish rules/tabletop play in TtB when combat infrequently breaks out. Having the Character Sheet(s) slimmed down into a model card would really be appreciative to my players during these types of sessions.
    • Henchmen and/or Story Encounter TO's can use it to create unique characters or upgrades for their events. Imagine creating professional-looking printouts of your interpretation of Krampus, or modifying the Arcanist Decoy/Killswitch (did I get those right? I don't have my book handy) upgrades into randomly explosive candy for a Halloween encounter...

So, I guess I should ask, 1) does such a resource already exist, and if not, 2) am I the only one that would appreciate it?

    Cheers!

  8. Just a suggestion, Maybe have a link between the wiki's too? Ie have mcmourning in PMF link to the fluff wiki and vice versa. Maybe someone new is trying to get an idea for the story and like a character, and want to see tactics?

Excellent idea! It would be an easy interlocking to do. I vote yes!

  9. I'd like to revitalize this topic, especially with the advent of digital 1.5 books, where new-er players can now more easily access excellent canonized fluff. I read in here earlier that Nathan said to hold off on a fan-base pursuit on this... but that was about a year ago. I know I'd appreciate a centralized fluff location for inspiration for a) customizing story encounters B) Through the Breach sessions c) painting and modelling (ie anyone else attaching a Silurid to their NM Whiskey Golem?) d) board terrain, and I don't think I'm not the only one.

I think part of it is everyone (wisely) is waiting for Wyrd's OK to proceed on their IP, but no one is making any suggestions on how to make a compromise to proceed forward. I know a site like this is doable because it's been done before; I'm confident the Lexicanum helps, not hinders, Black Library sales for WH40K fluff. I think a well monitored Malifaux version can equally enrich our game's environment.

Here's some ideas I have/ willing to break ground on. Comments are wildly welcome though!:

    1)   Put it on wikispaces. This is primarily because Pull My Finger is on wikispaces, and active users/editors/mods would have the same toolbox they have in PMF.

    2)   Name it "Make a New Entry: The Malifaux Story Wiki." Both a tip-of-the-hat to the guys who created and run PMF, and I think it would be fitting to mirror both wiki-platform and naming scheme to existing resources. Yay Hannah reference!

    3)   Strict rules against bulk copy/pasting! By far the hardest hurdle, again especially now that published 1.5 and M2E fluff is even easier to plagiarizer. At the same time, obviously Wyrd is willing to take this risk (or else they won't offer their IP digitally), and again other game systems seem to have healthy, non-infringing fan-pages.

    4)   Every model (and non-models!) has a trivia section. I think this would be the funnest part to compile. What are all the names Seamus has given his Rotten Belles across the canon? Is Marcus really McMourning's college professor, AND dating Dr. Doug's niece, Myranda? Who were the compatriots of English Ivan's short story? How did Lazarus become a Freikorps, and why does he hate the Guild? What is the suspected origin of Zoraida's name during design? What's the name of the ghostly bell tower mentioned in the TtB Fated Almanac? The list goes on!

    5)   Clear distinction between canon and fanfic. Either each model must have two separate sections (Canon versus FanFic), or very rigorous work sited at the end of each page. Ideally, my vision is each model has a Sources list of both short story title and their parent publication (1.5 book, Wyrd Chronicles, Iron Quill, etc.) for readers to investigate later.

    6)   No rules or rules discussions. Again, that's what the Pull My Finger TACTICA is for. This is meant to be a sister-project to pick up the fluff that PMF ignores, while PMF covers the game strategies that MaNE ignores.

What do you guys think? Again, discuss! The more attention and demand we can bring to this, the more likely we can get into Wyrd's good graces. Cheers!

  10. Hungering Darkness finished. One thing that always bugged me was his 3" melee Tendril attack, even though the model has no physiological hint of this weapon. So, I tried to really show it with the base, shooting for a rushing tendril of darkness erupting out of the carpet of Jacob's Honeypot Casino. Now, on to NM Tara's box for the Sept challenge, which you can see soom of my WIP on Facebook right now.

  11. Now that school's started, I'm strapped for hobby time. Just a quick update though, here's where Hungering Darkness is at. He's ready to base, but I can't find one particular basing material that I want to use after the move. Hopefully I come across it soon. In any case, this was the first time I attempted mixing metallics with non-metallic pigments... pleasantly surprised with the effect, will probably continue it into the Illuminated and Depleted:

I was hoping to submit the crew for the September Painting Contest that EricJ tweeted, but I already had Jacob done by 9/1 unfortunately. With luck, I might tackle NM Tara instead in the later half of the month. We'll see!

  12. @Webmonkey: Cool, thanks for the tips! I'll definitely be looking at those pages. Do you have a particular paint/brush to recommend for such finite work?

Tonight, Ashes and Dust. I tried to keep not only the green flame theme, but also the purple flesh theme of the SPA's present too, especially since AnD and SPA's synergize so much. I didn't quite get the bruised flesh quite right unfortunately (that's why you always save your mix notes!), let alone a non-attempt at OSL. This has been the only time I've been tempted to strip a model. Haven't yet though, 'cause I know the moment I open that can of worms, I'll never finish a model. With a whole Dark Debts to paint and minimal hobby time, I'm more concerned about finishing models, learning from mistakes, then moving on.

So, here's the monster himself, aka "Grateful Dead" at tournaments:

And (a poorly photoed... sorry!) Ashen Core:

As always, comments and critiques welcome up to this point. For tomorrow I'm going to be more cryptic; would you like a model from a Malifaux book cover (including M2E), or a pair I nickname Spring and Autumn?
