  1. Falling the Fly is a very cool origin story. Very fitting for a superhero looking master, I love how it's told from a perspective of a younger character in this particular case. I remember Kaeris made an appearance in two completely different stories in Twisting Fates.

In the story about the steamfitter girl who worked under Kaeris, Anasalea was portrayed similar to the mistress character in this story (at least the part she was playing) and in the story about Misaki fighting some Dervish gang she was more of a conniving criminal.
It's nice to see all the sides of this character portrayed.
I'd like to see more stories by Justin in the future ;)
  2. I just got my Crossroads book two days ago and I'm savoring the stories at a very slow pace.
My favorite story so far is Last call at the Gray Lord. It has so much character, gives ressers a new face with the comradery between two characters and it shows Kirais softer side. Very well balanced humor and seriousness unlike a movie I've watched yesterday which had a similar balance.

The story Sacrifice has a lot of grit and I love the Alyce and Leve and their dynamism/relationship in it. "The enemy" stays a bit too faceless in the story for my taste, but then it would change the story in another direction if they were fleshed out more.
I enjoyed the feel of Malifaux market in it and the mention of hobbies of the main characters make them more rounded.

I wish there was an Ophelia/kin story, because those guys don't have a story that's about them yet.

I've read most of the model descriptions, but the Guild Hound entry stood out and made me love those guys a bit more.
I love the whole theme how Malifuax changes animals into more wild or how it gives them more self-awareness.

I might post more reactions after I've read a couple more...

  3. I have better results against Guild with my swampfiends than Gremlin lists since I usually use gremlins for tournaments.
I might switch to neverborn for tournaments since there are three guild players in my meta.
Actually there is a fourth guild player and also an Ortega, but I still haven't played against him once...
I've played only once against Ortegas. I usually face Lady J and Sonnia and they also like to wipe the floor with little green guys.

Ortegas seem pretty sturdy and I haven't tried my Pandora or Lilith against them yet.
I'm toughening up for a rematch from the previously mentioned player since I'll try to beat him up with Lilith this time around.
Just got me some nice wave 2 upgrades for said game (mimicky Tuco and mimicky mature lead by a winged Lilith).
I'll try killing Enslaved nephilim with Tuco early on, but I'm afraid I'll just sacrifice him. Depends on Initiative and who sets up his crew first really.

  4. @Dirial: You mean, you use boxed Papa? Like deliver him over to the enemy? That sounds interesting.
Currently I only have Miss Terious, but I'll get a few more if I get Tara I'm going to make the big crouching one have a normal face.

I'm just speaking from experience, the other Latigo player just wants to kill stuff. But he's young and still learning.

  5. I also discovered they hate Bad Juju and a list with a lot of swampfiends...
Actually - Bad Juju + well hidden Spawn Mother list made the Latigo player scream "Broken!" and forbade me to play it against him ever again.

EDIT -  I've seen this later on

Zorida and Juju with eternal fiend and fears given form alongside many swampfiends creates a Juju recycling center.  Latigos like to kill stuff...swampfiends like to die, delivering Juju in their face.  End of game: Only Latigo left alive is Dita surrounded by the body parts of her family.  Many swampiends dead, and Juju dead many times.

I had the same response to Ditas crew as you had, but she didn't make it to see the ending in my case.
I remember only one left alive was the Enslaved Nephilim. I think I have liberated him from the evil humans :D
+ Obey on Papa makes him loose some cards for later Juju fun.

Also I nominated Spawn Mother for Frame for Murder. Much pain was delivered.

On a pro-Latigo note. I've got the unassembled plastic crew myself and I can't wait for new Abuela to get released.
I hope they're good with Lone marshal and death marshals in specific games against Ressers.
I love the minis even if they are mostly good for killFaux.

  6. I'm all in for a campaign book. Upgrade game system works perfectly with campaigns, maybe even if some generic models were avaliable for campaigns which can be upgraded as campaign progresses.

As others mentioned multipose minis would really find their place in a campaign style of game and could be used for a generic type of a model avaliable for each faction.

  7. Anyway I edited my previous long post and made it even longer.

To make it short: if people with issues in this thread have issues with longer legs and they want them shorter maybe they could find people with "converting" skills in their gaming communities. I don't know if that sounds crazy, but that's how the people in my area fix these sort of problems. These models aren't that flawed, I've seen them today and they are easily fixed.

Games Workshop for instance have a problem with a lot of their plastic when there is a part of the miniarue missing because of the air bubble or whatever that mold problem is called and that seems like a miniature problem that's much harder to fix.

My point being, find someone with a scalpel and a drill and they will easily fix the models on the female sprue.

  8. I'm not trying to be a Wyrd apologist with this post, I just want to state my opinions (however dumb they might seem).
I've seen the miniatures in person today and they don't look so abhorrantly bad as this thread makes them out to be.
The pictures on the first page also shows that.
Except the legs that are on avarage very tall proportioned, the models themselves fit the perfect proportion established for the sprue. They are a bit too generically proportioned for my taste, but that should be expected of multiposed model that is supposed to portray average body build.

If I went really far with my expectation for a multipose kit, my complaints would be that all of the female models have a bigger breastsize that should be for an average mature woman and there are no multi-proportioned models for different body types that players might want to play and that all models are mostly generically handsome (except for the undead/resser head).

But that is not a realistic thing to expect since models weren't a main goal for this particular kickstarter.
Maybe we'll get different proportioned "multipose male/female character which aren't necesseraly handsome kit" in the future, or maybe even get kits for building gremlin characters :D
In the meantime, if you look at any add from the fashion industry the people on them have weird unnatural proportions (because they're photoshopped to be more appealing). I don't see that trend being changed in the near future and that is a real issue. Well that goes into 1st world issues and might be a bit off topic, but it also goes to show that these models are not a realistic representation of a female human on the average, but fit well with a possible human figure...

Also as it was stated on the first page of this thread, a person with a basic sculpting tools (knife for removing mold lines and plastic cement/glue) could fix the height of the misproportioned miniatures. But this is my observation based on my experience with cutting and glueing plastic miniatures for a couple of years and it might be a bit too objective.
Pinning would help even more, but that requires a drill and some people who are into these sorts of games have one just for that purpose.
If you play TTB/Malifaux in a some sort of a gaming community there could possibly be other people who could help you to fix these models (and the issue itself) if you wanted to play a game with those. I don't know if this sounds reasonable, I don't want to sound sarcastic. At least that's what I'd do if I had an issue with long legged minis that I wanted to be shorter.

I'm definitely going to buy these sprues for conversion purposes when they come out because I have a cool idea for building my own Colette. If anyone with the misproportion issue lives anywhere in Mid-Europe area, I'd be happy to buy the sprue in question off their hands.

  9. Skeeters are disgusting! Great work on them :D I love your idea how they use their tongues to suck the blood.
Only thing I would propose that the undead pig has glowy eyes and maybe a bit of OSL effect around them, but that's me just being spoiled. (I couldn't pull it off with my painting skills as I am right now)

Apron on the chef looks good.
What did he skewer grill on his shishkebab pike, are those some sort of meatballs? Meatballs might need a bit of texture to them, but all in all he looks quite nice (maybe a bit too competent at grilling edible food since he's a gremlin).

Which rules are you going to use for him? (Wongs I guess)

  10. Hey Kalkris, I really loved your short movie list. The Maker is definitely my favourite.
I also have my own youtube list of animated movies that indeed complement Malifaux:

Alma - both cute and creepy Coloddiish cartoon

Madame Tutli-Putli - what crossing the Breach would look like

The Mysterious Explorations of Jasper Morello - this is a bit of a longer animated movie and it has a Malifaux vibe except that everything is suspended in air
LINK (it won't embed video for some reason)

The Cat Piano - it has a beautiful out of time megalopolis atmosphere, except that all of the characters are anthopomorphic cats.
It's also narrated by Nick Cave, so it gets more awesome points from me.
LINK (won't embed video as well)

I've seen Penny Dreadful is quite praised, so I'll definitely check it out.
I really like the American Horror Story, but I'd say the third season called Coven is the only one that reminds me of Malifaux elements. It helped me get into Zoraida and it has a strong Voodoo/pagan atmosphere.

  11. Well I think guild is pretty much diferentiated from other factions and all of the minions in Guild are more uniform looking.
Even the Latigo people mostly look like they fit into the Guild (Papa Loco, Abuela and Francisco are a bit different though).

Ressers look scary and are sometimes also dirty.

Most of the Arcanists look like they have a job of some sort (except for Marcus, Colette and the Oxfordian mages who look like they work in Hogwarts), or they look as if they're going to beat you up because you've walked into a wrong neighbourhood.

Neverborn are still monsters, except for the most of the masters and a few excentrics and those look flashy.

Outcasts have a rebellious or dishelved look, or can't pay money for decent clothes (Ronin for some reason).
Freikorps look the most professional of the Outcasts and are uniform, but in a different way than the Guild.

Ten Thunders are really colorful (even the ninjas) and exotic looking. Graves and Tannen look like criminals.

    Gremlins, are well Gremlins.

New gunsmiths and Sue look very similar in my opinion.
Well, maybe because they are the only real cowboys left... I'm glad I have metal ronin and metal pistoleros, because I love me some cowboys.

Katanaka snipers  are the only letdown in my opinion, because they look like they've ran away from Warhammer 40K.
But it's ok, Malifaux is ok with renegades. :P

  12. I've watched Read or Die, it's pretty similar to the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The protagonist actually feels like a Malifaux master should feel. I think there is an OVA out there (I know because I use one of the characters as my avatar on my home mini forum).

I haven't checked Baccano! yet... What about Full Metal Alchemist? It sounds steampunkish.
I haven't watched anime for a long time now (ok I did just recently watched Attack on Titan, but before that for a long period of time).
I'm more of a comic book person and I recently watch short animated movies and pointless youtube stuff.

I'm currently gearing up to watch full Samurai Jack over the next few days/weeks and it seems that it has a Malifaux like quality.
I remember that it was a more serious toon by Genndy Tartakovsky and it also seems very cool.

Anyway the first few movies I've mentioned would fall into a genuine movie category.
I do like popcorn/kung fu/horror/what did I just watch? movies too, just that I have a harder time remembering a lot of them after the 80' and 90'. Those fun lighthearted movies started to become boring and with repetitive stories and visuals in the recent past. Everything is either a overthetop, play-it-safe  blockbuster or a Gallowwalker/Asylum movie now. Well with some notable exceptions like Guardians of the Galaxy, or some that have fallen into obscurity like Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang or have been destroyed by sequels.
Ok, I've gone offtopic, it's easy to start me up about the movies. I'm glad that there are no full on movie hipsters on this forum who would destroy this thread pretty quickly.

  13. Btw. this is the art for new/old performers:
    Performers.jpg
    performer2.jpg
It's a colored version of old performer from Rising Powers and I love it!

I recently bought the metal doves and Cassandra (I love the dress on the metal one). I'll probably get Fall Shematic Colette, since I kickstarted it and as I remember I'll get some benefits when buying her or something. I'm definitely getting new plastic manequinns, performers and coryphees.

I'm not in love with the new Colette art, but I don't hate it completely. If they were going for the schemeing, off-stage version, it'd be better if she wore trousers and a mans shirt... maybe she'd look great in drag.
Maybe something like this (I also wonder if anyone remembers this series):

    tumblr_m97yv7v6yh1qjssn7o1_500.jpg
She'd look presentable, but corky enough to be recognized as a someone special like a master. Just my two cents.

The new art is bland, but could translate well into a miniature and I suppose the devs will take notice of this thread.
    Looking forward to further development...

  14. 30 Days of Night don't seem that Malifauxy to me, but I've read only one issue...
I haven't read most of those comic books, but I agree on Hellboy and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

As for those Johnny Depp movies, all have something Malifauxy about them.
For the most part From Hell and Sleepy Hollow have an awesome atmosphere which suit the Breachside world well in my opinion.

More offtopic: You forgot two of the greatest movies with Johnny Dep: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Dead Man.
Fear and Loathing doesn't have anything to do with Malifaux even if it's trippy (pun intended) and Dead Man might since it has Western elements...

I'm not too big of a fan of Johnny Dep, but he really pulls it off in Fear and Loathing.

I've also edited my previous posts to add some movie posters and reccomend Sukiyaki Western Django.

  15. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen comic book the movie was based on is much better than the movie, but it also has a much darker story.
Alan Moore (V for Vendetta, Watchmen) can't tell a positive story...

I think I'll have to reread it, because it depressed me quite a bit when I read it.

I can't find guts to watch Suckerpunch, it seem too cheesy for me to handle it. Maybe if I was drunk...

  16. I thought Gallowwalker was pretty Malifaux-esque...it's just a bad movie...

Oh yes. That's the only reason I watched it ... but I even forgot I watched it. Anyone who wants to check the trailer is enough, save yourselves some time and don't watch the movie (unless you're an insomniac like me - at least you will sleap easy during the watch).

    passion.jpg <o> powerful.jpg

Oho, but you just helped me remember another ok Malifauxesqe movie: The Warrior's Way

It's a an action packed film with ninjas, Wild West bandits, it happens in a shanty desert town and you don't have to think too much while watching it. The trailer itself screams Malifaux and that it's a fun movie.

There is also Geoffrey Rush in it, but that doesn't necesserily have to mean something for the most of the people.

    I just love that actor...

    sukiyaki.jpg

Thematically similar to The Warrior's Way is Sukiyaki Western Django. I just rewatch it so I could pass fair judgement on it.

I wasn't in a such a good mood when I watched it the first time and I couldn't get into it.

It's a an attempt to make a spagetthi western like movie with a full japanese cast, some Asian themes and even the japanese actors are speaking bad english. Unfortunately you have to watch the movie with the subtitles since the actors struggle with pronouncing English. Also there is Quentin Tarantino speaking Japanese in the movie.

There is a couple of creepy scenes in the movie, but overall it is a revenge movie similar to Kill Bill in some aspects.

    EDIT

    vlcsnap-2014-08-16-18h18m49s35.png

    *actual line from the movie

So I rewatched the movie and I must say on the second watching that it is a genuine movie with memorable characters and scenes. The actors play it straight and the movie wasn't meant to be a parody of a spagetthi western as I previously tought, but the concept and the use of English language makes it so weird. Also there is some awesome action.

There might be a little bit of Japanese mumbo jumbo here and there (thematically), but the movie has a coherent story.

The movie happens in an alternate makebelive Japan which has cowboys, Indians and samurai (and like Malifaux it works).

The movie is a heck of weirdness and it confused me the first time I've watched it, but something made me see it again.

Like Bird People of China it's less brutal for a Takashi Mikee film, but still very brutal. Thumbs up.

Also, Quentin Tarantino is quite ok in this movie (since he tends to play himself in movies). I would guess he's a fan of Japanese stuff and they've let him act in this because the movie is kind of experimental and Mikee has a weird sense of humor.

Also, there is a guy that reminds me of Fuhatsu in the movie :D
