  1. I used to play Crab as my favorite faction during the Gold and Diamond editions, but my meta sort of dissappeared when the game rules changed.
Anyway I think I'll paint my Yan Lo crew using some borrowed color schemes from Iuchiban and Daigotsu characters.

Your monks look really unified with the color theme and their baldness.
I've got my proxies from Kensei (exept the stuff that already got released) and I didn't pick only buddhist monks as my inspiration for building monks. I participated in a kickstarter for japanese based fantasy creatures by Kensei before the Shenlong was announced as a master. I was really happy when they announced the sketch for Shenlong because I had a really nice proxy for him... Anyway, I haven't painted my monks yet and I'll post it when I do. It's great to see different peoples visions and you had a really nice pick of proxies.

I love the Wyrds concept art for Shenlong himself and the other monks, except the Sensei Yu.
Ten Thunder Archers should look great in crew with monks, dragons, raven people and superweasle.

Also, I like the Bushido kung fu guy you're using for your Shenlong. Only thing I'd change on him, I'd model a long thin Fu Manchu moustache on him... but that's not a critique, it's just my imagination.

  2. I think I've seen this dragon on the net somewhere before. I mean, the Dawn Serpent.

Beautiful crew all over. I especially like the Lone Swordsman proxy and the Seishin/Shenlong conversion, proxy thingy.
Your monks look very unified. Are they all from the same game/company? They look a lot like L5R Dragon clan, which might be the case (I used to play the card game).

I only recognize Shenlong proxy from Bushido... the swordsman looks familiar, but I can't remember from where.

  3. Or you can also paralyze them after they have already activated...

Or lure multiple minis into Ama No Zako or whatever with a good terrifying characteristic.
Ressers, Ten Thunders and Neverborn have some high cast lure models... also a performer is a nice alternative.
I use Ama with Molly because she has an alternative way to paralyze people which doesn't require Horror duels.
Also do I remember correctly: does a model with slow who gains slow again becomes paralyzed, or am I just crazy?

I love Ama no Zako because her devour like action allows you to sacrifice minis who aren't living, unlike Wendigo, Flesh Construct, Gaki etc. devour.

  4. Malifaux is a setting that draws  players in with a rich symbolism, which competently melds classic literature, pop-culture and mythology. For me the ritchness of setting and mostly the Western feel has drawn me into the game, because I've never played a Western based game. But that was only the start.

My favourite moments with Malifaux would be lurking the forums during Beta Testing of Wave 1 & 2, evenings I've spent with stories from Rising Powers, Twisting Fates & Storm of Shadows in the Summer of 2013 and playing a tournament this month with a fully painted crew I've borrowed from a local henchman.

Currently I'm having a lot of fun building (and even painting) my extended Molly crew and I'm excited to paint it to the fullest quality of my skills.
I've been playing with shoddy painted Gremlins for almost two years now and the experience was unsatisfiying for the most part, but that didn't stop me from experiencing the rest of community.

I love both my META and the internet community (forum, facebook group, plus various blogs and podcasts).
The overhaul to The 2nd Edition has made a very good game great and even with some negativity here and there I'm more than happy to be a part of an ever growing community. Next step for me would be to go play games in other countries, but I want to polish my playing and hobby abilities before that.

Favourite things about the game are too many to count here and I could just repeat what a lot of forum members have already written in this thread. Ok, I gotta say I'm grateful for the toning down of soulstones in the new edition, that might be one of the things besides the new scheme/strategy mechanic that made the game better.

Also, a big thanks to Justin for making the Gremlin faction a fun faction to play.

They've felt a bit too rapey in the previous edition and now they are just fun, even if they seem a bit brutal to non-Gremlin players. ;)

  5. I prefer the new sculpt from the old gangly metal one, which I didn't get for the reason I was certain they'd fix the weird look with the new edition. She was a bit too big in the previous edition and might be a bit too small in this one.
I actually prefer the new one because of the design and it doesn't bother me to a degree I won't play with her.
I'm a complete sucker for the fluff and as I remember that she should be big and fierce.
On the other hand she might grow phiscally as her rage grows.

I'd buy a limited, bigger more fierce looking nightmare edition Nekima though.
It'd be cool to have a badass powerful looking female demon for a change, that doesn't look like just like an alt Mature Nephilim with curves. Lilith got a dress change, it'd be cool if Nekima would have a similar styling.

I'm agianst typical oversexualization of warrior women like it's the case with new Ronins.
I'm against "sex sells" and it really bothered me when I played Confrontation.
On the other hand I like the S&M design of the Lelu (both concept arts) and Lilitu and it looks great in a kitchy sort of way on demons and I might like it if it's over the top and if it isn't completely tasteless.
I prefer the old art for Nekima, but I also prefer the new mini design because of her pose and I might convert some more interesting clothes, or armor, or something on her... I'll see.

  6. I hope that it was nothing serious.
You have my thoughts and best wishes.

It's a bit complicated for me to express compassionate wishes in English, because it is not my first language and I'm a weirdo with my own langage as it is, so I edited my post because I don't want to cause confusion where there is no place for rubbish.

  7. Well, Lilitu and Lelu certainly have evolved differently than the other nephilim.
Nekima did loose a point of height and this wasn't really adressed in the fluff, but anything is possible.

I liked the concept art for 1.5 Nekima, but the mini itself looked too gangly and wearing a much simpler garb, which was different from more athletic and more stylish representation from the book and the sword on the mini didn't look as massive as the one in the art. Only part of the mini I like is her face. Unfortunately I haven't seen the mini in flesh, because I might have converted her to my liking.
For now I feel this one is better from the photos and render, but I haven't had any of the new wonky scaled minis yet, so I might be biased.

  8. I like Jotun's idea. Maybe you could freehand some sort of a simple design onto the crib.
I usually google for designs like that and you can give the baby more character with it.
Uhhh, I just googled 19th century crib and got some scary looking results.
Anyway I meant using google for the historical designs to go with the Victorian era, but you can devirsify by ethnic, pop culture or whichever idea you get.
There is a lot of historic musem stuff online (I'm going all geeky with my college studies now).

  9. People on AWP are hoping for Nightmare Edition giant Nekima, which would be cool.

Saying that I like the current plastic version and can't wait to get mine. She'll probably be much smaller than my mature nephilim proxies, but I'm still willing to see what the fuss is about.
I guess she is somewhat more imposing than the young nephilim and Barbaros, like she should be.

  10. Do you happen to remember where you saw this? I don't recall ever reading anything about a connection between the Grave Spirit's arrival and the Neverborn's creation. Far as I know, all the Grave Spirit did was basically kill everything and they immediately tried to lock it away in Kythera.

I remember reading something similar in the first Wyrd Chronicles...but I'm not 100% sure.

Also something on how Neverborn were artificial beings or something... I have to re-read te old fluff.

  11. Every time the Dragon is mentioned this scene/intro pops to my mind (at least the first four minutes):
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MS9_oRYURU

The movie itself isn't anything special...

Western dragons from various mythologies either represent a male counterpart to snakes or they represent earth gods in various pantheic trinities of leading gods. In this Trinity there is always a god that represents the sky (thunder, strenght, destruction...) and cosmic order , the god of the middle world of the mortals (usually female) which stands for changes(seasons, life & death...) and mortality and the chtonic god of the underground usually represented by the dragon which stands for fertility (cattle, but also war, because he has big armies) and chaos.
The two male gods always fight over the middle one which is married to the sky god, but usually bears children to the earth god. You could say the two gods fight for the influence over mortals.
These concepts are shared in most of the western mythologies, which had strong influence from Eastern mythology.

  12. This is exactly what I wanted to do with my Sorrows!   I only lack your skills.
I'm more then impressed with what you've done and I can't wait to do some brushwork on mine.

Thank  you for the tutorial. I'll definitely check it out since my smoky Tara is next on schedule after I finish Molly and her horror friends.
I have a lot of crews to work on before I get around Pandora, but I'll hopefully improve enough to do something quite similar to this.

I might have written this in your thread before: I think your Mannequin/Widow diorama is one of the best stuff I've seen done to miniatures since I've started playing Confrontation in 2004 (and got interested in making miniatures look nice).

I also envy your Tara crew, one of the most original paintjobs for her I've seen on the forums and AWP.
I hope I'll rival yours in idea if not in execution when I get to finish it in a couple of months (hopefully).

  13. Really interesting effect of the translucent flames. Could I request a different angle shots?
EDIT Uhh, I've just later noticed you don't have your usual equipement...

Did you get any of the transparent minis or tried painting those?

    True, true...

Mind you, every time I tried to do a simpler base, it came out looking a bit naff. This was the only way I could actually get it to work!

Similar thing just happened to me yesterday: I was thinking about having Molly walk along a pathway besides a fence by a flowery garden. I thought up some bases for her crew about a half a month ago, but I didn't have all the stuff I needed to build the bases I wanted, so I had to go to my old apartment at parents house to scavange for bits last week.
Then I wasn't really happy with the bits I had for fence and yesterday I went out to an event where wargaming people exchange bits and gotten some new bits for a nicer fence and then I decided I needed a taller fence, because a short one looked a bit underwhelming and I've expanded the whole concept because the fence needed additional details since Molly is a master after all...  :D

Maybe I would have been happier with a shorter / less detailed fence if I've built a display base for my crew, but then I've would have never started painting 30 odd minis and I don't want to play with unfinished minis anymore.
Might I add I've finished converting some of these minis couple of days before a recent tournament I was building this crew for and couldn't finish painting them on time.
Anyway last month was really exciting for me conversion & base building wise. Painting was a bit frustraiting at some points and I still have to finish everything and even repaint some stuff, but I've learned a couple of new things and I still need to improve my skill with the brush to be happy as I was happy with pre-paint construction results.
Sorry about the rant, I just wanted to say I share similar thought processes to you, even if I don't have your organization skills or otherwise miniature hobby skills nowhere near your level (or however you can describe that sort of artstyle).
