  1. So, which of them is gonna be crammed into Shenlong? Dows he/she/it have any background material anywhere? Or is it a completely new concept character?

    Morgan Vening

I think Shelong is a name for a dragon. He also comes from Earths Three Kingdoms and I sort of see it goes well with a dragon theme. It's also said that magic was still active in the Three Kingdoms and it has suposedley dissapeared from Earthside, so the tyrant being might be the one that's behind that...

  2. Your wives Young Lacroix have exactly the same colored hats as mine... weird.

Solid paintjobs and my favorite is the John Wayne young Lacroix.

...also great painting on banjo and I really like all of the bases.

Gremlins also inspired me to start making scratch built bases.

  3. I like the skin tones on gremlins, especially the pig rider.

About the pig, I'd like to see her/him in a darker shade of green because I see it as a matured version of piglet (unless it's a different species of pig). But it might be a bit darker ATM than the piglets, since I've seen those a while back (those seemed a paler tone of green).

I didn't like the pig model from the painted pictures, but when I took Somers box off Gujo's hands yesterday I realized it's a fine looking miniature afterall.

I think I'll use the pig rider as a bayou gremlin, but I can't decide how to convert him yet...

I love the last looking mini and yours looks great with orange skintone.

Can't wait to see your painted female hog whisperer. I wish I had one for Mah Tucket crew :Rat_HeartRed:

    It's a pity it's impossible to get...

  4. So I have a new speculation since there are two new characteristics in the game.

Komainu has House Guard and Ama No Zako has Oni.

What I was thinking is that the new master can hire or has synergies with mythic beasts, which would mean a weird magical version of Marcus.

Maybe, the thought just crossed my head...

  5. True. Things like race, standards of sexual attractiveness, what is counts as “people” food,” and that a dollar bill has value are all social constructs; however, that does not diminish their power as affect they affect people in our socially constructed world. That make-believe gameworld is situated within our own as it is people from the real world that created it and interact with it, which is why this topic keeps coming up.

That is also true, but since Malifaux is the world situated in alternate past - racism, various values and political correctness of that time is much different from our own.

Malifaux feels right in itself that it is believable and also borrows a lot of bizarro' people/events/places either from "factual" history or popular culture and it still feels right within its era (with very few offenders in the background story and the art department).

Another thing I forgot to elaborate in the last post is that Malifaux is based on the idea that it exists inside a magical world existing in the alternate dimension. I'm not trying to strip it of value in any way writing that. In my opinion it's exactly the opposite - it's a very well constructed world and we as players have the power to contribute to it through playing the game inside the story/art/hobby that has strong elements.

What I'm trying to say that putting too much of present day logic and bringing all of the social constructions (because some of those won't find a place of its own inside it) the illusion of the story might start break apart for some people (I guess those that like the fluff).

tl;dr Explaining it too much with the outside world makes it less fun. Some of the social constructs might work inside Malifaux some won't.

Now I feel no fun for writing last two posts and now I feel as a massive nerd.

I'm not trying to prove a point and be smart about it (yeah right, like that's possible on the internet), I'm just trying to give a way for coping with some issues mentioned earlier in this thread.

I think any fictional work might bump into problems like these, but to my knowledge, Malifaux or at least my vision of it doesn't have any problems since it has ran its course over that bump and it vigilantly goes forth.

Or I might just be a fan-boy and somebody should slap me with a "shut up" swatting utensil. *wink*

:goes back to reading Wave 2 upgrades:

  6. First "sexy" models I've seen you have painted. So far your ronin isn't over the top and doesn't fit completely in Victorias Secrets (maybe the one with pony tails will).

I really like how you did ronins chubby face and it's bizzare how the belle looks almost alive.

  7. Molly is definitely my favourite.

I've heard on latest Malifools that she's expanding into spirit domain, so I'm currently considering which spirits will do good with her. I always liked Gaki, but I'm not sure if they fit her concept. Yakuuna Ubume maybe...

Also Jack Daw. I think I'm slowly embracing undeath/spirits into my collection.

  8. I'm just really excited about totally new stuff that might appear and the new art.

I'm currently looking into getting whole Neverborn faction one day...

Yes and I'm also brimming with ideas for Rotten Harvest.

On the IRL hand I have to buy some furniture for my mostly minimalistically outfitted apartment. Shelves and chairs and maybe a new bed.

    ...and a drill :D

  9. I really liked the fluff in general and that's what has drawn me to the game and the art for crouching Zoraida and Weaver Widow (which seems odd now)...

I'm not sure which one I liked the best when I was considering what first to get: the ones I first wanted to get were Spawn Mother, Marcus or Molly miniatures.

I instantly decided I wanted to play with monsters but wasn't sure what to get in between neverborn, beasts and gremlins, so I got three different crews which incidentally could interchange some miniatures. Zoraida could use Ophelia and Marcus could use silurids and waldgeist. So I was happy with my first choice.

I've got Molly just last month...

On the more serious note, I have something to say over this race topic.

Race is a social construct and not a scientific fact (not even in social science).

On the other hand ethnicity easily oversimplifies background of any "cultural" background and I don't see any place for political correctedness inside a makebelieve gameworld with its own alternate history and ethnicities. A community of people can create an ethnicity through institutions if it existed for some generations (several centuries, give or take).

Then there are mixed ethnicities and you also have Neverborn and Gremlins which should also have their varied cultural backgrounds. That seems a bit too mutch to put inside a game with 30+ masters.

Good thing that Hagisman mentioned Cult of December, because that's an ethnicity I'd like to see more of. There were male priests mentioned in the fluff for that matter and I can see one as a model.

Somebody mentioned that there are no Middle Eastern cultures present in greater quantities in America of Victorian era and I will disagree and point to Jewish culture/ethnicity which existed in America as early as 17th century.

And nobody mentioned Colette Dubois who probably came to Malifaux straight from Moulin Rogue.

Having all ethnicities inside a game is too difficult and there are a lot of cultural backgrounds inside Malifaux as it is. I'd rather have an interesting character without an Earthside cultural background and with a rich character background...

I could also say that I miss people of Slavic descent and of one that isn't Russian (since I'm from Croatia, but probably not many people know what that is), but that would be stretching it alot since great European migrations started a couple of decades later.

But since Malifaux gets a ritch influx of convicts, you can see people like Rasputina, Zoraida (which could be of Moorish, Gypsy or Latin American descent from her name) etc.

People already said a lot about how Wyrd crew have covered multiculturalism through varied sterotypes with a lot of dignity and I don't have much to say about that since I agree with what has been written. There was some mention of gender, religion (which is intetwined with multiculturalism) and LGBT topics (which could easily make an appearance inside the Gremlin faction) and those can also add to the ritchness of character without labeling a character through some sort of stereotype or out of political correctness

(for which reason I assume that Dumbledore is gay).

Anyway, Malifaux already has a ritch pallete of characters and I suppose it will only get ritcher (if that's a word) with new Wave 2 models. I doubt that we'll get only generic "white" people in it.

  11. Just in case this thread gets locked before I finish reading it, I wanted to say that I'd like to see a priestly sort of character in Malifaux.

Wild West priest would be a great stereotype for a miniature to get based on. Maybe it would even be cool if he/it would an Amish preacher.

  12. I finished Leveticus, but Demmon uploaded it in the No Maam contest and I wasn't able to take photos of him since he's not with me at the moment.

I was also a bit depressed/worried about my painting expertise and I didn't post any pictures of my plans, but I will do later in the afternoon. Procrastination doesn't pay off.

I'm doing Leveticus (still needs a bit of cleaning and maybe some converting), Alyce and one of Waifs in this thread. I have to read through it and also read the other one to see what the rules are (also scan some comic books).
