I am about to purchase my first crew of Malifaux and am really digging McMourning. I plan to include the avatar in my purchase. I have been reading thw PullMyFinger Wiki to try to understand how the avatar works. I am under the impression that most other avatars replaces the character. Whole McMourning simply summons Simulacron-29. However it also mentions that McMourning goes into avatar state. This made me very confused, should I purchase the alternative McMourning model to replace the regular McMourning model to represent him being in avatar state?

Thank you for all the advice, really helpful and love to read more. As I have been reading some more a few questions have come to my mind. Does rafkin help the dear doctor at all? I also read rafkin can summon guild autopsies, do I need to purchase those as well or will the body parts collected by rafkin be more helpful in other ways? When the avatar manifests, will the doctor's model be replaced by the avatar or is the avatar an additional summoned model?

I am completely new to Malifaux and I hope this crew will be a hell of a lot of fun to play. I will get myself the McMourning Starter box, the avatar, a Chihuahua, 4 canine remains, Rafkin and the alt. Flesh Construct. Should that be sufficient to play or do I need more models for summoning? My friend has gotten himself A 25 points crew of sonnia Criid and so I thought it would be good fun to purchase a crew of my own and be able to play some fun games. For the last hours I have been reading PullMyFinger and there are two Masters and accompanying crew that I found a liking to, Dr McMourning and Seamus. The dormant mad scientist in me finds Dr McMourning and his medical staff really appealing. However, I do not find the rouge necomancy model nor the Avatar model at all interesting but I should be able to scratchbuild and convert appropriate models for those. I also think Seamus and his avatar have awesome models and concept. Both the Masters seems to have really fund playstyle, any advice on how to decide for what to purchase would be really welcome.
