  1. It could also have come from podcast interviews or the Through the Break Kickstarter streams. I've been so inconsistent with my intake on the fluff over the years, I can't keep track of where everything comes from, not to mention the very normal human habit of creating false memories. This is why I'm rereading all of it, and will try to reread all of it before each major release from now on.

  2. I think I read it here on the forums actually, so it could just be hearsay. I'm currently reworking may way through all the fluff (I'm in book 2 right now) in preparation for the new book release. I think they've stated that either in book 1 or 2 of 2E they're actually going to be looking at the gremlins place in Malifaux and their connection to the various major events. I think Mack said that in a podcast.

  3. Magical mutation...is that a euphemism for inbreeding? ;)

Only way I can explain my Raphael having 13 toes

If I remember correctly, in the fluff, gremlins evolved into what they are because of the magic involved in the Cataclysm. Also, yes, inbreeding.

  4. I have seen the plastic stalker (which to me looks the same as a metal witchling), but were others revealed? Could you give a link?

The new plastic stalker you saw was probably the promo model released with a miniatures magazine. It has not been revealed whether or not it is a going to be one of the standard sculpts.

  5. Some of the gremlins in that crew box don't have noses. Somer, the rider on the warpig, and at least one of the bayou gremlins don't have one. I think the "issue" fluff-wise is that gremlins still have a sort of nasal ridge, but don't actually have noses. This ridge, which when covered with muscle and skin would look more like a small mound, is more pronounced on some gremlins than others.

Burt and Wong also have a detectable nose. I think it's more that gremlins are what they are because of the magical energies of Malifaux. Magical mutation combined with high reproduction rates probably means you get some major variations on appearances.

  6. I have to read it then. Talkong about fluff, is most of the fluff readable in the rulebooks? I've read the chronicles but they don't have that much of it, I think. What rulebook should I buy if I want to get on board with the story?

I actually just started reading the story pieces out of the rule books after playing for almost four years. In my honest opinion, so far, the way they manage to get all the different characters to interact in such short periods of time feels a little forced and they don't do much writing that adds to character depth (because they probably just don't have the room for it in the rule books) however, the writing is still pretty decent. That being said, I've only finished book one fluff and the very first part of book two, so I'm sure it gets better.

The Dead of Winter fluff is available under the downloads section on the Malifaux site.

  7. I'm starting to want all the models, old and new, standard edition and special edition. I just want a legion of Malifaux figures. Good thing I just got a second job to help pay for my hobbies.

Also, one thing to consider is that it's not the color of the art that will determine what the new sculpts will look like. If you don't like Taylor with black hair (I do, but not as much as the previous Taylor), you don't have to paint here that way.

  8. I have a friend faced with the same problem of getting into the game before an edition shift. However, he played 40k for a few years so he understands the complications that are inherent in edition changes, and beyond those few problems, Wyrd has handled this change in a far superior way than Games Workshop ever has (open beta for community feedback, everything faction gets updated at the same time, they give the community more than a months notice). Yeah, it's going to cost you some more money, but then it is a luxury hobby, so maybe you should calm down. To date, just about every major miniatures game has gone through an edition change now, it's a natural part of gaming. As people play the game over the years, flaws that weren't immediately apparent start to crop up as people find new ways to play pre-existing models and as a result of unintentional power creep. Even board games see the occasional overhaul, and with how much more complex tabletop skirmish games are, it's only natural that they'll need an overhaul as well.

  9. Maybe its the normal box artwork and not the special one. And this was supposed to come out much later.

That's a good point, however it might be beneficial for people to see both. When faced with the opportunity to purchase a special edition model, I would like to know what the standard model looks like. Under the assumption that it's the nightmare edition concept art, I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what the standard crew would look like, other than Tara and Katarina looking a little more tame.

  10. I read/heard somewhere that they are chopped so strangely for ease of manufacture and not assembly. Hence why the plastics are kind of horrible to assemble.

Not sure where I heard/read that though.

This was said in an interview on a podcast. If I remember correctly, they said that when they start producing the new sculpts, they'll work closer with the manufacturer to make sure they're easier to assemble.

  11. I tried, and failed, to put that point as well as this. Kudos, Piranhamoose :)

Thanks. I've done a bit of research on this.

Intellectual property isn't really the issue here though. If this person acquired the photo either by signing a NDA or through someone else who signed a NDA, then it falls under breach of contract, not copyright violation. It would only be a copyright violation if there was direct monetary gain by posting the image and/or a loss of revenue for the owner (either Wyrd or the artist depending on the contract between the two).

Disclaimer: This information may be outdated, and also I'm not a qualified expert on the subject, so do your own research if you want to know for sure.

  12. As someone who hasn't been able to keep up with gaming at all since I lost my job, I will say that I'm glad to have found the Tara imagine online as now I have just enough lead time to save my pennies up to hopefully get the Nightmare Tara during the GenCon online sale. That artwork is full of win, especially considering my current gaming interests.

I don't think public domain means what you seem to think it means. Public domain is about ownership, not public accessibility. I can download a pdf of Harry Potter, but it's still Rowling's intellectual property and thus it is not public domain.

  13. I believe the art hasn't been officially released and that posting it might have been a violation of the Non-Disclosure agreement (which is why the image has been removed). However, you could always try google. I wouldn't be surprised if someone out there decided to post it on a blog or something.

Yep, someone leaked it outside of the website. Wyrd might want to get on that. Or not, whatever.
