  1. Hey all, getting back into Malifaux in a few weeks. Books, cards, etc ordered but wondering if (due to all the changes) there's any models I should consider getting early on. Here's what I currently have:

    Somer, 4 Mosi's

Ophelia, Rami, Raph, Francois, Pere, 3 Young Uns

Hog Whisperer, 2 Slop Haulers, Taxidermist, McTavish, Pigapult

Warpig, Gracie, 3 Stuffed Pigs, 5 Pigs

    8 Bayou's

In time I think I will probably get the Zoraida box.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

  2. From last night's game, it clearly depends on the strategies and schemes, as all games do. I got Recon and he got the one that required him to prevent my master being in his half/deployment zone. I took an Ophelia crew with Pigapult. My schemes were bodyguard and breakthrough. He took Assassinate and Kill Protege. I have Ophelia, Rami, Pere, Pigapult, 3 Young Lacroix and 8 Bayous.

Ophelia ended up in melee with Mei Feng in the second last turn but managed to survive. Down to three wounds she uses Dumb and Lucky twice to take Mei Feng out of the game and then is launched to the other side of the game. At that point he conceded the game.

It also helped that first turn I launched Pere (which he survived). He moved up into melee range with some Rail Workers (? - the ones that enable Mei Feng to jump about). Also launched a Young Lacroix, who took Pere out to set him off. That took out a model and seriously hurt two more. Having Ophelia start, then companion Pere and Young Lacroix, and Family Tree the Pigapult meant I could do that combo before he could move.

The other key was what someone already mentioned - taking out anything that allows Mei Feng to jump about. That slowed her down at the start, but still - by turn three she got in my midst and took out a number of Bayou. I couldn't placed people better probably, but a 2 inch push followed by 1 inch melee meant I would have needed to be really spread out.

Not sure I would consistently win, but that's a few things I learned last night.

  3. Just to check rules...

Played a game last night. The situation was Ophelia next to Pigapult and in melee with Mei Feng (Pigapult also in melee range of Mei Feng). Can the pigapult launch Ophelia from this situation? Will it require her to beat a disengaging strike from Mei Feng?

We played it that it wouldn't as it is not a move on Ophelia's part but a place by the Pigapult, and the Pigapult's action is not a strike but an action.

In the end it didn't matter as Ophelia shot Mei Feng down from full wounds with two strikes.

    But just curious.

  4. If Kang is on his last wound and has1 poison token on him, when he activates (on turn 2+) does he die or heal first? Poison would remove his last wound but "can't keep him down" heals wounds equal to the turn number. Both happen when he activates.

  5. Looking for some experienced insight into getting the most out of the pigapult with either So'mer or Ophelia lead crews. Presume we have strategies that would particularly favour throwing stuff up the board. What do you find works well? What would a 35SS crew featuring a pigapult look like?

And I'm looking for some clarification too - if the stuffed piglet is sacrificed then it must pass a WP 12 Duel or explode, is that right? If it passes then it can be placed within 24", right? It is doesn't pass, then the pigapult takes 1 Dg from the exploding pig?

  6. So Pull My Finger is a bit light on tactics for Wong, so I don't know how he might fit in with Gremlins yet, and so whether to bother getting him for some added flexibility/uses. Can anyone enlighten me?

    Thanks!

  7. So, just to clarify - if a piglet is made significant by using "root around" it would count for schemes, strategies where only a significant model counts? I just want to make sure the spell doesn't end at the end of the encounter (since it does say that it ends at the start of the next turn).

  8. Be prepared to take several wp tests for all your targetting.

The performers main attack is a wp resist spell which if it gets you into her melee will give you paralysed (and very shortly afterward poison 4).

This is one of the reasons I thought about taking the Taxidermist over Ophelia...if there were going to be issues about needing to take Wp tests to target then I'm better throwing stuff at them that doesn't require to flip to hit.

    Any further insights or thoughts?

  9. Yeah, definitely thought about taking Ophelia, but I am not sure if she'd be the best fit until I can drop the warpig (which is weeks 7 and 8 of the club league) simply due to the huge number of SS for her. I did take her against Ramos, which I was so thankful for, as she dealt with the big arachnid thing that came for Som'er.

The Bayous have been ok so far, as they mainly provide fodder for making pigs (which then make stuffed pigs), mosquitoes or running for objectives. Three of them took down one of the Ortega's (the one that gets better with lower wounds), so whilst they can be unreliable they can deal out some damage if I can get Dumb Luck off.

Will Colette's crew be wanting to get up close and personal? That may influence taking Ophelia. On the other hand, would I be better throwing stuffed pigs at her crew since they cause automatic 1-4 damage (depending on what I flip), which combined with the mosquitoes casting Pull My Finger worked well against Pandora?

  10. So this week's match up is my Som'er crew against Colette. Have been doing a little reading around the forum I came across this helpful summary of playing against her:

The 'recipe' to dealing with Colette is:

    1. Kill her Show girls, focus on performers first, Cassandra and Duet Second
    2. Focus, Focus, Focus. Even her SS users (Cassandra/Coryphee) go down to concentrated attacks
    3. Make her use her SS next. As long as she is burning SS you are gaining ground on Colette. She can only make 2 per turn, and that slows her down a lot.
    4. Don't focus on Colette until her Showgirls are gone. Attacks of oppurtunity are nice, but removing showgirls is more important.

Unfortunately, most of what I have read so far deals with strategies other than Slaughter, which is the strategy for this week.

So it's a 30SS game, we have to use the starter box (for me that's Som'er, 4 Bayou Gremlins, Warpig), and it's Shared Slaughter strategy.

I've not thought yet about what to use the other 14SS on (other than the usual one mosquito at least). Do I go with the Taxidermist setup that I took last week? It worked well against Pandora (wiped out her crew):

    Som'er (2SS cache)

    6 Bayou Gremlins (12SS)

    Warpig (8SS)

    Mosquito (2SS)

    Taxidermist (6SS)

Any thoughts, advice, tips are well.

  11. I did kill Pandora with the stuffed piglets after the bulk of the other models were removed via mosquito and stuffed piglet attacks. I think the turn she died, Som'er summoned a piglet by killing a gremlin, the taxidermist then summoned a stuffed piglet off that piglet after he moved 4 inch from that piglet towards Pandora, thus placing the stuffed piglet within a reckless move of Pandora and leaving it to explode that turn and take out Pandora.

  12. Som'er with mosquitoes, taxidermist and stuffed pigs did a lot of damage last night to Pandora. Wiped out her and her whole crew, winning 8-0. He was handicapped by not being able to take Teddy due to the league restrictions but so was I since I had to take warpig. Think he's only had a few games with her too so that helped. We both chose bodyguard and hold out as schemes so I ran a gremlin the full length of board which survived since he needed his models in the middle for the Claim Jump.

Thanks for all the help and advice.

  13. So I'm up against Pandora next as part of my club league. Still have to take the full Som'er box. It's 30SS and shared Claim Jump. I'm thinking of taking this list:

    Som'er

    Mosquito - 2SS

    Warpig - 8SS

    6 bayou gremlins - 12SS

    Taxidermist - 6SS

    Total: 28SS (2SS cache)

The Taxidermist will give me stuffed pigs via Som'er creating piglets (turn 1 will be Git Yer Bro, which will give me injured gremlins to use for piglets and mosquitoes in turn 2 - thought that would be easier than relying on corpse counters) which will bypass Pandora's defence and hopefully create some problems if his crew bunch near the middle. So I've gone for more gremlins to enable that whilst having some more for the factory or claiming the centre. I'll create more mosquitoes so as to get more Sooey's cast.

I think for this strategy I want to be more counter attack, let him go for middle then hit him with stuffed pigs, warpig, pull my finger before running in some gremlins to claim the middle.

Can Pandora summon any models so as to increase the number of models she starts with?

Thoughts on the list or tactic? I thought about taking Rami but that would give lower number of gremlins and no SS cache. I think the stuffed pigs are more useful than Rami since Rami would have to be taking Wp tests to hit. Is that right or should I reconsider?
