  1. Which is the fifth Teddy?

You have the old regular one, Nightmare Teddy, new plastic one and Miss Ery.

Maybe you're thinking about the alt head?? Are the Puppet Wars Teddies as large enough for HT 3?

I really like the nightmare teddy mini, but there is no way to get one anymore :(

They wouldn't be the same scale, but puppetwar models can be used as their Malifaux equivalents (in 1.5 at least). Base size permitting.

  2. OK people, I want to propose the TEDDY SUPER HAPPY FUNTIME CHALLENGE!. Basically have all 5 versions of teddy (the nightmare one had 2 configs) look like happy carebears with their stare thing in their bellies! YOUR JOB IS TO MAKE EVERYBODY HAPPY, OR SO HELP THEM GOD THEY WILL SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES!

The only reason I'm holding onto one of my metal teddies is because I painted him up as Grumpy bear.

Edit-As for the whole Dreamer thing, totally forgot that he had different art when it first got previewed. I'm indifferent to those changes since anything was a step up from the original dreamer. New sculpt is indeed the same as the Nightmare version (minus dreamer on his shoulder), but at about half the size by the look of it. The Nightmare LCB, and likely the Nightmare whiskey golem will be the equivalent of Warmahorde extreme kits. Same/similar to their general release, but at a far grander scale.

  3. Sculpt is really cool and I'll obviously end up getting one cause Wyrd always gets my money.  :)  That being said, completely unnecessary model for the miss.  4th iteration of 1 model and still no models of certain others.  I thought GenCon was supposed to be the exciting driver of interest in the product but this year is feeling extraordinarily "meh".  At least this year is gonna be easier on my wallet than I was expecting.

Miss Terious was the 8th of 11 Death Marshal sculpts.

  4. I had a big long response, then the quick reply glitched and ate it.

The only reason an established player will look at starter product are the following.

-Pocket rules (already available on its own)

    -Exclusive models

    -Discounted models

Beyond that the focus should be getting new players going.

2 crews balanced to play against each other, 2 decks, quickstart rules, and toss in something extra per crew to make it stand out from being two crew boxes taped together. Throw in some contrived story encounter to demonstrate game mechanisms and you can use any two crews you want. That's all it would have to be. Any player who would pass on it because of faction/master options is likely to type of player who would be doing more research that a two player starter to see if they like a system. While we always talk of the suitcase strategy, most players stick to a few crews and few models for them.

This reminds me I should really update my Malifaux budget stuff once I at least have Crossroads in hand.

  5. I'll tell you exactly why; Nightmare Lord Chompy Bits.

I imagine at least some people didn't want to pass up an opportunity to get what could potentially be the next $200-250+ rare/limited edition figure for only $125 (possibly plus shipping).  By that standard, it's a gamble, but could be half price, plus a significant pile of other stuff.  Even if that's more than Hannah ends up going for, getting a Miss Terious (if one backed early enough), Santana, the books, a fate deck, and the MPMs adds up to a pretty significant amount of extra swag.

Even at retail prices, that tier contains a pretty massive amount of stuff.

... I'm now forced to reflect on what the gaming room tier actually gets over the dining room tier.  $111 for the hardcover, an extra fate deck, the hanging tree and the plush wicked doll?  Am I forgetting something?

That's the fun of the speculation market, sometimes you lose hard. The thing everyone seems to forget about the early nightmare models, is that they were made in the earlier days of Malifaux before it started getting fairly popular. Its why the new nightmares don't get anywhere as close as what the old ones did. Its like the comic market, old comic are valuable because they are rare, not because they are comics. There are probably far fewer Nightmare Chompys than there are will be of Hannah even if they only produce exactly enough for the kickstarter.

You're right on the differences for the gaming room tier. Hardcover version of the two books combined, the doll, the deck, and a tree. Not a huge jump, but I like the idea of having my two primary books in one easy reference and saves me from having to constantly pass a player guide around the group.

  6. There are a lot of problems with kickstarter, mostly people still perceiving it in the same way as pre-orders and companies treating it like a pre-order system (looking at you CMoN and Battlefront). However I do not understand the people who backed an RPG just to get a model. Its cool and a nice thrown in, but the point was to create a malifaux rpg not a hannah model. At least with Fall schematic there was an entire separate tier for models.

I've done enough development work to know that its rare for anything to finish on schedule, and that pre-order mentality ingrained into many kickstarter users means that an excessive buffer time can lead to lost interest. However if a project is still in the early stages of development then delays will happen, and as long as there is progress being made on it then you will still receive your rewards. Even with production issues, partnership issues, and the general over-ambition of the project, Relic Knights still delivered. Granted EU/APAC shipping is likely getting held up by last minute production issues, but at least there is progress being made and confirmation that you will get your rewards eventually. I'm over a year late on my necrom amazon team due there being constant cloning issues, but batches are being sent out even if they're at a slow pace.

The TtB kickstarter has been kind of a perfect storm of bad opinion. Running it at around the same time as M2E developement is where I feel almost every complaint about the problem can be traced to. At the end of the day this isn't some 'Doom that came to Atlantic city" catastrophe, its just a project that picked a poor time to launch and has been plagued with production issues.

  7. After defeating a sinus cold designed by Hamelin himself, I'm back to running events. Starting off the year with a big one, the return of the Atlantic Gaming convention. Going to be running Demos all day Saturday along with having space for open play (Looking to see if space is available Sunday). Will have several crews on hand to play with, along with the cards for all available models in M2E. Will also bring my M1E books for the fluff bunnies.

Even if Malifaux isn't your thing, there is probably something available to your taste. So come on out for a sweet weekend of gaming.

  8. So I decided my resolution for the New Year would be to finally clear out my painting backlog. Currently going through all my stuff so I can figure out how much I have exactly to paint, along with getting it grouped into systems/factions. I should have the intimidating list posted up before the end of the year. Going to prioritize models that get played the most over extras I have. Off the top of my head I'm looking at the following

-Finishing my 2400 Warriors of Chaos army

-1850 Adepta Soritas army (Order of the Sacred Rose scheme)

    -SSU Red Guard Platoon

-My entire Super Dungeon Explore Collection

-Finishing my Blood Bowl Team (The Fire Mountain Pyros)

-More Malifaux than I know what to do with

Depending on when the crowd-source projects actually ship.

    -Kurganova Shocktroops from Raging Heroes

    -Black Diamonds for Relic Knights

-Amazon Bloodbowl team by Necrom Studios

I also really need to look into more/better model transportation in the future.

  9. Found this in the mail box today.

Mech Rider, Metal Steamborg, Gremlin deck, and a card wishing me luck on assembling the steamborg. Really excited to have a Mech rider since I wanted to pick one up back in 1.5 for Vanessa's Arcanist Sympathizer. That rule may no longer exist, but Mech rider is still my favorite out of the metal rider models. Being an almost single piece model doesn't hurt either.
