  1. I know many of you LOVE our little fire witch. And I really want to. I do.

but I can't seem to figure out how to make her work.

I've played her twice. Once with all three witchlings, once with other stuff trying to summon the witchlings.

both games, I barely caught anything on fire. One of these games was against a Miskai crew with smoke and shadows and a string of lucky (really lucky) flips and I never even put a point of damage on anything. I got one guy burning, and his bro did an interact to put the fire out.

Since that game I have focused more on Lucius and Hoffman, but I really would like to figure Sonnia out since... well.. .she is awesome looking, and I hear such good things.

I've been over the usual places of course, pull my finger, reading battle reports, that kind of thing. but I just don't see some of these wicked combos you folks love to talk about. Also, is Hopkins really that bad? cause I kind of love the sculpt and it would break my heart to hear that he is awful.

Any input from the pros? XD

  2. Just sent a pm. I'll go ahead and list my goodies here, but i'll need to get the group photo later. (since I'm at work... hehe)

I'll update this and add the picture asap.

    I have:

Body of Evidence box - assembled, no primer

Torch and Blade box - assembled, no primer

Bound by Law box - assembled, no primer

Guild Rifleman x3 - assembled, no primer

Metal Gamin x3 - assembled, no primer

M&SU box - assembled, primer, (minus Joss, he's nearly done, and no Ramos as I just wanted the bits for Hoffman. :P)

    Samurai x3 - assembled, primed

    Dawn Serpent - assembled, primed

Monk of the Low River - assembled, primed

Rail Crew  box - assembled, no primer, did not include Mei Feng

The Thunder box - partially assembled, no primer (is a commission that is on my desk now. can I include this? I'm cool with not counting it if need be)

Also, I have the lone marshal, my own The Thunder Box, Yin, Toshiro, Of Metal and Flesh box, and another set of metal gamin all with varying stages of paint on them. I know they do not count toward the score, but I'm putting them on my to-do list before 12/31 anyway. :P

And finally, looking ahead at the release schedule, there will be more plastic on the way in the form of Austringers, Ryle, Pale Rider, Closing Time box, Pease Keeper, and finally, the Doppelganger and  Mr Graves.

yikes.... when I write it all out, it's overwhelming as hell. can I go back to just hiding it in my case? :P

    Good luck everyone!

quite a terrible picture, i apologize for that. The finished pics will be much better, i promise. :P

  3. for the most part, I agree that I focus more on my own strat/scheme and don't really care what I'm up against. doesn't mean stuff doesn't cross my mind. I'm playing guild this year, and when I know I'm going to want to play Hoffman on this particular day, and my opponent says they're running outcasts or archanists... I know it could get pretty messy. Doesn't change anything, but crosses my mind all the same.

The only thing I would change is if my opponent declares Neverborne, I will leave papa loco in the case. really anything with low low WP. against anything with good wp duals they are risky.. but the NB have so many masters that love the WP models that they become a liability.

  4. I am loving Lucius lately. he has been my go-to master next to Hoffman (I didn't play either one in 1.5, so maybe this is just fresh guild air?)

I will echo the point made that Lucius loves Guild Rifleman. I have had decent luck with all 3, though I am thinking of dropping one of them and seeing how that works out. I liked the Lone Marshal as well, though he is a tad pricey depending on how large a game you're in. (I typically play 50ss so I find room)

I think he does lack a little in the heavy hitter department. I haven't tried Graves with him, but from everything I have seen and read (and theorycrafted) Mr. Graves and a Doppleganger are great additions to his crew.

I wouldn't worry too much about being new to the game. He isn't too intense if you don't want him to be. The catch is he loves his strategy, and will be as complex as you want to make him. want him to simply reactivate things and generate extra ap for your crew? done, want him to be a master at board control and cause your opponent to go into fits second guessing every move because you can likely counter everything? I think you could get close (I'm still learning him, but in theory you could do this! :P)

Austringers make almost any guild crew better, but watch out, Lucius has a few things that specifically state you can not use on your austringers. I'd get them anyway, they're really good, but make sure you read the skill and make sure it's useable on them.

I also would second the Hoffman box being a good supplemental addition to Lucius. the Watcher and the Hunter are both better than guild guards. I don't hate the guards, but I struggle to get a lot of use out of them. However, the watcher is amazing at schemes and being fast, and the hunter is surprisingly tough and even pretty durable with a couple good flips on your side.

  5. Hello everyone!

So we did an experiment and tried out early on Saturday instead of Wednesday evenings and the last two weeks have been insane!!!

I'd like to make it official now.

Saturday from 12pm to 3pm at Saltire games, come out and get in a game, a demo, or just hang out. Looks like we might be growing finally, and if we can hit enough people, we'll dive right into a league!!

Come on out and lets keep this momentum going! I LOVE IT!!!

  6. So first off, sorry for the silence. Month's been a little busier than I expected. Not to mention my one gaming day a week has finally started turning into a legit demo day as I am starting to see some new players. Means I get in slightly fewer games (that would count here) but hey, I wont complain. means next time we do this i'll have a whole troupe of folks to face off with!

However, this past weekend being a holiday here in the states meant I had time to get in all three games. Didn't get the huge wins I wanted, but I did get all three in, so here they are! (sorry guys... lol... just..... sorry...)

Game 1: Guild Lucius vs. Resser McMourning. my opponent was newer to the game, but he freaking CRUSHED me. I had a gun line all set up and ready to go... but we had Informant (think it's called) and he ran in there and pulled it away right at the start, then systematically tore my guys apart little by little. I managed to eek out some VP right at the end with assassinate, but that was it... lesson learned here? DO NOT TAKE MURDER PROTOGE AGAINST ANYONE WHO OWNS BETE NOIRE... it just doesn't work out. :P

final score, 8 to 2 in favor of Mcm.

Game 2: Guild Lucius vs. Molly. after learning a little from our last bout my opponent decided to go full on offense this time. Worked in his favor for the majority of the fight. I ended up winning but just barely. Plant evidence is hard with slow guild minions. I will have to rethink my crew next time I try this one out.

Final score, 5 to 4 and a win in my book!

Game 3: Hoffman vs Wong. The mechanical attendant is the best use of Soul Stones against Wong's AoE heavy crew. I lost this one simply because the Hoff-Bubble works only when it can be a bubble, and only ONE bubble. We had guard the stash (a strat I had lost once this month with Hoffman already and should have known better...) and I just could not keep my guys over on the other stash. I held one of them just fine, but over on the other, and out of reach of the Hoff, there was just no support and I lost it before I even really had it. Made up a little ground with Bodyguard and deliver message, but it wasn't enough.

Final Score 8 to 4, and a loss for the guild, and therefore, the world.

However, it was a blast. all three games were hilarious and insane, and I have found that I really really love Lucius. I thought Hoffman would end up being my favorite guild master, but the masked man might just end up seeing the most time on the table for me.

  7. We are going to try something new this week everyone!

I know we usually meet on Wednesdays, but attendances has been... Less that stellar.

SO, this week we are going to change it up. We will be at Saltire games on Saturday, May 9th from 12pm to 3pm. (maybe later depending on how early the next group shows up.)

Also, if you show up and get a demo you get a ticket for our raffle. at the end of May we'll do a drawing and the winner gets a 2.0 box set of their choice. (as long as it is available. sorry, I can't make them release Hamlin early... I don't have THAT kind of power :P)

**Special thanks to Martel for not only coming up with this idea, but also fronting the cost. so all props go to him**

So, if you want, come on down to Saltire Games on Saturday May 9th at 12pm!

If Saturday ends up working better for you guys, speak up. We are toying with the idea of moving to this time slot for a while.

  8. You know what tomorrow is?

    It's Wednesday!

    You know what that means??

    MALIFAUX!

Yeah!! As always, I will be at Saltire games from 6pm to 9pm and doing demos of this wonderful game. Also, if you don't want a demo, but want to get an actual game in, we can pickle that, I mean we can accommodate that! Some come check it out. it's a great place with some really awesome people.

And as usual, if we get enough regular people, I'd love to start a league!

  9. Finally got another game in via vassal. He ran Molly and I went with McCabe. That's right... my third game of the month... guild v ressers. thought it fitting, and I kicked his ass.

35ss game, He had Molly, Phillip, some upgrades, crooligans, and one of the students. (can't remember which) I had McCabe, Luna, 2 hounds, 2 guards, the lone marshal, and a witchling.

Took line in the sand and distract and our strat was reconnoiter.

It was kind of a brutal game. had a lot of fun. Crooligans... wow don't underestimate them. I wrote them off as useless and that aura they can emit is a kick in the ass if you let it go, and they are always on the move (hehe) which can get a little out of hand if you're not careful. Molly seems cool, but I think you need to lose a few games with her. I will admit, I've played McCabe many many times, this was my opponent's first game with Molly. so I had a leg up. but hey, all's fair in Malifaux... right? XD He did snag 3 points for an amazing late game murder protégé on my lone marshal that he announced and I forgot about. :P I totally walked into that too... *facepalm* He had enough stuff to spread out and try to get recon off, but he stayed pretty clumped to keep everyone under that aura. leaving my two mounted guys to run around and get a head start on LitS and reconnoiter. only got distract to stick on one turn, but it slowed down the crooligans a little which probably lead to me winning at recon anyway. so i'll take it!

final score: 8 to 3 in guild's favor. (woot)

  10. How many people usually come to play? I have never played the game (just been painting) but I would really love to be shown how to play.  Also, I'm 37, how old are the group?

Hey! More often than not, Martel and I are the only regulars. My wife comes along every once in a while (she's third shift, so it depends on when she gets up, haha). We have 4 or 5 people now who have been there once or twice, but most of them were caught up in an infinity league so they couldn't make it up there two nights in the same week. Totally understand. And back at the store we used to play at we had probably 15 people who rotated in from week to week.

I'm 28, martel is a little older than I am (Right?) couple of the other guys are older than us too. Most with families. it's pretty laid back to be honest.

Is there a week that you were thinking about stopping by? As the post says, I'm there every Wednesday. Though I'm going to have to skip out on tonight's events. I have been sick all morning, and was coming to this post to let everyone know that I am going to have to cancel the demo tonight. I just want to go home, drink an entire bottle of pepto bismol and sleep. it was all I could do to drag myself into work today.

But of course any other week that you want to meet up, just let me know. I'm happy to show you the game. XD

  11. Hello! Happy Monday morning everyone.

It's a new week, and that means it's almost Wednesday.. and Wednesday means new Malifaux demo night at Saltire Games!

I hope to see some new faces this week. I know a few of you have stopped by to ask about it.. .maybe this week you should try it out? XD

Hopefully you guys can make it, remember: Wednesday 6 to 9 pm. I'm right up front in the game room, you can't miss it!

  12. There are certainly masters that I don't play, but it's because I either don't like their mechanic (Collodi, Kirai, Dreamer) or because I'm not a fan of the aesthetic of the crew (raspy, Pandora, Hamlin)

That being said... I started this game to play cowboys and kill zombies... so as Dirial mentioned, I don't think I would refuse to take any of the guild masters. Though depending on how seriously I felt like taking the game, I may opt to not run Hoffman in something like reconnoiter or I may default to McCabe when my opponent plays someone fast and slippery like Viks or Misaki.

  13. Just checking because it's not clear from this but Misaki herself wasn't teleporting right?  Because it's Minion only.

As to my own exploits I can totally swap my game from yesterday with my one from today right ...?!  Scored a 10-4 victory against a Shen Long TT crew.

Yep, it was the Torakage doing the vanishing. He got lucky a few times on Misaki's disengage and really nailed the whole "hit and run" aspect of the crew. it was a hilarious game.

To answer MasterD, yes I did consider watchers, but not until we had already started. I figured if I could set things on fire, I wouldn't need LoS. then when I saw how difficult it was going to be to keep stuff on fire, I wished I had taken him.

maybe I should just ALWAYS take the watcher. Not like he is expensive or anything. :P

  14. so that game I was hyping on about yesterday.... it didn't go so well.

He managed to stay out of range of me the entire game. We had Reckoning, and my dumb ass took assassinate and cursed object with Sonnia Criid,  while he took Misaki with power rutual and just smoke-and-shadow-teleported around the table using the smoke to keep me out of LoS. :P which Sonnia and Samael can ignore... assuming the target is on fire... which is assuming the LoS wasn't blocked...

    it was a whole thing...

    I lost 0 to 4 or 5.

Sonnia is slow. I'm going to have to work on learning how to get around this.

I think it's time to bring out the blind slashy woman or the family... I need to earn some vp before this is over. lol

  15. admittedly, I have not played against her in 2.0. all my horror stories for her are back in 1.5 when everyone on the planet was running pandy filth lists, right around/after the big dreamer Cuddle. (I think it was)

nowdays I end up squaring off against Outcasts more than anything. although my brother is out of the navy now, so he is getting back in to malifaux... unfortunately he must hang around with you guys or something cause he has his eyes set on Molly. :P

    More Guild for me.

    More on topic:

I'm thinking of trying out Sonnia for the first time this evening. should be exciting!

    Expect a report tomorrow!

EDIT: did they really edit Cuddle with cuddle? what if I wanted to talk about the new Cuddle gun I bought? Cuddle gun just sounds so...... so dirty....

EDIT to the EDIT... they totally did! XD

  16. Not only is it an upside... it's THE upside. ;)

but yeah, totally been there. had a few games like that agains good ole 1.5 Hamlin. Back before people had worked out how to counter him. lol

I think the most infuriating game I've played though is after months and months of rough games against Pandora... I decided to try her out... I lost in such a miserable and horrifying way.... lol

  17. Actually, when I was building the box, I thought the male guild guard was one of the better pieces in the set. :3

I will agree that I wish the female model was wearing the same "uniform" that way it would actually be a uniform since multiple models wore it... ;)

on top of that, her being twisted looks cool and action-y, but I can't help but think of the "Hawkeye Initiative" when seeing them together.

  18. Also, Tonight is Wednesday night!

sure, we have some storms this morning, but I am going to show up anyway! (long as the building is still standing, that is...)

So don't forget, tonight, from 6pm to 9pm come on down to Saltire games for some Malifaux!

Demos, free play, and as always, when we get enough people to show up consistently, I'm ready to start a league!

  19. Hey there!

Our Wednesday games will go until the store owner decides to kick us out! If I'm ever not going to make it, I post it up here and on the Malifaux indy facebook page which I really use just to haunt Saltire's facebook for advertising the Wednesday night games. =]

  20. I had a quick game in last week that I still haven't done a write up for, but we did a 30ss henchman game. Had a good time.

    It was guild v 10T

I figured I would keep it thematic, and went with Sidir with some upgrades, a couple of wastrels a witchling stalker and the pathfinder. My opponent ran Ototo some Torakage and a Samurai. We had Turf war. I took assassinate and deliver a message. I figured I could gun down Ototo pretty easily and I planned on getting a wastrel up in Ototo's face. He took assassinate as well, and didn't reveal the other one and to my knowledge never tried to score any points on it.

In an unusual game for me... it turned into more of a shooting match than a strat and scheme match. I'm a little disappointed in myself. I spent the majority of the game setting up and shooting at him to keep him off the center line... but I only had one guy drop a marker for turf war and that wasn't until turn 4, and by that point, not enough of my crew was alive to get those precious vp. I did nail Ototo with the pathfinder after chasing him around a little bit. (he spent most of the game hiding from me since I announced it.

in the end though, I did win 2 to 0. scoring my points from assassinate

I think my issue is I played the crew exactly like I would in a 50ss game, but without shifting my priorities to accommodate for the missing models. ie at 50ss I would have done all the same things, but also had scheme runners. instead I got bogged down in the old way of just shooting the other guy.

The guy was pretty new, and was using my stuff, so maybe subconsciously I was going easy on him? idk, but chalk up 2 more vp for the guild.

I'll get another game in on Wednesday! (and remember to do my battle report the next morning so I only forget half of it! ;] )

  21. Is it Wednesday again?

Oh yes other Jeremy, it is Wednesday. and that means it's Malifaux night! XD

as usual I will be at Saltire Games from 6 to 9pm tonight for  Malifaux demos! If you haven't played before, or maybe haven't tried out 2.0, you should stop by!

already know the rules and just looking to get a game in with some new opponents? then you're in luck because we know the rules too and are totally willing to play games against people we don't know!

either way, don't be shy, come to Satlire games tonight (or any Wednesday) from 6 to 9pm.
