  1. Perdita used to be the arch-nemesis of Nekima's flock for a while. IIRC Nekima's fortress was for a while not too far Latigo. She is also the reason that Tuco Ortega was turned into a nephilim, and the Ortegas are kind of the go-to anti-nephilm force for the Guild (hence why they were tolerated), so the grudge must be quite high between them.

Speaking of enemies, Lilith and Lynch come to mind as stated above, strangely both within faction. Things has moved on quite a bit though with Nekima and Titania beating off Lilith (for now, stories have hinted that Nekima will die vs the darkness and that would allow Lilith to come back at a point...but anyway that's off topic).

  2. Well they kind of do make use of their blood with "Fly with me" trigger...tots splattering to the floor ...not a catapult per say but...dropping tot bombs is in their book.

Problem with armor is probably their growth rate...by the time they finished hammering the thing, they'll be too large...IIRC barbaros would never mature. Otherwise they probably find people weak if they need it...not saying they are wise at all.

As far as leading with Hayreddin.... He'd probably like to get a duo of Shaman to heal up and lilitus for sneaky support. Then lelus and a young for fighting?

  3. Nekima has always been about Shock and Awe...speed and applying damage where it needs to go to overwhelm the opponent before it can use its full strength. It's almost a full melee keyword, and the traditional "bad guys" of Malifaux. The idea is that you have the speed to apply damage where it needs to go, and even if your models die, they'll wound back their attacker with the black blood ability, so getting out of a melee fight with Nephilim unscathed is usually hard. Nekima and the Mature Nephilims can hit hard if left to do their thing. The Youngs are your go-to shock trooper.

It's certainly not the toughest group, but if things go well, you'll regenerate just enough to carry on to the next prey, and inflict more damage. The grow mechanic is not entirely a strategy imho, it's something you carry in the back of your mind in case the right opportunity arises...yet it will scare your opponent (especially if you get a mature up). But that's a bit of a snowball effect, if you're able to grow bad stuff, it's because the game is going your way already. There are some models who will make this easier.

The utility comes with a few models namely Hayreddin, the Black Blood Shaman and the Lilitu...and to some extent Nekima's pig (totem). You'll need to balance your crew between Smash, Scheme & Support to get a good momentum. But overall the keyword is not subtle, which means the opponent can easily know what to expect, they're in your face. We've found it a good one to teach the game because of that.

Lastly, the versatile hybrids of the Neverborn are kind of part of this keyword...at least in theme, because they've been created by Nekima, so if you like Blood wretches, Angel Eyes, Maurice and Tuco...they can bring more variety to your tactics.

  5. I agree that the mechanism to get Meat for the Young off is kind of a boggle. There's quite a bit of stuff on Nekima's card that is there for situational happenstance.

  6. Lilitus and Lelus are not "proper" names, they are a type of Nephilim that evolves differently, just rarer.

I sometimes wished that Nekima's Hurl Corpse could be triggered from the sword attack on a :ToS-Crow:. This could make it happen more often and put less stress on her AP.

You raise a very valid point when it comes to Nephilims facing incorporal/constructs/mysterious crews. It might not be a hard counter, but it does axe alot of utility from the Nephilims. It makes the tots entirely pointless.

  7. I absolutely agree. Nekima is more of a berserker than a finesse fighter and should play as such. She got a bit more cunning in order to plan how to defeat Lilith, but she shouldn't be subtle in battle, and i believe there is also room for this kind of character in Malifaux...just looking at how some Masters play give me headaches.

  8. So far i've used her as a beater and sometimes scheme runner (when she was outmatched by the opposition or too wounded to stick around). I've not used Hurl Corpse because it never seemed to be the optimal action to take. It's either charge in or get out of reach for me, because staying within 8" or so of the enemy usually leads to bad stuff for Nekima.

The grow mechanic is at least now feasible, compared to previous editions. I've still not really planned for it, but it might just be old habits dying hard.
