  1. Marcus has tons of options available to him, and there are others more suited to explaining his options than I. So I will just touch on Ramos. Most importantly will be the electrical creation to make use of his spell. You only ever need one as it is unique. Next I would look in to picking up a couple large steampunk arachnids and a soulstone miner. I also get alot of use out of my gaurdian and mechanical rider depending on the objective.

Ramos and Marcus both really on a good handle on crew building depending on strategy. Take time to learn all your minions abilities and when to use each respectively. Hope that helps a bit to get you up and running.

  2. I tend to choose between the toolkit or either no totem or the EoP depending on the strategy I find myself playing. If I intend to use Ramos' exceptional abilities in a war of attrition the MTK is the onvious choice. However if I take a crazy notion to run him in a slaughter I almost never take it. Insuch a scenario it becomes a liability. It's easy to kill and your just giving your opponent more targets.

While electrical fire isn't a horrendous one shot doomsday spell it is exceedingly difficult to dodge given Ramos' abnormally high CA stat. With the EoP it is a reliable 4 damage every cast, and gives the opponent a reason to either stay away from his range (gives you some board control) or try and take him down quickly (easier said than done, and gives your minions room to breath)

Basically while the mtk is almost always an auto pick and rightly so, I find lots of players setting Ramos to only playing one way has a detrimental effect on his abilities. He is most certainly a support master with mostly buffs and summoning, but electrical fire is pretty scary to small minions if you make it.

  3. I'll second mistercactus on that perception. I have played nothing but arcanists from the beginning of my Malifaux experience, and my best tool has always been the ability to build for anything and everything. I started out with Rasputina in the beginning, but had picked up Ramos as my most played master within a week. While there are in a fact a few pretty destructive comboes in the faction that is not where their strengths are.

At this point simply by having a ton of experience with the arcanists and being quite familiar with opponents I tend to win most games I play. In fact I have yet to lose a game to the dreamer and all of his crazy comboes. This is due in large part to understanding the opponent and more importantly playing a faction with access to tools for every situation. Starting out with Arcs is a little slow going in the beginning, however once you understand all your tools the power of the faction slowly builds. This is all excluding Colette except for one brawl that I borrowed her to team with Marcus for amusement. I find her crew in general rather lacking in the fun department.

Please excuse any grammar errors etc. Just finished a 10 hour shift and I'm exhausted. If you have any specific questions feel free to message me any time.

  4. Joss is actually extremely good at what he does. The trick to using him properly is keeping him shielded by terrain until he can make his crushing charge. He has massive damage potential and paired weapons. Ive had really good luck with him all around. The only problem with Joss isn't his fault. It's that he is now competing with the mech rider to an extent for a crew slot.

  5. Ive onoy played a few games with Marcus, but in two of the yhree games I ran into a huge problem. I usually use melee combat as a sort of cover to keep from being shot at etc. However with the stitched togethers "gamble your life" it doesn't have the ranged symbol in the ability. Am I correct that it doesn't have to randomize for targetting a model in melee combat? If that is the case what do some of the Marcus players in particular do to ride out the storm?

  6. Punk zombies do not have the use soulstone ability to my knowledge so can not do the healing flip in the first place. That aside you are correct, Collette for example can use a soulstone for a healing flip as her slow to die action. This makes her exceedingly difficult to kill while she still has soulstones. The remedy? Paralyze her first.

  7. Oh well, there goes that plan...

Maybe I should look it backwards...what Archanist models could I get for Ramos that C. Hoffman would use too....

P.S. Do Steampunk Arachnid Swarms come with bases to build them as individual models or a Swarm?

The swarm comes with just the base for the swarm, but its not difficult or exspensive to grab some extra 30s. Also, protip: magnatise the spiders for the bases so u can switch between swarm and single spiders. Saves you some exspenses.
